Meaningless I would say and also makes the leagues less competitive. Champions League a competition that should only allow champions, gives the opportunity for a team that finished 5th and won nothing. What’s the point of the league champion?
They should rename the competition to “only some are champions, league”
How can they call this a league when all the clubs don't play each other? The clubs still get drawn from a hat to play other chosen clubs. So you get entered into a pot. Other clubs are placed into your group. No different from current set-up. Winners and runners-up go into the knockout stage. No different from current set-up. Only difference is you play 8 games before the knockout round instead of 6. Sounds like just another exercise in marketing to me. Its purely a panic reaction to threats of a European Super League from big clubs.

Have a look at U23 table on Wikipedia (Premier League 2 as its now called with 26 teams in it) that's similar to how it will look. Huge table with some teams going through, some into play offs, some eliminated
It’s more of a league format, did they say it’s a full league format? It makes things more interesting before the knockout stages more importantly. 5-6 months of facing the same 3 teams is a bit too long winded.
It will be an improvement. No more easy group stage draws where a top team can get an easy group, and you know they'll win all games without effort.

What about the safety of the players, more games equals more injuries. This season alone had the record amount of acl injuries in Europe. This new format is going to be entertaining but at the cost of the health of the players

It’s still less than the super league proposed by a22. They want minimum 14 games whereas UEfA have 8games minimum
It should go back to only having the actual league champions in it. 4th place clubs going straight into the group but others can win their league and have to play a qualifier.

I been asking for a format like this for a few years now and I’m glad they finally did it. I like with this format there will be some sort of excitement because it’s a table where points, goal difference and etc, etc will matters.
Obviously, I know they’re just doing it because it add extra games which means more money.

Under current format plzen had no chance of progressing due to an unlucky draw in the 22/23 season - Bayern, Barcelona and Inter Milan in their group
Under the new format they would have - Bayern, Barca , inter and for the extra teams - arsenal, Copenhagen Belgrade, Celtic and shaktar Donetsk
So they’d have the 4 games vs the big teams and 4 games vs teams at a beatable/similar level and which would help them get points to boost their league coefficient
So you're guranteed at least 2 more gaems before the new year, and a good chance of a further 2 more games before March
As a Liverpool supporter, that could maean 6 more games before March, if you include the Comm Shield and Super Cup....
I don't mind it, has to be better than the 4 team groups which were great in the early years of the Champions League when only top team in each group was guaranteed to go through with two best runners up. This meant only the absolute elite went through. For example in 98/99 the year Man Utd won it, Bayern and United came out of the same group, knocking out Barcelona in 3rd place. Trouble started when they made it top two automatically went through plus the 3rd place dropping into Europa. Meant not enough crucial games, not enough jeopardy. Also, too many clubs in Champions League saw dropping into Europa in 3rd as an achievement rather than a disaster (Celtic and Rangers to name two)
Swiss format is gonna make CL group stage best games.
The team that has wins 5 out of 5 to start let’s say could still drop out if another team that has 4 wins and a draw, they could take over in the last 3 matches.
Or just do the group stages without seeds or rankings

I have 0 interest in this new format just a money grab by UEFA. Playing a team home and away was a fair way to do games. What if you get unlucky and play say 4 shit teams at home then play all the hard teams away? How would that be fair? It also promotes and rewards failure like don't worry about finishing top of the league we can still get Champions League if we finish 5th.
Question:
If the 5 or 6 place teams from each league are qualifying for UCL , how do you qualify for the Europe league then ? Do you have to finish 6 or 7 ?🤔
I like this because it forces teams to go through more teams in order to move on and ultimately win the title. There are definitely downsides but I think that they are outweighed by the benefits.

Why have a 36 team league when you only have 8 matches? Why not have 2 x 18 team leagues and you all play each other once and the top 8 go to r16 and then play one game straight through to quarters... You will get new winners and not just the same old winners and more upsets

Too many games. The players haven’t been consulted. They’re copying the nba’s format Meanwhile the nba’s product is trash because too many pointless regular season games and too many teams get to the playoffs. This creates the exact same problems.
