Whilst I wanted to see all the headliners, BMTH were the one I was least excited about. It ended up being one of my favourite live shows ever, just phenomenal. The stage production, vocals and energy were all so good. It was my first festival since 2011 and loved every minute of it. Enjoyed your content leading up to it too 😊
Thanks! So pleased to hear that. And yeah, as I fan of BMTH and having seen them live a good few times I expected them to be very good but it exceeded even my high expectations. Really seriously impressive.
So glad you did this video. I really glad you had a great time. Lorna shore amd polaris was the 2 bands I wanted to know the most . But loved your thoughts on everyone
@@SteveOGRock I would love to see you do a reaction to Austin archerys drum playthroughs for meinl cymbals . To watch him play lorna shore songs that close is jaw dropping
Fun fact Jinjer lives and dies by the strength of their live shows and counts their lead sound guy as the fifth member of the band for purposes of money and business decisions, and you see him in a lot of their bts stuff.
@@SteveOGRock the live show is amazing. I was also suprised by bmth as a full on self confessed hater they impressed me with the production and first half of the set very cool.... Then they started doing the more popy songs and lost me still enjoy the set suprisingly but still not a fan xD
Loved the open mind here. That’s the beauty of festivals, it urges us to follow our curiosities as we can easily walk away if we’re not feeling it. Really helps broaden musical horizons.
This festival recap was so great! I feel I got enough information about the experience. I also enjoyed how you included some video footage of a couple acts. Your perspective is so interesting. It’s funny how being a parent, or simply growing older, changes our outlook on the whole festival experience. We tend to consider details that we might not have cared about as much in the past (ex., staying healthy and rested, noticing logistical issues, keeping track of the kids’ sleeping schedules,…). This made me smile. 😊 I’m glad you had a great time overall!
Cheers! Yeah my festival experience has changed massively over the years. I used to just tear around the place and get very drunk. I'm more interested now in experiences I can get loose at but ultimately remember well and make sure when I return to my life afterwards I'm not a total wreck lol.
I used to be a huge fan of Metallica. Their early thrash up until the black album. Loved that. Bjt theyev become very stale after that. everyhing just sounds the same. Like you said. They havn't progressed at all since then. Its like they hit a high with that bkack album and thought theyd stick with that. But MEH!
Completely agree, I absolutely adored them up to and including the Black Album, it all went down hill from there onwards! I can’t even watch them in interviews now, Lars with his stupid tooth pick and James spouting off with his ‘therapy language’ etc......argh! 🙄
@@paulriddle7818 who you calling crazy, fanboy! A lot of us have been listening to Metallica for the past 40 years and it’s blindingly obvious they lost their way after the Black Album. Early Metallica was absolutely superb, they are now a bunch of ‘sad has-beens’ and metal has moved on without them. 72 Seasons is bland, bloated and has nothing new to say. It’s another safe album with no fresh ideas. They have been living off their legacy for years now, it’s time for them to retire, kick back and enjoy their money. Leave metal to those with more hunger, more creativity and more aggression. RIP Metallica!
Putting bring me the horizon on my must-see-live list! Was going to see sleep token this year at tons of rock in Norway, but they unfortunately cancelled, so they'll also remain on my list for now. I'm glad you got to experience Lorna Shore live 😎😎
Simple Plan was my favourite moment of the whole festival, I cried watching it because of the pure nostalgia! It was also pretty much the only performance I was close enough to the stage watch the band itself rather than the screen! (Also they came and did a secret set at the Doghouse at midnight too which was fantastic! BMTH were incredible but I couldn't get anywhere near because of how big the crowd was so watched it mostly through the screen sadly! Glad you had a good time!
Yeah Simple Plan absolutely smashed it. They seemed like they were having a great time too. The drummer crowd-surfing while the vocalist drummed was a fun moment. I’d heard about the acoustic set but I was too exhausted to go 😅 My buddy went and said it was great and they did a few covers?
Lol…yes, Steve, that’s Wolfgang Van Halen - 2nd generation rock royalty…😂. His album is absolutely killer and he should have had a much higher timeslot in my humble opinion 🤷🏻♂️🔥. Glad you had a great time. Just a shame Band-Maid wasn’t at this festival 😂 Take Care and Rock On 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼😀✌🏼
Parkway Drive had set of the entrie festival. I was desperate to see Electric Callboy but im disabled and wasnt comfortable navigating through the huge crowd they'd pulled in. Absolutely gutted. As someone born and raised on Metallica, I've seen them a few times before and they just didnt seem as good as normal. Shocked to say that I thought Bring Me The Horizon put on the best show of all the headliners inc 2nd stage headliners this year.
Very happy to hear Puscifer receiving the accolades they deserve. Amazing band who quite literally take you on a journey with their music. Brilliant stuff!
I agree. Although i didn't go to download. BMTH are the BEST concert ive ever seen live. They really bring it. Id heard nothing but negativity about them being live,so was nervous. So they must have really improved? Hope they release that butterfly/ nihilist blues as a single. Its so good.
Oli’s cleans used to be really poor. Like, really poor. For years. But over the past 4 years or so I’ve noticed a major improvement in that and the overall stage show production. Makes a huge difference, and is a great indication that he’s not just a creative weirdo, he cares about the craft and is striving to be the best he can. I think Jordan Fish joining on keys was also a huge shift in the quality of the band’s focus.
If I hadn’t seen them before I would have braved the immense crowd to catch some glimpse of them, but I have in fact seen them live before Download. Caught them at the Electric Ballroom in Camden a year ago. They were great fun, performed well, enjoyable show for sure. 🤘🏻
I didn't go, but my 2 daughters went for their first Download experience. Despite the heat, sunburn, and slightly crap organisation - they were in the cheap camping area - they loved it. BMTH, Nova Twins, Jinjer, Bloodywood, Brutus, and surprisingly Placebo seem to have been their faves. I first saw Metallica at Donington when it was Monsters of Rock back in 1987. Back then, they were young and exciting.
Glad they enjoyed it. Wish I'd seen metallica bk in their thrash days. Find them way too safe ATM. But BMTH are the best live.
