Another great video Christian! My Beccariophoenix alfredii was purchased as a three gallon about 2-3 feet in height March 2016. I planted in the ground April 2016. January 2018, the palm experienced 26 degrees followed by 27 degrees the next morning in Atlantic Beach, Florida (Jacksonville). Over the next month it showed 10% freeze burn on the tips of the leaflets, then Spear pull. It sat for about two months, then in May, a new spear pushed out and the palm started growing really fast. It grew 1 foot over the Summer! The palm responds well to Liquid Chelated Palm Nutritional!

I'm in Jacksonville and wondered if we could possibly grow these here.

This is becoming more popular. Tampa International recently planted a row of them. My only issues with them are they’re slow to trunk and much bigger than coconuts so they’re not that similar when mature.

Great video...thanks for featuring Beccariophoenix alfredii...this has been one of my favorite palms for years! I've had several of them planted around my garden for over 10 years here in Southern California (Los Angeles suburbs) and they're doing very well.

Thanks for the info on this Palm. Definitely one to consider for a protected micro zone in some of the colder zones!

I bet in about 20 years or so these will be really common in places like North Florida and California.

9A in Western/dry/Cali/AZ U.S. 9B in eastern/Humid U.S. That has been the consensus. And another tidbit: No B.alfredii has ever produced seed outside of habitat. I believe it was 2004/06 when it's seed was first sent out abroad (outside of habitat). The book on alfredii's is still being written.... (It may be a Jurassic palm.)

I have one that is growing well in Palm Springs, CA. It is about two feet tall but 3 to 3.5 feet wide. Is that normal? The one in this video looks like it is growing tall and up where as mine seems to be getting wider. It's a nice looking palm though.

I have 4 of them in my suburban Orlando Florida home. They are so easily mistaken as coconut palms.

It can be very difficult to tell them apart especially when younger.

Does this palm actually produce coconut fruits? I see yours doesn't have any right now, but I'm wondering. I live in zone 8a (which, I know, is still too cold for this palm), so I'm curious how far south I'd have to go to be able to grow my own coconut fruits. I'd be willing to try growing it in a greenhouse, but I worry the height would be too much to handle without building a literal tower of glass.

What is the approximate size? Thinking of putting one of these in my yard. I have about a 20’ diameter space. Would this grow about the same size of a p canariensis?
