    Beautiful . Wrangles are unique , fun , convertible from minimal removal of top / doors to full-on-body & suspention work . Just like Lego . Got my first CJ when I was 16 , sold it went through many other vehicles but ever few years going back to a Wrangler . Still keep my last YJ and never gon'na sell it but hasn't started for over 10 years . Been getting ready for it as a project to get it rolling again . Love these Jeeps .

    I'm a newcomer when it comes to the Jeeps and I really like the 95 TJ I'm looking to buy one for a project when I retire next year

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150  6 років тому +1

      Daniel Moreno 95 was the last year for the YJ. Jeep didn’t start the TJ’s until 1997. Curiously no Jeep Wranglers were made in 1996!! Personally, I think the late YJ’s were a nice sweet spot for Jeep’s. I looked a long time for mine. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please consider subscribing if you don’t already!

    You are a luck dog that is a great find! Jump on that frame first . I like the cup brush on an angle grinder ; rust converter and epoxy primer and POR-15. It will be good for years then. You will take better care of it than he did I can tell from the passion in your voice. Really nice Jeep and you got it in time to save it ; Good Roads !

    Nice looking Jeep, looks like you got a great deal. Funny thing about the gas filler, a number of years age someone came up with some "wacky" fume recovery system attached to gas pumps. I had the hardest time putting gas into my Wrangler. Very annoying, thanks goodness they discontinued using them.

    I had a ‘91 “Wrongler” myself (YJ, square headlights), bought with 60K in 2001 for $4500, sold in 2003 with 90k miles for $4000, I wish I would have kept it. I have a 2016 JKU 75th Anniversary now, which is a luxury vehicle compared to that, but that 4.0L, no substitute. Would have been a great project for my son.

    bought a 91 YJ for 2700. Its spray painted to look like an army jeep, with no carpet and its rhino lined. The only rust on it is a little bit of spots under the windshield and on the leaf springs with only surface rust on the frame. I plan to to restore the entire vehicle. I already have the whole thing planned out.

      Yeah, that really doesn't work, for me. I still can't get the pump in far enough, to flow properly. I can still get the tank full, but I have to hold the pump on 'half trigger' if that makes sense. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      i Bee Amazin Nope, makes no difference, in filling up. What you are saying is true, but it didn’t help, at all. '95 is the only YJ that had a galvanized body. They started with '95 and kept going so all of the TJs were galvanized too. They never galvanized the frames of any year to my knowledge.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150  4 роки тому +1

      TMV Garage I am FAR from a Jeep expert! I know that the bodies were galvanized in 1995, that’s why it is the most desirable YJ. As far as the frames, I was always told that they got extra galv. or zinc dipped etc, again starting in 1995. The only way my frame survived was that it has been scraped, restored and painted at least twice, since new! Thanks for watching and commenting! Please consider a sub.

  • @captainfragger6295
    @captainfragger6295 6 років тому +2

    I own a 95. You can't hardly get the handle in straight up and down anyway when getting gas. You have to turn it to the side. And on mine your damn lucky to get it within an eighth of being full. Unless you sit there and let it trickle in. I don't know if that's common with the other groups of that year but with mine it sure is.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150  6 років тому +1

      It's a giant pain in the ass!! I have to hold the gas 'trigger' on about 1/4 pull, trickling fuel in. You certainly can't lock the trigger on, at all. I've discovered that swinging out my spare tire carrier, using it to hold the license plate down, gives fueling a bit of relief. Terrible design. That's why they moved it to the drivers side on the TJ's.

    • @captainfragger6295
      @captainfragger6295 6 років тому

      Metalcop yeah if you squeeze the trigger all the way and lock it you're going to have some blowback. It'll shoot fuel past the license plate and on your leg or foot. I very rarely gets the entire tank full. I just don't want to fool with it. I can imagine taking it on a road trip where you're driving a few hundred miles and you have to keep stopping because you can't fill it up. Other than that it's a pretty good little Jeep. I guess the 2.5 liter engines don't have air conditioning. You can get it but it cost a lot of money to have it put in. Usually the 4.0 can handle the air conditioning better

  • @dunlapmichaell
    @dunlapmichaell 6 років тому +22

    What we do in the 'country' is don't carry anything we don't care if it is stolen.....and also we purposely don't lock anything because that just means more damage WHEN it's broke into.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150  6 років тому +1

      Sound advice, that I adhere to as well. My 'city' vs/ 'country' comments were just hyperbole. I live in what I consider to be a very rural area, as well. Though large cities aren't too far, lol!! I always tell people: don't leave anything of value in your cars! IF you have to, then make sure it is hidden, out of sight, and only then, do you lock it up. I've found that thieves usually won't risk the noise and attention of breaking a window, unless they can see their 'payday'. I.E. laptop, video camera, cash, prescription drugs etc. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please consider subscribing, if you don't already!!

    • @FoamSquatch
      @FoamSquatch 5 років тому

      Hell thats what we do in the city. Locked doors hiding good things, mean broken windows and cut tops. Unlocked doors with access to nothing means at most a dead battery from the dome light being on all night.

      I did not, nor would I ever drive this Jeep any long distance. Probably 100 miles, max. With the high center of gravity from the lift and the tires it's really not that safe, in my opinion. Plus I wouldn't trust its reliability.

    Had a 91yj. Worst pos I ever owned. Had to replace the 4 banger at 81k. Along with about every part on it at least once. Even the seat belts failed. Put 6 slave cylinders on the clutch. Window leaked. Replaced the windshield twice. 3 starters. U joints twice. And on and on. Put 70k on it and gave it away. Was happy to get rid of it!!! Good Luck

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150  7 років тому

      Sorry you had such bad luck! The 95's are the best of the YJ's and the 4.0 liter straight 6 is way better than the 4 banger! Practically indestructible. As for reliability? It's still a Chrysler product, so that's what you get. If you want a capable 4x4 a Jeep is still your best option.

      ScoobyDigits I paid $1,900 for mine . without even looking at it because my truck had broke down and I needed a vehicle quick I told the guy if he could drive it to where I'm at I would give him the cash he did and I did. I have driven it for 5 months and it's lost less than a quart of oil during that time. Of course the first thing I did was change the oil plugs wires rotor and cap. It's a running demon. A great work truck. There's rust on the frame but I treated it with that paint that turns rust back into metal. I was going to coat it with bedliner. But I bought myself a new Jeep because this one did not have air conditioning and I was tired of roasting. They can cost a lot of money if they have not been taken care of. I have a 97 that I had to almost completely rebuild underneath. But it's a really nice jeep now. Just 1500 miles away at my house. I have a 63 Willis that was a money pit. It was my first real Jeep. And if you're willing to put the money into it you can do just about anything with anything. I guarantee you it's worth more money now than what I put into it . but not by much.

      I picked up a 95 YJ that's almost mint for 6K. I'm in the process of getting it to suit me and my style of driving. It had too many lights and I removed over half of them. Took out a console that was too wide and could hardly move the seat because it rubbed the side of it. I never saw much use for a console in a jeep. It was towed behind a motorhome for most of its life and never driven. As near as I can tell it's never seen a gravel road or been in the rain. It was someone's garage queen and show vehicle.

      Totally agree. Even with the 6, I would say that this Jeep is under powered!! It is a big, heavy 'truck' for all intents and purposes and even with the advertised (yeah right!) 180 hp, these things could barely get out of their own way. That is why I did as many performance upgrades, as humanly possible on my Jeep. Check out the other vids! I do everthing to this YJ... Thanks for watching and commenting. I would agree with you, that the clear back up lens, *should* be on the bottom of the taillight. However, you can clearly see that the plastic lens is marked 'TOP' so the taillight lens is mounted correctly, in this case. Either way, the taillight is a rectangle, flipping it over wouldn't gain any extra space for gas nozzle etc. Thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate the support. Pause at 3:02 in your video, look where your leaf spring bolts to the frame. You can see that the “wrap” on the spring has broken and moved forward off the bushing, the only thing that is holding it together is the weight of the jeep on it. Also on the front, you have what’s called a shackle reversal kit. Supposed to help with the ride by changing the suspension geometry, but the shackle is supposed to cycle back and forth as the suspension compresses. But the shackle laying on the frame like that isn’t doing anything. Looks like a solid jeep! Just pointing it out because it could be potentially dangerous. My leafs where broken too and I didn’t know until I lifted it.

    • @jeffryclark7819
      @jeffryclark7819 7 років тому

      Nah, dude, they are all like that. The inboard side of all 4 springs. The top leaf wraps around and is properly bolted to the shackle. What you're seeing is the 2nd shackle down that has a little 'up bend' to it. All good, I assure you. Thanks again.

    • @stfitz19

      Paul Ss That is your opinion and it’s clearly an uninformed one. There is zero rust, like I stated. In this vid, there are large slabs of paint and bedliner, flaking off the frame. That’s it. Check out my other vids, where I scrape and repaint the frame, it’s mint. As far as the body off restoration? It absolutely had one, but it was probably in the early 2000’s. I bought my Jeep from the 3rd owner, who bought it off the original owner, his uncle. Backed up by Carfax records. Capturing the moisture underneath making it worse. But if you think there's not much rust that is your opinion but for you to say there's hardly any rust when you could see it from 10 feet away just doesn't seem like a very good argument. It's just my opinion. But good luck with your rust free jeep lol that Rhino Lining was just sprayed on there underneath. Probably they didn't sand or treat the metal surface below it they just sprayed it over so all the moisture underneath is causing rust and that's why it's peeling. And who wouldn't go through all of that if they did a so-called frame-off restoration? They probably didn't sand or treat the inside either so there's probably rust growing underneath that Rhino liner all over the place inside.
