- In this video you will learn what COVERING the ball means in the golf swing. Adam goes over 2 drills and feels that will help you understand what covering the ball means. This video is great for someone who tends to stand up early in the downswing, throwing the trail hip toward the ball and ultimately leading to chunky shots. Oh my god you have done it again my chipping has been the worst part of my game for 45 years. All ways going left and in compensation always a slicing or thinning shot. After trying this drill the ball is going dead straight and with a feeling I have never experienced before. Your instruction is by far is one of if not the best instruction on the internet. I've played golf for nearly 3 decades (59 years old ..late to the game). I've never had a lesson in my life (other than Golf Channel [Rick Smith ...my favorite. Yes ...long ago]) I am proud of the fact that ...even at 60 years old ..I am still learning and getting "longer" with age. My last round (yesterday), I hit 3 drives the were "longer" than I had ever hit on those particular holes. I am still learning things & the "record length" was the result of incorporating a new move (which I won't get into). More to the point: If you are new (or ..not so new), or getting a "newby" into the game ..I recommend getting a few lessons from a bonafide teaching pro. You want to get started with sound fundamentals! (And a "refresher course" along the way). If you are new to the game ..PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THESE TEACHING PROS TIPS/DRILLS. They can/will advance your game much faster than just .."winging it".

what a wonderful drill, excited to try it
Have been trying the alignment stick drill for short pitches now for a few days. Great drill but I occasionally shank one which is new for me. Must be from moving the hips forward (not lower) which throws the club out and hosel hits the ball. Gotta keep that right hip back I guess. GOTTA SAY, when you do this drill right the contact is amazing. Strange feel but when you do it correctly you get the COVERING thing completely. Thanks!

OMG I just learned another swing flaw that need to fix, by not keeping my back hip level and allowing it to drop down. Question, will the range basket between the legs work like the alignment stick drill? Or do they deal with two different swing flaws.
Did you say that the right hip does not move closer to the ball on the downswing?? If so, then it moves only laterally towards the target?
Do you have any similar drills for translating this to the full swing?

I have been having trouble getting my hands low and through the ball. Today when I was hitting my wedge, I put my weight evenly on my feet and that corrected the issue. Now I know that I was pushing my hips too far forward on the downswing. I started crushing my shots straight and so high.TY !!!

I sometimes shank my pitch and chip shots and never understand why. Your 45 degree alignment stick in the ground drill might help. Preventing my right hip from moving forward (towards the ball) in the downswing may be the answer. Thanks for posting this information. I look forward giving it a try.
