  • Today I discuss something that's been bothering me since 2013 when I first went to see Frozen in theaters. It's the fact that I don't like that Hans is the villain in Frozen and I have finally sat down and discussed my theory as to why he definitely IS NOT the Villain in Disney's Frozen.

    Thank you for mentioning King Candy in the beginning. He is the best written twist villain of all time. It is so obvious he is the villain, but Disney gives us a reason he might not be. They made us believe maybe he isn’t the real villain, that the virus bugs were going to be villains, the final battle. But then they do a 180, and it doesn’t come out of nowhere. If you pay attention or rewatch, it is so obvious. It all fits perfectly. That is why King Candy is my favorite Disney Villain of 2000-2021 that I’ve seen

      I’d argue Commander Rourke and especially the crew from Atlantis the Lost Empire, given they’re genuinely friendly with Milo and kinda helping him out on his first adventure, despite they’re really after the treasures and wealth of what they assumed was a dead city, not really caring about the Atlantians upon realizing they’re actually alive

    I have been saying this for such a long time!!! There are so many ways they could have slightly tweaked the story to make Hans a more understandable villain. But no he's basically an angel of a human being until the end when he suddenly isn't and it makes no sense.

      Exactly! It makes no sense! I mostly made this theory because I want to enjoy listening to Love is an Open Door because I love Santino Fontana but I also just have so many qualms with the plot and story of Frozen. I think the real villains of this movie are the parents. I mean they split the kids up without giving Anna an explanation and essentially ruin their children’s relationship which causes all the problems when the girls become adults. Idk. I love Frozen but this story has some crazy problems.

    • @PunziesPalace
      @PunziesPalace  3 роки тому +11

      Oh most definitely. There should be a ranking of the disney parents, and they would definitely be in the bottom. Basically telling their kid to bottle up all emotions and never feel? Yeah, pretty terrible. It's definitely a movie to enjoy on the surface and try not to think too hard about or you'll get really frustrated at a lot of it.

    I've thought since I first saw the film that Elsa is the real villain. She nearly killed her sister (twice). Then when they wrote that hit song, they decided to create some convoluted bad guy instead.

    • @PunziesPalace
      @PunziesPalace  3 роки тому +19

      I like that they made her instead a better character, instead of just a villain, but they could've just gone with her as a misguided villain who finds a way to be good at the end. That would've been a good choice too instead of just trying to label someone as a bad guy.

    I've seen a few people suggest that the "act of true love" sacrifice at the end should have been done by Elsa instead of Anna, b/c it would have been character development for Elsa to actually have to show Anna that she loved her rather than having Anna solve everything for her. Maybe you could make a video about that idea and how it would have changed the movie thematically or plot-wise?

    Okay, I have an idea as to why the trolls would even bother helping the royal family at the beginning of the film: "It's the King!" Trolls are *rarely* helpful to humans, which means that *sometimes* they do. These trolls of the *valley of living rock* seem to have a bit of a history with the *royal family* if Arendelle (myth book with the map) so getting in good with the current royal family would benefit them. Saving Anna as a child can only benefit them in the long run, as *the King* hardly ever goes to them. So the Trolls of Frozen would help the royal family at the beginning of the movie to make sure the King saw them as a powerful, reliable allie. Now that Anna has benefitted from their input twice in Frozen + once (sorta) in Frozen 2 & she's officially engaged to their Kristoff & she's the new Queen of Arendelle they have all the power & influence over the people that they could ever need or want. As to why the trolls would want that.... Whatever the reason, I have a feeling it's not good.

    Hans backstory is explained in the book " A frozen heart". It says that he was bullied and humiliated by his brothers and his father considered this abusive behavior by his sons to Hans to be a sign of strenght upon the weak. So, I think that Hans probably was so frustrated by this mistreatment that he would have escaped to another realm to marry, and so he came to Arendelle to marry Elsa, but then he saw that Elsa was having trouble with herself so he targeted Anna. But i think that this theory that you made is very good and makes very sense, and if this is confirmed by disney that would be official: the trolls are the real villains!!!!

    going even further, maybe the trolls could have mind-controlled hans to kill elsa because anna is next in line for the throne, which would give them indirect control over the human population of arrendele when christoff was to marry her. but once they realise that anna chose to save elsa and that if they didn't use elsa's hug as the act of true love, anna would die, they changed their mind.

    6:23 I do not think they just altered his memories. They created a whole new personality that was taking control over him a few times throughout the film. Plus he can tell noone otherwise something bad happens (maybe trolles threathened to kill Hans' family). And they did it years ago coz he has bad reputation in his family.

    Actually, I think the true villain behind the frozen movie is not the trolls or the parents. It’s Hans’s father to think about it if Hans had took him, Arrendale for himself, and his father would’ve been king of the Simone Isles and Arendelle for his father, King George

  • @ethenallen1388
    @ethenallen1388 3 роки тому +4

    1 Hans was thirteenth in line of succession to the Southern Isles and unlikely to inherit much if anything in the way money or land. His parents may have arranged for him to learn a trade, otherwise he would have no way to support a wife and children, compared to Anna who was one heartbeat away from inheriting a prosperous kingdom, and the owner of that heartbeat had just turned twenty-one and was in excellent health. When one considers that, his being in such a hurry to marry her starts to look suspicious.
    2 Codirector Jennifer Lee confirmed in an interview that she meant Hans to be a warning to girls everywhere that some guys are manipulative jerks and they need to choose their romantic partners carefully.

    Trolls or not, Hans's only fault was being a jerk to Anna-which isn't a crime. And lying. Everything else he did was entirely reasonable and justified. @@PunziesPalace She changes the scene where Hans falls into the water under the boat to gaze goofily at Anna's retreating back. In the book he's just standing there, before going to Elsa's coronation ceremony at the chapel, thinking about how confusing Anna for Elsa (the only Princess if Arendelle he was aware of in the book) & that introduction was like a joke his brothers would've pulled on him. It just felt weird how some scenes from the movie involving Hans weren't just omittedbut written over in his OOV so it read different.
      Also, in that pivotal scene towards the end of the movie when Hans leans in to kiss Anna, Hans' posture / body language before the almost-kiss (his he was holding / supporting Anna or not) is different than it was in the movie. He actually drops her on the couch before leaving her & uttering that atrocious signature line. In the book, that is; which is weird because he didn't & couldn't have dropped her on the couch in the movie. Hans wasn't holding her body upright in that scene. I know, I've researched it. Interestingly & rather annoyingly, after Hans says his line to Anna (withdrawing) we switch to Anna's POV.
      For those of us who like Hans' character & believe he wasn't really a villain it is a rough read because we're reading from his *altered* POV quite possibly from the beginning. There are hints in his POV that he's not remembering everything accurately, yet also that his memories only had to be slightly tweaked to turn him 'evil'.
      From his POV: She had given him no choice. (Talking about Elsa) Despite his best efforts to keep the blood off his hands, he saw no alternative. (This is after his conversation with her in the cell)

      @@PunziesPalace Okay, so if you do read it, just know that it reads a little rough to us fans who like Hans' character & do not believe he was the villain because she writes almost all of his POV as heavily influenced from his Westergaard family upbringing. It also contradicts the movie's "message" of falling in love after having just met; the writers failed to hold themselves to the standards they set, so I won't take their story seriously and instead tear it apart every chance I get.

      And he saved Elsa when his men could have killed her when she created an ice monster and started shooting ice darts.

      Yes, and Elsa almost destroyed thousands of people's lives. Why on Earth should I feel sorry for her after her wanton display of self-absorption nearly got her subjects killed, or at the very least endangered their livelihoods? Her actions had far worse repercussions than his. It was completely justified to end her, because for all he knows, there's no other way to stop the catastrophe. I hate that the narrative treats this as if he was in the wrong when it's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to come to. But this movie is chock-full of logical inconsistencies.

      @AnimaVox_ Indeed it is!
      How it won Favorite Animated Movie at the Kids Choice Awards, I don't know. I guess it's because not only do young girls love princesses, but all the guys split their opinions between the other three choices.
      But more than that, my mom keeps telling me to "look at it through the eyes of young girls who love princesses and colors" or whatever. That's just insulting, because smart kids don't watch movies to look at princesses, they watch movies to be entertained! And this bring a Disney movie is even more insulting, because Walt Disney was a good man and a hero to children everywhere. And he focused on making movies for kids AND adults. Not just for little girls who have never even been in a castle and have probably never met any real princesses in their life!

    The real villain had planned to be Elsa, but they wrote THE SONG and they decided to change it mid production. I think this may explain why Hans change his mind so weirdly and why it's practically not even mentioned in the second movie (just for the laughs).
