for foreigners who come to Indonesia but first come to Malaysia, I just want to let you know that the rendang cendol wayang batik and others are original from Indonesia.
You will find a lot of things that come from Indonesia but many are found in Malaysia

Hi Ken. FYI, Indonesian people love to laugh. A lot. Especially if they are embarrassed or shy. It can make a person feel uncomfortable when there is a language barrier, but please don't take it personally. It's just part of the culture.

3:48 ᮘᮔ᮪ᮓᮥᮀ is how “Bandung” is written in the local Sundanese script. Sundanese is the language spoken in the provinces of Banten and West Java, of which Bandung is the capital of. You will see the Sundanese script on street names and several government buildings.
And Sundanese is NOT a dialect of Indonesian, they are two separate languages. “Thank you” is “terima kasih” in Indonesian and “hatur nuhun” in Indonesian, very different. Sundanese has its own dialects, with various levels of intelligibility.

Those batik shirts are so beautiful, I want to buy every one of them!
In the East, black clothes are worn when attending funerals. Wearing black during happy events is taboo. I didn’t expect it to be normal in Malaysia!
The fruit you eat is called Wax-apple. You have to cut off the top and bottom before eating it, but the vendor didn't cut it for you!
Thank you for sharing such an interesting shopping trip. I didn’t expect you to donate all the items in the end. You are awesome! 👍🥰🙏

That carpet at 24.35 is only a regular carpet that usually you put near bathroom or near front door, not for praying purpose. I think the singing man confused because you gave him too much money (usually we give them Rp. 1000-2000) 😅

kaca is window or glass (transparent), while mirror is cermin ken, that's why the clark are confused.
Kesed or keset is like welcome matt, but indoor. most Indonsian doesn't have a wet and dry toilet, it just use wet. to prevent water getting to other room, they use kesed to dry up your feet.
on 30:04 i saw snack wrapped by corn leaf, its called wajit, a Bandung-Ciamis-Tasikmalaya-Garut delicacy. its sticky rice and palm sugar. If you have more time to visit those place, i recommend you to try it.

Fyi ken, sunda is a standalone language (not a dialect) from West Java. In sunda, there are many dialects (sunda priyangan, sunda bogor, etc). Funfact, many said sundanese sound similar to korean lol. But in terms of script, words, etc totally different from korea language.
Let me tell u a quick cheat in sunda, say "punten" whenever you want to enter a shop and say "mangga" when u wanna leave. I'm sure they will be surprised lol. Don't worry, it's just an excuse word to be more polite

  • @victorhino26
    @victorhino26 10 місяців тому +3

Sundanese is a language of its own,not a dialect. since you already learned "hatur nuhun"= thank you and "sami-sami" = you're welcome.
here's a some other helpful sentences you can use if you plan to spend more time in Bandung and West Java in general: "punten,Sabaraha pangaosna?"= excuse me, how much is the price?.
    sarebu=1000
    dua rebu=2000
tilu rebu = 3000. opat for four, lima for five, genep for six, tujuh for seven, dalapan for eight, salapan for nine. belas for the teen as in lima belas=fifteen. you already knew puluh and ratus,we use that too in sundanese.
"Kumaha damang?" = how are you?. the common answer to that are either alhamdulilah, sae or damang. the most common greeting and polite enough to be use to stranger, regardless of age.
"nuju ngadamel naon?" = what are you making?/what are you cooking?.
    and last but not least
"raos"= taste good or enak. 😆

3:59 The language written below Bandung is Sundanese script, known as " Aksara Sunda". This script is used to write Sundanese, which is the regional language of tribe Bandung or West Java province.
16:49 Mie Ayam is an Indonesian noodle dish consisting of noodles, chicken, bakso meatballs, and the vegetable is mustard greens local known as Sawi, typically flavored with MSG, salt, pepper, chicken oil, and sweet soy sauce.
31:35 Dodol Garut is a traditional Indonesian sweet confection made from coconut milk, palm sugar, and rice flour, often flavored with various fruits or original flavors.
39:28 40:36 Rujak Buah is an Indonesian fruit salad consisting of papaya, ambarella, water apple, watermelon, pineapple, mango, often with added jicama, and is served with a sauce made mix from peanuts, tamarind, palm sugar, and chili.

Hi Ken, Keset is a door mattress. The mattress for praying is called Sajadah.
If you want to buy a male praying kit, maybe you can try to buy Baju Koko (Indonesian Muslim shirt) copied from both Chinese and arab dressing. Koko means brother in one of Chinese Hokkien. Then also buy a Sarong (which looks like a long skirt) and a Peci (it is a Muslim-typ cap) There are two types of Peci, one which looks like the Jewish kippah; another one, our Black Peci, which is copied from the red Turkish Fez.
President Sukarno used Black Peci as one of the National Identity caps. You can buy praying kits in Malls or Arab town shops. In every city, there are Chinese towns and Arab towns. Both communities immigrated a long time ago and now their descendants become Indonesian.

3:47 its "aksara sunda" its an old sundanese (west java ethnic) script.
sadly its rarely use anymore and doesnt included in school curriculum.
even the white shirt guy think it was roman/greek script because he doesnt know.
the big 3 letter is BA, NA and DA, and with small modifier (the small thing around it) it can be read as "BANDUNG".
14:16 the name of that snack is "sale"

14:11 that banana snack is called pisang sale. The banan is sliced thinly, put in a batter then deep fried. It's supposed to be crispy, it was soft probably because the lady stored it in loose plastic bag. Hopefully the ones in the bag you purchased is crispy.
24:52 It's not praying mat nor carpet, it's a door mat or bathroom mat, to wipe our feet if they are dirty or wet :)

I would say you got a lot of Point of Interest in Bandung just for two days, but that doormat guy gave you a quite high price for a door mat. And that sweet candy is called Dodol, originally from Garut City. You should try brand "Picnic" for more varied flavours
