  • We purchased a used Coleman Columbia pop up camper (built in 1984) about a year and a half ago. We used it for a couple trips and then moved up to a larger Jayco hybrid. The little Coleman was moved to the side yard and covered. It needed new canvas, roof repairs, and new cabling to make it truly functional. I thought about selling it as is but then figured it would be more fun to convert it into a very tiny enclosed camper. So...that's what we're going to do!
    Thanks for taking a look.

I can't wait to see how your mini micro hard side turns out. Just be sure to brace the bottom of your uprights so the stress is displaced from end to end. Made that mistake long before UA-cam lol.

I love this video series and you have inspired me to build my own. I was just wondering how the pine board held up on the sides with weather?

My family bought a Ski-Tow in 1968 and we kept it about 25 years. About 10 years in we replaced its canvas. By the late 70s the Apaches were coming out with the rigid snap in panels. Those were popular for a number of years. The new pop ups use cordura nylon which doesn't rot like the cotton.
Have you thought about going with an alpine design. Those look very interesting. There is a youtube video of someone putting one up in about 38 seconds.

I have lots of ideas floating around in my head, we'll see how it goes. I'm going for strong and simple. I'm looking forward to the project.

Hey! I just bought a 1985 Colman pop up trailer and I’m transforming it to a full up hard sided just like you! Can I ask for advice?

Just want to know how does your rebuilt camper ride down the highway? I have an old coleman sun valley I want to build but I want to tow it across country. Any advice?

Well, I haven't towed this rebuild yet. When it was just a pop up it was very easy to tow. Hardly knew it was there.
