As a business owner, importing goods from Europe could now become prohibitively expensive. 20% on top of each order could put me out of business. What a disaster.
You are missing the basic function of Tariffs and that is as a bargaining chip. That is where they are most effective. Also on China because they are currency manipulators so the tariffs work against them.
@@tomslick986 don’t tell this business owner he doesn’t understand tariffs. Plus, Trump plans to implement tariffs for European imports, so it’s not just aimed at the Chinese. Ultimately, the cost will be passed onto U.S. consumers, (who are worried about inflation which is currently 2.6%, just wait!).
@@guitarlessonsnow3431 you seem to have a lose, vague understanding of tariffs, maybe. But you do not understand the use of them as a weapon in trade bargaining. The countries he is proposing already have tariffs on our products and exports. You would have us roll over, not negotiate and just take the higher prices. I hope you don’t run your business like that, if you do it won’t last long.
Draconian use of tariffs such as Trump is proposing would take us back to something akin to 19th century UK. Look up “corn laws”. Also, read about the Scottish economist James Wilson.
