    I'm hoping that my kids will be able to do duel enrollment for at least part of their Junior and Senior year classes. I recently looked into it in our state and found that there are even grants to help pay for it. I admire Katie so much for being so focused and driven. Being so self-disciplined is rare these days, no doubt she will go far!

    Such great information! I will have to look into this to be ready when Bailey gets ready for high school. They grow up way to fast and he will be there before I know it.

    Such good information, as always!! Question: since TG&B does not offer books such as The Scarlett Letter, To Kill a Mockingbird, and other literary classics...would you suggest adding those titles? Or would you say that the Honors course that they offer is "enough?" I don't know how closely colleges look at the actual book titles that students read, or if they simply look at the course title with "honors or AP" in it???

      I don’t think what they call honors is enough (my personal opinion-not everyone will agree 😀). I did include many of the classics because I wanted to include titles that colleges expect high schoolers to have read. My video 3 in this series includes the book lists that I have used for Katie.

    Now i wonder since Illinois laws are so non existent how dual enrollment would work here. I’m gonna look into this. Thanks!

      I’m sure that there’s a dual enrollment program of some kind that you could use. You can look at the state department of education or you can go to a local college or technical college to find out.

    Can my high schooler take Visual Arts AP offline with art books I choose from library?

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  Рік тому +1

      AP classes are different. In order for it to be considered AP, it must be a class given by a certified AP instructor with the class materials approved. However, without all that, if you did the class yourself, your student could take the AP exam afterwards and if they get a passing score, the exam could be listed on the high school transcript. My understanding is that you need to set up the exam well in advance though. Some colleges will give credit for AP exams with passing scores and some do not. Others accept only certain classes or cap the credits you may earn with AP.

      @@simplejoyfilledliving He took it last year offline with library books at the art level. So is there something online for him to take the exam? If he doesn't take the Exam, can he still get basic credit for it or was it a waste altogether?

      @@reneec3186 I believe you register for the appropriate AP exam with a local school at the beginning of the year and then take it at the end of the year. Here’s an article that explains it: apstudents.collegeboard.org/faqs/im-homeschooled-how-can-i-take-ap-exam

    Would a lot of these ideas work for any state? I know college is a whole thing different that k-12. What ideas would be specific for SC and what would be general.

    • @simplejoyfilledliving
      @simplejoyfilledliving  4 роки тому +3

      These are all for any state except that you need to check on how gpa is calculated in your state to determine the gpa boost that your student would get. Most states look like what I showed for SC. In fact, SC changed theirs a few years ago to better align with the rest of the country as far as GPA calculations.

    Can you recommend something that teaches how to write a paper?

      The Good and the Beautiful teaches how to write papers in a step by step format in their high school curriculum. We have also used IEW and Lost Tools of writing in middle school. Lost Tools only covers persuasive writing though.
