Canoe Makeover 3rd & FINAL UPDATE: Northstar Canoes l Northwind Solo l Hemlock Canoe Works Peregrine

Back in 2021 I called an outfitter in the Adirondacks of New York wondering if they had any used Northstar "Northwind Solos". They said no but they had one brand new one in starlite layup with aluminum trim on order if I was interested. So I put a deposit on it.
Two years later I couldn't get use to the aluminum trim, I'm just not a fan. So I took my boat to Dave Curtis at Hemlock Canoe Works in the western Finger Lakes of New York for a makeover.
Here she is my 2021 Northstar Northwind Solo complete makeover. I had slotted gunnels installed along with wood thwarts and carry handles and walnut decks. And lastly a brand new seat as I've mentioned in the video I did not find the Northstar seat all that comfortable.
I'm extremely happy with how this turned out. Originally the boat as delivered with aluminum trim weighed in at 27#, in its current form it weighs in at 32#. Again I could not be happier!
Fast Forward to March 2023 and I have traded my Northwind Solo for a Hemlock Canoe Works Peregrine. Back in 2020 I purchased a red Hemlock Canoe Works Peregrine and absolutely loved the boat. In April 2023 I picked up a brand new Hemlock Canoe Works Eaglet and I sold my Peregrine "Thinking I wouldn't need it", well I have been missing that boat ever since. Now I have both the Peregrine and Eaglet in my quiver. And now there is a beautiful Northstar Northwind Solo for sale on Hemlock's used/demo page. So you all have now experienced my chaotic brain and I appreciate it.🤣😂

Interesting. What drew you to the Peregrine over the NW Solo?

It's just a little narrower and quicker in my opinion and I'm just a big fan of Hemlock canoes. I'v now have it set up for sit and switch paddling which I enjoy.
