Hi Beth, I'm a new subscriber following your "Vestibular Rehab Exercises" series. My question is: If I don't really have vestibular dysfunction, according to the PT that I saw recently, but she said I do have symptoms of PPPD (most likely due to my binocular vision issue - some eye misalignment), will these exercises still helpful to alleviate some unsteadiness that I experience when moving, or in big malls? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi J, the maneuvers for BPPV will not likely help you. I suggest starting with my PPPD video instead: ua-cam.com/video/Yyvt8EMlHxs/v-deo.html. The other videos in the vestibular rehab series may also be helpful, but not the videos focused on BPPV. Thank you for subscribing to my channel!

Does your nervous system or vestibular system sometimes trick you into thinking you're about to have vertigo? I havent had an actual episode for 6 months but occasionally while stretching my brain will get foggy snd the room will feel sort of like it does right before it starts spinning (like dissociation) but it doesnt spin. It just sparks anxiety out of nowhere. How long until my nervous system stops being on high alert and deals with mild dizziness as simply mild dizziness and not somethinf to panic about?

Yes, the nervous system can remain sensitized to movement long after the vertigo stops. Since it has been six months since your last episode, you would likely benefit from exercises to desensitize your system and to help you perform activities such as stretching without sparking those symptoms. Try my vestibular rehabilitation series, starting with the beginner level program. Here is the link to the beginner video: ua-cam.com/video/drRwAdjZ644/v-deo.html

My physiotherapist tested me for bbpv since I was feeling dizzy looking down, bending down, etc. when he tested me he saw some bbpv on my left side and suggested to come back 2 days later as he didn’t have time to correct it. 2 days later, the eply maneuver was done on both sides and there was zero dizziness. But since then I have been feeling awful. Dizzy, swaying, anxious with no help from my pt. My neck is constantly stiff and painful. Why does this happen after the maneuver is done when there is no dizziness?

There could be a number of reasons for this... Sometimes the Epley maneuver produces no vertigo if the crystals have temporarily moved but return to the canal after the maneuver. Another possibility is that the crystals are temporary stuck when the maneuver is conducted and then move again afterward. It is key to continue testing and possibly try different repositioning maneuvers based on what is seen during testing. Also neck pain and stiffness suggests the possibility of cervicogenic dizziness, which does not respond to the Epley maneuver and requires different treatment. I hope that you have more appointments scheduled with the PT for further evaluation and treatment.
