Eating a $19 Steak Deal with Two Sides and a Salad at F. Ottomanelli. An Amazing NYC Steak Special
Вставка

- I eat and review the steak lunch special at F. Ottomanelli Burgers and Belgian Fries in Woodside, Queens of New York City. The business is also a butcher. For about $19, you get bread and butter, a salad, two sides of your choice, and an 8 oz. flat iron steak. The establishment also sells larger steaks like a porterhouse and tomahawk for affordable prices in comparison to Manhattan.

About Me: I live in NYC and I’m about food, travel and work.
There's something about eating with a table full of plates to yourself that's pleasantly intimidating!
You might try an authentic Korean restaurant. Talk about side dishes. Alone in LA Korea Town, I must have had 10 or 12 little side dishes. What fun!
Absolutely! It's nice having a lot of options!
Incredible lunch deal and unique establishment!
Definitely!
Great review as always. I was thinking the same thing about the side. It looked more like Cream with Spinach as opposed to Creamed Spinach LOL. I love how you go to and appreciate both high end Michelin starred restaurants as well as bargain bites/mom & pop places. I'm the same way. My last trip to NYC, I went to Per Se (btw, can't wait for your review) and totally splurged and had the sommelier pair reserve wines with each course one night, then the next night had 2 slices with a diet Coke from Joe's for dinner followed by some banana pudding from Magnolia's for dessert, and I loved both! Then to continue my financial recovery from Per Se, went to Los Tacos No.1 the next night! All great!
Thank you! Indeed! Great food is not just found at the fanciest fine dining establishments. It's good to have variety!
Great review, James. Why would anyone go to MacDonald's (not cheap anymore) for lunch when you can go to F. Ottomanelli's. Quality food, nice selection, awesome price and you didn't have to stand in a line up.
Thank you! Haha! I know what you mean.
Woodside is a hidden gem. Little Manila get you some nice Filipino food!
Absolutely! There's a lot of great food in Queens!
It looked like a lovely neighborhood.
Ok, so this is only 15 minutes from me, and I've never heard of it! That is truly a fantastic deal, and now that we're getting into grilling season, you can have lunch, and shop for dinner at 1 spot! (granted, that's 2 steaks in 1 day😂)
Haha! That's true! That sounds like the ideal day to me.
That was a SUPER deal! I first heard of F.Ottomanelli's for their French fries. Nice, casual, neighborhood spot with a lot of options! Yes, I would go back to try rib steak! At F. Ottomanelli's you're not paying for the high rent locations in the city!
That's a good point. Their rent is probably much less than a Manhattan spot.
Looking forward to Per Se!
I appreciate it! I'm looking forward to sharing it!
Terrific James! Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
As a Queens resident its great to see you exploring dining in our borough. That did look like a really great deal but definitely the creamed spinach needed work. The steak looked very nice for the price.
Yeah, I feel that I should visit more restaurants in Queens, because there are so many amazing spots!
Completely agree. It's better to have steak under cooked as opposed to over cooked. I used to order steak medium but started asking for medium rare, just in case, if it was over cooked. Now, I like medium rare... and slowly transitioning to rare. As always, James, an outstanding video.
So far my favorite video of yours is when dined at Le Bernardin. I've at least watched it 4 times. My girlfriend is going to New York in 6 months. I can't afford it for two but I'm contemplating of just getting her a gift card for her.
Thank you so much! A gift card there would be great! One thing that I didn't mention in my Le Bernardin video was that they have a much more affordable lunch menu that is about a third of the price of the dinner tasting menu. That could be an option.
Looked amazing thank you
Thanks for watching! It was a nice lunch!
I watch Your channel every morning it always makes me hungry especially for some steak
Thank you so much! That makes me happy to hear!
Amazing James…Loved that you did this review. Thanks for showing that we all can still get a good steak at a great price.
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Your reviews are funny and entertaining 😂❤
Thank you!
Thank you James for another great review! I would be very satisfied also with the value and quality of that lunch! I absolutely dig these type of reviews, fun, tasty and great value! Cheers!
Thank you! It's really refreshing to go to places like that where the value is definitely there, but they also serve good food!
Great review & deal!!
Thank you!
Wow great video excellent roundup of best steak values.
Thank you!
Lol, after walking 40 blocks, I'd say you earned that lunch! You could have made a baby steak sandwich by just pouring a bit of that dressing a few leaves from the salad, yum, lol. Yes, I prefer medium rare, but more often than not, most cooks undercook, but like you said better that way than over. All and all for the price you got a deal for sure. Thanks for the review, see you soon!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I bet that would've worked as a steak sandwich.
Thank you for another awesome video, James! Ever since you popped up on my For You page, I've been watching you every single day, both at school and at home. Hope to see you hit 100K subscribers soon!! God bless, man!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!
Great review and I can't wait for Per Se!!!
Thank you! I'm really excited to share that one!
I enjoy your videos, James. I'm coming back to New York City in November for a few days to celebrate my Birthday, all the way from Dublin, Ireland, and I am looking for great places to eat. Your channel gives me some tasty sounding places to visit while I'm there. Cheers! Subscribed!
Thank you so much! That makes me happy to hear. I hope you have a great trip when you come to NYC!
Excellent review!
Thank you!
Sounds like a great value. I am really looking forward to your review of Per Se!!!
Thank you! I can't wait to share that one!
Dude, Affordable Casual and by the looks of your plates and dishes, Delicious... Great review, Forks Up,,,,
Thank you! It was definitely a solid deal for good food!
07:28 he complained about the bread but still ate it all :) The bread looked really good though.
It's really a lot of food for 19 bucks.
I actually just had one roll, but my napkin was covering the others. It's definitely a great deal!
😮OMG I didn’t know Ottomanelli was still around. Great to hear. In the 80’s there were several Ottomanelli butcher shops in Manhattan. Pricier than a supermarket but always a better choice. As time progressed diets got healthier which meant that many of these shops closed. One great place was, I believe, a Ukrainian butcher shop called Kurowycky’s. They had the best smoked hams and were often reviewed in the New York Times. During the major holidays the lines outside that store went for several blocks. Everything there was old world European and superb. Best of all it was never over priced. Unusual for Manhattan. They owned the building and not dealing with huge rents. Hence the more favorable pricing. Alas, over the years diets changed to healthier fare and the owners decided to close the store. I remember waiting in those long lines for that outrageously delicious smoked ham. New York is an ever changing metropolis. I miss that store but glad to see Ottomanelli’s is still holding on. Thanks again James, as always.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the detailed and informative comment! I really appreciate it! Indeed, times have changed, but yes, it's great that Ottomanelli is still around.
they used to have two Ottomonelli restaurants one on 86th and York and the other 18th between Par and Irving and they were good. I like the spaghetti bolognese.
I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!
I would go with the pepper steak, baked potato and mushrooms. Heck of a deal!
Absolutely!
Great deal!
Absolutely!
wow! gonna check this out now - thx
Thanks for watching! It's definitely worth checking out.
Hi & happy new spring
Hi! Thanks for watching!
This looked great.
It was a solid deal indeed!
I'd go back in a heartbeat, that's an unbeatable deal even though it's not fine dinning. Looking forward to that Per Se video for sure!
I know what you mean. It's a deal that really stands out. I'm looking forward to sharing my Per Se experience.
Walked by this place all the time but didn't know they had such a good deal! Woodside definitely has a lot of hidden gems.
Absolutely! There's a lot of good restaurants there.
Wow this looks great.
It was a great deal and good meal for sure!
great video, i love your shirt it goes hard af
Haha! Thank you!
Decent lunch and price! Can't wait for the Per Se video!
It was a great deal for sure! I'm really excited to share my experience there.
Love this review!! I admit I was super-skeptical going into this video, but if you choose the right sides, the F. Ottomanelli is a New York City steal. And the restaurant itself looks NICE, not sketchy, not bare-bones and proof that you don’t always need bells & whistles if the food is good and thoughtfully prepared and the price is right.
Hey since you’re a fan of Legasea, I want to share a place I discovered during my recent stay at the Moxy: IT Italian Trattoria on 7th Ave. Solid pasta (and pastries), seems like an Italian immigrant family-run chain, kind of fast-ish casual, beautiful decor, delicious and very affordable.
Thank you! Yeah, F. Ottomanelli is really all about the food, but with a solid price. It's a no frills establishment. Also, thank you for the recommendation. It sounds like a good spot.
My Son is in Queens, heading up in June.
I will try then.
I hope you enjoy it!
What a deal ! Can’t get a sandwich these days for $19!
I know what you mean. It's expensive out there, especially in NYC.
You got that right.
You literally can get a big mac for 5 dollars lol@@50Street21
Thank you Joe Biden for 4 wars
I always get lost trying to get into Queens via the subway. Ill try it when I drive.
Yeah, the subway can get kind of confusing.
I wish I had an F. Ottomanelli in MY neighborhood!
I know what you mean.
Wow, I remember going to Ottomanelli way back in the early 80s since my mother and father thought they had the absolute best sausages you could find from an Italian butcher shop. I also used to love it when we got the pre-prepared pepper steak they had, so good. I know they opened this burger "stand" type place back in 2012 I think, so I never ate there. But if they use meats from the butcher shop (which they obviously do lol) then I'm sure pretty much anything you get from them would be high quality and worth it. As long as it's cooked properly and seasoning well of course :D
Nice! Yeah, the establishment really has a long history. I wish I could've talked about it more in the video. They definitely seem to have high quality food.
What a DEAL. That’s a deal anywhere, let alone NYC!! I’m perplexed how they can afford to sell that.
I know what you mean. It's such an incredible price!
Hah! This is so cool.
I've just started watching your channel, and I live in Woodside - I've been coming to Ottomanelli's for like 4 years.
Neat that you came here. Frank's burgers are some of the best, consistent, affordable burgers I've had in the whole Burrough.
And I definitely need to stop by and have their steak as well. Looking forward to it.
Glad you stopped by!
Thank you! Yeah, I definitely have to try one of their burgers sometime.
Great deal and you seemed to really enjoy it, good choice!!😊
Absolutely! It was a great value!
Looks like a great deal for some good food!
It definitely was!
😂😂😂 that intro music had me thinking I had clicked on a Gabriel Traveler video.
Haha!
As soon as I heard it I came straight to the comments 😂
As they say, you get what you pay for. But not a bad deal. The place in NYC for 35.00 looks like the ticket. 🥩
Indeed! Yeah, I really liked L'Entrecote.
Definitely a good deal! The texture on that steak looks great too!
Absolutely! Yeah, that steak was pretty satisfying!
That spinach looked scary, but what a deal. 😊
Haha! Yeah, I think I will be getting a different side dish for my next visit.
First, and as always James...Cheers. Watching the review now. Edit, other than the creamed spinach, everything looked really tasty. Man what a bargain. I prefer casual over dress up these days.
Thank you! Yeah, that creamed spinach could've been a bit better, but the good part is that there were other sides to choose from at least. Cheers!
Nice review James. Seems like extraordinary value for the $. We have exchanged notes on this before, but you were so close to Donovans on Roosevelt Ave, you should stop in and have a Guinness and bacon cheeseburger
Thank you! I will definitely do a video on Donovan's. I've been meaning to go there for awhile.
@@Jamesnu Used to be really good. Dont know if so today. Dont want to disappoint you. What I do know is that Taverna Kyclades is Astoria is still pretty good. Stay well James
@@kevin7151 Thank you! Taverna Kyclades is another spot I plan to check out.
You should give Commerce Inn a try! A super underrated Rita Sodi restaurant
I've heard about that one. I definitely would like to try it sometime!
That a great deal. Yes the creamed Spinach did not look like a good rendition of that dish. But considering the price acceptable.
For sure! At least there are other options to get for sides besides the creamed spinach.
Just spent $16 at a Wendy's. Definitely going to check out this place.
Yeah, compared to fast food, this spot is a deal!
Erina
Haha! I love her too!
Hmm, I was thinking of horseradish for that steak! Say, is there a NYC restaurant that does sous vide for their steaks? “After finishing”…absolutely empty dishes! It’s James, 😂 Next time. Go BIG.
I'll definitely get a big steak next time! Yeah, I'm sure there must be a restaurant that sous vides their steak in NYC.
Hi James,
I am really enjoying your channel. Today is no exception because how in the world did you find a $19 steak dinner with two sides as well.
Be it Keens, or this bargain today you cover them all!
Best Wishes,
Peter
Thank you Peter! Yeah, I really want to make sure that I have a good variety of videos in terms of food and the price point.
I love that place. Very close to me😊😊😊
Nice!
Crazy deal :) great vid, subbed :)
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
YUM!!!
😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
Thank you! It was delicious!
I love flat iron steak. It's got a real beef flavour to it.
Absolutely!
Great review is that an invicta watch or the Rolex
Thank you! That's a Seiko skx009.
Wow, that's a really good deal, but the creamed spinach imbalance is definitely something they should correct:)
Definitely! Yeah, even the appearance of the creamed spinach doesn't look the greatest.
I like the idea of steak per oz.
Me too. It's certainly unique for a restaurant.
Great review the sides didn't look good must be related to other ottominelli butchers .looking forward to your per se review I went when it got 4 stars in the times same as masa .you had 2 4 star restaurant next to each other and Le Bernardin down close by now only Le Bernardin kept times 4 star .
Thank you! Yeah, I'm really looking forward to sharing the experience I had at Per Se. It was pretty amazing!
@@Jamesnu I see videos of people eating in dining room and no jacket when I went jacket was required they added the lounge seating for more casual affordable dining no jacket
@@RR-fg2rl That's interesting. When I went the lounge was nearly empty, but the dining room was filled with people. I think most diners were pretty dressed up.
@@Jamesnu good
Hi James, it should be pretty obvious to all of us by now that the very idea of expensive restaurants is to appeal to people who can afford the premium that comes with a Michelin-like culinary experience. But, we, living in a 'democracy' , 'equals among equals', think that it's meant for us, too, and then we complain about the cost. The restaurants for us who can't afford the Michelin Star experiences are ones like F.Ottomanelli. Thank God, they exist! They should be celebrated with our patronage as often as we can ! Thanks, James, for another sleek video ! All the best !
Thank you! Indeed, it's important to celebrate the restaurants that are offering good food for good prices when so many places have gotten so costly.
Brindle room burger. Do it.
I will definitely get to it.
Love this channel. You're showing culture of a city that is disappearing. Question: Do women in New York ask men out for dinner......and pay the tab?! Was in the gym this a.m. surrounded by grunting and sweaty women......all masculine of course! Lol. Timmy C Arizona
Thank you!
Dip the fries in the cream, problem solved 👍🏻
Haha!
I can only assume they are related to Ottomanelli Bros on the Upper East Side.
Maybe. It's a bit confusing because there's also an Ottomanelli shop in Greenwich Village, but the Queens location is the only one with the steak deal.
@@Jamesnu Fun fact... Harper Lee lived 40 years of her life on that block and only left her tiny apartment once a day to buy food from Ottomanelli Bros. Truman Capote lived on that block at the same time. They were childhood friends. She would leave the NYT with complete crossword puzzles in the entryway every day too.
@@nychris2258 Wow! I didn't know that! That's really interesting! Thanks for sharing!
i just paid 20 dollars canadian for a fist sized poutine, 1 steam hot dog and a fountain ice tea.
including 15% tip
That sounds like a good meal.
I was concerned by how pale you where at the start. Looks like that Steaks sorted you out though. Really like your channel.
Thank you!
Looks like a good place when funds are low.
Definitely!
Brother... what is that shirt you're wearing...
That is from the anime Food Wars, which is a great series!
When I thought you couldn’t get any cooler, you film wearing an Erina Nakiri shirt. Love your videos!
@@elvenstein Haha! Thank you!
How does it compare to Sizzlers?
I haven't been to Sizzlers yet.
Bro, I live locally I’ve been watching you for a few weeks now I have a proposition I don’t know how we would contact each other but I would love to go to that place to try the duck. I’ll buy the duck for us to eat. I am currently building a UA-cam channel for my race car
I appreciate the offer, but I don't usually go back to restaurants for a while, just to keep my videos fresh.
that should be $12
I think that it's a good deal.
Proving yet again that you get what you pay for
Indeed!
$390 was the most expensive meal of your Life? I cant wait to see where you go in the future!
It was a bit more expensive than that. I also paid for drinks, tax and a tip, but it was an epic meal and I look forward to sharing it.
I will do 1 push up to support this channel for every like on this comment
Haha! I appreciate the support!
too raw, should have asked to fix it
I didn't mind.
Well done, James. That spinach looked like something served at a nursing home, lol. Keep up the great work.
Haha! Thank you!
can you review the new high-end fried chicken place "Coqodaq"
I definitely plan to check out that restaurant.
This is probably the best deal you by far, have covered on your channel, wow
It's a pretty good deal, that's for sure!
