I won a competition at college in my makeup class… the lecturer gifted me with a bottle of cabotine- I’d never seen it before, but once I started wearing it, it was a firm favourite ever since… and that was over 20 years ago! I’ve had so many compliments and people stopping me to ask what the fragrance is… I’ve recently purchased Cabochard in the hopes it’s as good as the other! The other factor is, it’s so affordable!! It makes an ideal gift…( I always hope Christmas and birthday includes this fragrance) and it lasts a long time on the skin. Fabulous

Cabotine was the scent I got for my wife to start her collection. She instantly fell in love with it. Even after getting a bunch of more "quality" or pricey fragrances, it's still one of her favorites. And she has a few of the flankers (Rose, Rosalie, Floralisme, Eau Vidide, and 1 or 2 more that I can't remember) and they're all great.

Chypre (French for Cyprus) scents originated on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean as early as the 12th century using Labdanum resin and other local araomatics, flowers and herbs, in the 14th century Oakmoss was added.
There is evidence of a perfume factory on Cyprus from about 2000 bc. I love Google ! 😂

@savorsalvagescent2300 I think paper or card testers selectively gobble up some of the ingredients, and at the same time, do not provide the body heat that brings the perfume to life. Someone described Cabochard as the scent that a woman who married for money wore at her husband's funeral... and then she went shopping! It smells expensive, assertive, and perfect for ladies or gents. 😊

Im a vintage nerd and just started searching for perfume, what i love about older scents , beside the insane low price🤪, is that all perfumes were pretty much considered unisex up until 1960, so you got stuff like cabochard and tabu from 1932 thats clearly unisex, tabu although marketed to women is just from reading about it, a true masculine but sweet spicebomb, and cabochard seems the same when you read the notes, plus i love the bottle! Sooo elegant 😍😍😍

great review! I bought the new version of cabochard released in 2019, I wonder if its the same as the one in the old bottle? Its also a steal at just $25 dollars online.

    Hello! Great video :)
I recently bought Halston perfume and to be honest the smokey dry down i don’t really like. I put the perfume on my wrist and i couldn’t sleep all night due to the heavy smoke scent 😢
May I ask if the dry down of Cabochard is the same ?

    • @savorsalvagescent2300
      @savorsalvagescent2300  Рік тому +1

Hi there + thank you for your post. Tastes are so individual, it is hard to know exactly what comes off as smoky to you in Halston but my guess is that it could be the oakmoss, vétiver, or even the marigold (mure bitter than smoky). Both scents are oakmoss-y (Cabochard is basically that + leather), so I doubt Cabochard would be a safe blind buy for you. What are a few or your favorite scents?

@@SH13.9. i am so fascinated by your posts! I was thinking maybe you didn’t like vintage scents but clearly that’s wrong! I wonder if it is the oakmoss in Halston that you don’t like, or the marigold. Have you ever smelled Byredo’s Bal d’Afrique? That has a strong marigold note…

I’ve never tried either; I’m not a big fan of chypres, or aldehydes, and I’ve heard there’s something like the smell of an ashtray in Cabochard...eek! It’s also compared to Bandit, which I tried once (briefly) and didn’t care for. Green scents are also not something I typically like, so I’ve never tried Cabotine either. I want to like green fragrances, but I really struggled with them for some reason.

Hi!! These two are in fact chypres, at least one is very aldehydic, and both are very green to me, so they definitely do not sound like your cup of tea! I do hear that the oakmoss in Cabochard can smell like ash to some... I get beautiful leather! I am cracking up at your “eek!” This is how I feel about most oud and many “clean” scents. Thanks for your post!

@@savorsalvagescent2300 most clean scents are a big no for me too. My feelings on oud can vary widely, sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. It really depends on the profile and what it’s combined with. I don’t think I’d like either of these, but scents that are polarizing, like the reviews lead me to think these are, intrigue me. I really wish I could get on with more scents than I do, but I’m not there yet...maybe one day. I do try to test things on occasion that don’t fit my typical taste, it usually doesn’t go well lol. On the bright side, it helps save some money😆

@@mrspress8057 I totally get it! While I’m happy to like a wide variety of scents I’m actually relieved when I don’t like some... !!! We’re not supposed to love everything snd of course skin chemistry and even scent memory play a part. I am with you... often when I might not love a perfume I still might totally respect what it is!

Yea Cabochard is a MASCULINE scent profile. No two ways about it. I have both Cabochard and Aramis by Aramis. Bernard Chant used Cabochard as the inspiration for Aramis in 1966. And Aramis is one of the most masculine scent profiles ever. Cabochard isn't far off that.
Aldehydes, from my experience with Aldehydic bombs like Pikovaya Dama by Xerjoff, is very astringently clean, like an industrial strength cleaner being pumped into your nostrils. Too abrasive and astringent for me when amped up to 11 O'clock. In smaller, judicious amounts it can provide a clean bright lift to a composition.

Good choise of fragrances to review. Too bad it takes you a full 12 minutes to actually discuss in any way, what the fragrance in question actually smells like. I get the background story and chypre discussion and all, but it gets kinda boring to watch all that rambling without you ever getting to the actual review. When you finally did, the video was good and informative!
