- A live service on the Peebles town service. This service is in two parts, 90A & 90B, with two distinct separate parts of the town being serviced by each route. This is the 90A. The Optare Solo is normally (but not exclusively!) used on this service due to the confines of the streets/turns. The other half of the town will be in a following video. I hope you enjoy the slightly different view on this vid.
I found this Video by sheer chance and so pleased to do so. It's a trip of nostalgia for, I was last in Peebles in 1974.
I had my first ever job at The Hydro, starting in 1973 and stayed for 12 months before moving away. Great memories and nice to see the main street hasn't changed that much, architecturally. Other parts of the route are, well, a wee bit new!
I bet you see changes after that time! A double sized town. That part of the route is blocked prevents you seeing more. I wonder what changes you’ll see when part 2 comes along 🤔😁
Iveco steering wheel on a solo surely that’s not right 😂 great video mate
Thanks. Iveco is what it says but I just drive them mate! 😊
That's what i thought too when i saw a Solo with the same wheel.
Most of Optares dashes up until the introduction of Metrodecker were mid to late 90’s Iveco derived dashboards
@@neoman7792 This is an 11 plate vehicle 🤔
Optare solos always came with an iveco/irisbus steering wheel just with an optare logo. The fact the wheel has an iveco logo indicates it is possibly aftermarket and makes me think it has been replaced once.
I love an Optare town service, we operate one down here and whenever its on my duty its a nice jolly
Thanks, couldn’t agree more 😁
Thanks for the wee tour round.
You’re very welcome. The other half of the town soon 😊
Now that was an enjoyable and relaxing bus ride. I’m looking forward to Part 2. I think we all are.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Part 2 in a while 😊
@@TravelswithBillybob You’re welcome. Take your time.
lovely to see and hear the friendly passenger interactions in your videos, you do it so well! thanks for not cutting those parts out 😀
Thanks. A big part of the job IMHO 👍
Lovely I prefer this camera angle tbh good video.
Thanks. This angle is simpler to use especially if you’re not the first driver on the bus as it takes time to set up the other views.
Lovely video
Thanks 😊
I’ve been a bus driver for nearly 20 years now. And I have to say, the solos are the second best bus I’ve ever driven. I started driving Leyland Nationals and they took some beating.
I’ll take your word for mate, I’m new to this game! 👍
@@TravelswithBillybob bless ya, you’ll be fine, the leg room isn’t brilliant in the cab. But providing you’re not too tall, you should be ok. Shame they don’t make them anymore, thats all I can say ☹️
What is your first best? ☺️
@@WayneTulip-zm9gw Leyland National for sure! 👌 you gotta drive one to understand. They were brilliant. Nothing but fond memories of them 👌
I always wanted to be a bus driver when I was younger. ☺️ I was just wondering, can car drivers wait on a ‘bus stop clearway’ with a wide yellow line along the kerb of the bus stop in a stationary queue of traffic?
Great video!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 😊
The fact that the front wheels are infront of you must take some getting used to because you can't just swing out
Hi, not really but you have to take care of the rear swing due to the closeness of the parked vehicles in the narrow roads.
@@TravelswithBillybob Yeah town routes can be very tight
very cool
Thanks, glad you liked it 😊
somethings stay the same in the borders 🙂
but a optare Solo with a IVACO stearing wheel😆
Yeah, beats me but who knows 🤔
Doesn’t Peebles have a outstation at the car park for some buses?
Hi, yes does, rotating through during the day and a few parked up overnight. It is open to any bus company to use and often has a tour company buses in there for a few hours at a time.
@@TravelswithBillybob Thought so. I take it vehicle maintenance & control is all done from Galashiels?
Correct ✅
Are you doing? 253 today. At 1500
Not me.
@@TravelswithBillybob yeah, I didn’t even go on the 253 are you doing? X95
Iveco solo 😂
Yes 😊 Seems an amusing oddity indeed!
No £2 fares in Scotty land eh?
The fare subsidy that England has does not apply in Scotland.
Got to love a solo! Great video :)
@@Class43Harrisonyeah, not my fav but nice enough to drive. 👍
@@SleekitFkr they are great! Quirky is probably the best to describe them haha.
I love a Streetlite personally!
Rather grumpy bus driver. And the pen will scratch the POS screen if he's not careful.
Hi, I’d dispute the grumpy but you may be right about the pen! 😊
