Notice that by some strange fate Sarah is betrayed by machines twice. First by the answering machine when she calls home to say she's at the club, and later when Dr. Silberman is leaving the police station his beeper goes on just as Arnold enters. I love that little detail!
The phrase you're looking for Addie, is "predestination paradox". Fun fact: the guy who gives the Terminator his clothes was Brian Thompson, who would go on to play a Terminator-esque character on "The X-Files".
James Cameron's real message in The Terminator is a warning. In that humanitys obsessions with technology could ultimately be our undoing. Is A.I. already self aware? When I saw The Terminator as a kid I felt so terrified. Especially the glimpses into one possible horrific future. T2 was more action than horror but amazing.
"A weird time loop". Yes. The Terminator franchise relies on the causal loop proposition, a paradox in which something (John) has no origin. Sending Reese back relies on Reese meeting Sarah, which again relies on sending Reese back.
Well, now you have to watch T2 as well because they come as a pack of 2 always. :D Glad you liked it. The story of the first 2 movies is just great, mixed with great suspense and action. Oh, and as a little side note. Watch the cinematic version of T2, not the longer one.

If you want more James Cameron movies, then I would recommend *Aliens (Special Edition), The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic, & Avatar (2009). *But watch Alien (1979) first.
The second movie is a masterpiece. Perhaps some people do like the first one more because reasons. But T2 is one of the best movies in history hands down.
All kinds of people here from other movies - Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton (one of the 3 punks at the beginning) will be in Aliens, and Nick Rossovich (Sarah's roommate's boyfriend) played Slider in Top Gun.
Did you know that they actually poured a light acid on Arnold for the scene where he jumps on the car and punches through the windshield to create the effect? Cool stuff back in the '80s.
The Terminator launched the trend of Gargoyle and similar sunglasses, and that wrap-around sport style is still popular today. Of all the things about a movie like this, its one of the odder bits of cultural trivia.
I prefer this to the sequel. In fact, I think that The Terminator is an excellent one off movie that didn't need any sequels. It told the story it wanted to tell.
9:10 that cop that is knocked out is played by Brad Fiedel the guy who did the soundtrack for this movie. He didn't want to be killed in the movie because he knew his mom would see the movie. He did want her to see him killed.
I was in the 4th or 5th grade when this came out. Fell in love with it instantly. Seen it dozens of times, if not more. In an amazing turn of events, my film career started with a gig as a background extra working with the wife of Michael Biehn, who played Kyle Reese. Now, my wife and I are friends of the family. They live in Arizona too. As a matter of fact, they own a thrift store in Bisbee, and my wife and I went there today because they had everything 50% off for Labor Day. They're overseas at the moment, so we didn't get to hang out, but we see them from time to time. In another turn of events, I've also appeared in a film with Robert Patrick, who is in Terminator 2. I won't ruin it for you, since you haven't seen it yet. Can't wait til you do.
First Terminator's a classic. It really was a blast 'cause, remember, this is 1984, people weren't used to time travel (we're one year before Back To The Future) or event human looking robots so, at the time, the story was considered very imaginative. This is one of James Cameron's very first movies, same for Arnold (Before that, all he had done were the two Conan movies) and this one made him a star

As far as "realistic androids" go-hello! _Metropolis,_ 1927, _THX 1138,_ 1972, _Westworld_, 1973, _The Stepford Wives,_ 1975, _Blade Runner,_ 1982 . . .
I was one of the few people to view this film when it was initially released. Though the Terminator series is famous, the first installment did not enjoy the success of its later sequels! Kudos to Arnold, Michael Beihn, and Linda Hamilton!
The first two TERMINATOR movies are great, but the series did start to slip after 2. I have a soft spot for RISE OF THE MACHINES and SALVATION. Especially SALVATION, because it's the only entry about the machine war. GENISYS tried to change up the established canon and it's just a huge mess. DARK FATE was slightly better, but only in the sense it didn't anger me as much. It was too little too late. I kind of hope the series of over now. Forever.
Check out TERMINATOR 2, one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made! Before Schwarzenegger was cast as the titular character, OJ Simpson was considered to play The Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind saying, "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦 Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Lance Henriksen, and Tom Selleck were considered for the role. Sting, Treat Williams, Christopher Reeve, Scott Glenn, Michael O'Keefe, Tommy Lee Jones, Matt Dillon, and Bruce Springsteen were considered for Kyle Reese. Lea Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Harper, Melissa Sue Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, and Lisa Langolis were considered for Sarah Connor.
'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' actually exceeded the original 'Terminator'... Arnold returns as the Terminator, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor... Edward Furlong played a young John Conner... and Robert Patrick is the new T-1000. 'Terminator 3: Rise of the machines' was done without director James Cameron, who did the first 2 movies... Arnold returned as the Terminator again... Nick Stahl played an adult John Connor... Claire Danes played Katherine Brewster, a vet who knew John Connor from school... and Kristanna Loken played the femme T-X. 'Terminator: Salvation' (Part 4) is the last of this timeline w/ John Connor, taking place 15 years after 'Terminator 3' - Arnold is NOT in it... In the middle of the war against Skynet, Christian Bale played John Connor is a soldier rallying the human race against the machines... Dallas Bryce Howard as Katherine Brewster... (late actor) Anton Yelchin played a teenage Kyle Reese... and Sam Worthington ('Avatar') played Marcus, a death row convict who wakes up to find the world destroyed and he seems to be more than human. The other 'Terminator' movies have a different timeline and did not live up to the franchise, even w/ Arnold back as the Terminator.
"We got 30 cops in this building" I always laugh at that line. This, T2 and the Conan movies were my childhood in a nutshell. Reese said "I always wondered what you were thinking in that picture" turns out she was thinking about him.
This film was released after the summer blockbuster season, because nobody was sure how it would do. It became a super hit on a really low budget, and I found it a really fun surprise, when I saw it in the theater in 1984. The second film, T2, is worth seeing. Skip the rest.
You have to remember it is a machine. SO unless you destroy enough of it to not function, then it will keep going. In the terminator lore the head and chest is reinforced. since the head holds the processor and the chest area holds the power cells. If you are going to do the first one then you have to commit to watching the second.
I was a bit too young to see The Terminator when it came out. A few years later I turned on the TV and there was a movie on with a robot chasing a man and a woman through a factory. I watched the end of it and thought it was pretty cool, but had no idea at the time what movie it was! I figured it out by describing it to a friend the next day. When I finally saw the whole movie I thought it was one of the best movies I’d ever seen! I still think that, although there are other contenders I’ve seen since then.
Hey, Addie! This is a modern classic of science fiction. This movie put director James Cameron on the map and became one of Schwarzenegger's signature roles. "I'll be back." and "Come with me if you want to live." entered into the general lexicon. This is my favorite of the franchise but many prefer the sequel to the original. The first sequel is well worth watching and is also directed by Cameron. There are six films in the series which grow increasingly convoluted and provide diminishing returns although they are all entertaining on some level. However, none match the simplicity and elegance of the original in my opinion. A very popular franchise, "The Terminator" spawned a television series, a comic book series, multiple video games, detailed action figures for adult collectors and merchandise. Several actors who would later feature in Cameron's "Aliens" worked with him here first: -- Kyle Reese was played by Michael Biehn who was Cpl. Dwayne Hicks -- the punk with the blue spiky hair was played by the late Bill Paxton who was Pvt. Hudson -- the lanky Det. Vukovich was played by Lance Henriksen who was the android Bishop The late Paul Winfield, who played Lt. Traxler, was an accomplished character actor known for his love of science fiction, his amazing performance in "Sounder" and his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The late Dick Miller, who played the gun shop owner, was a prolific character actor best known for "Gremlins". Earl Boen, who played the skeptical psychologist Dr. Silberman, reprises the role twice more in the franchise! Linda Hamilton also reprises the role of Sarah Connor twice more in the franchise and, like Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, the character became a feminist icon. As the series progresses, it becomes more and more apparent that the 'singularity' -- or artificial intelligence -- is an inevitability that cannot be thwarted. A war against thinking machines is a common trope of cinematic and literary science fiction. It remains one of the top five doomsday scenarios of the genre which include alien invasion, nuclear holocaust, zombie apocalypse and ecological collapse. It is a surprisingly romantic film with lines like, "I came across time for you, Sarah." The most romantic element in the movie is that the picture of Sarah given to Kyle by their son, John Connor, which causes Kyle to fall in love with Sarah captures a moment where she's remembering Kyle and the time they shared. He cherished an image of a frozen moment when she was thinking of him. Beautiful detail.
This is one of my favorite sci-fi / time travel movies. Well thought out, and good performances. Ahhnold is convincing as a superhuman cyborg, and Michael Biehn is above average as Reese. Definitely recommend Terminator 2.
I like that you didn't laugh at the stop motion of the skeleton at the end. A lot of other channels do, and I get it, because it does look super janky compared to effects today lol. But for some reason I liked that you didn't point it out, even. (Though, maybe you did in your full version lol) Looking forward to you doing T2 in the future. I'd also love T3, but it seems a lot of react channels stop after 2 because most comments say that T3 isn't good. Idk, I enjoyed all of the first 3 a lot. Perfect reaction to this classic sci fi movie
Sarah Connor was very lucky to have survived against everything. Have you seen An American Werewolf In London? It was an 80's horror/comedy classic. Maybe sometime you could do a reaction video of it? I'm sure you would love it.
Addie, after you watch the second movie, do you do reactions to tv shows? there is a great tv show set after the second movie, called the Sarah Connor Chronicles, to me, it's one of the greatest tv shows to ever exist. so if you do videos for each episode, i will watch every video you do.
Agreed on how great the Sarah Connor Chronicles is!
Glad I'm not the only one who saw and loved that show. (Circe Lannister was great and who knew that chick from Garbage could act so well?)
I consider the Terminator : Resistance videogame as the only worthy sequel to Terminator 2. IMO it's the true T3.
@@Deathbird_Mitch Any bet that Shirley Manson can't do something is a bet lost. And Summer Glau is also incredible in the series. Such a shame it didn't get a longer run.
Omg I loooooooove tscv
Notice that by some strange fate Sarah is betrayed by machines twice. First by the answering machine when she calls home to say she's at the club, and later when Dr. Silberman is leaving the police station his beeper goes on just as Arnold enters. I love that little detail!
The phrase you're looking for Addie, is "predestination paradox".
Fun fact: the guy who gives the Terminator his clothes was Brian Thompson, who would go on to play a Terminator-esque character on "The X-Files".
What's impressive about James Cameron is the fact that he never got into film school
Working for Roger Corman in the 70s was better than any film school.
Film schools study James Cameron.
And what’s not impressive is his recent penchant for criticizing and devaluing other director’s films that outdo a film of his in one way or another.
@@JCG52577Like who? Is this another "nerd mad at Scorcese because he rightly points out Marvel movies are formulaic schlock" situation?
James Cameron's real message in The Terminator is a warning. In that humanitys obsessions with technology could ultimately be our undoing. Is A.I. already self aware?
When I saw The Terminator as a kid I felt so terrified. Especially the glimpses into one possible horrific future. T2 was more action than horror but amazing.
Great reaction! When you watch the sequel, I'd recommend the theatrical cut. IMO, it's a little better than the director's cut. 😁
No theatrical version of the film is Camerons directors cut
@@chrisbergsten1429 No theatrical version of the film is Camerons directors cut
he's not in the car anymore. is he the car now?
lol i don't know exactly why, but that line by Addie cracked me up.
Another recurring, iconic quote is, "Come with me if you want to live."
"A weird time loop". Yes.
The Terminator franchise relies on the causal loop proposition, a paradox in which something (John) has no origin. Sending Reese back relies on Reese meeting Sarah, which again relies on sending Reese back.
for us GenX people these films are like old friends and they are still great to watch even after all this time and many many viewing;s... :)
Well, now you have to watch T2 as well because they come as a pack of 2 always. :D Glad you liked it. The story of the first 2 movies is just great, mixed with great suspense and action. Oh, and as a little side note. Watch the cinematic version of T2, not the longer one.
"Ok let's make John" The best quote ever!
After this, Judgement Day.
You recognized that Reese is John's father sooner than anybody else I've ever seen.
Nice reaction, Addie. If you enjoyed The Terminator, you'll love Terminator 2: Judgment Day. BTW, when the Terminator jumped through the fire, his eyebrows burned off. If you want more James Cameron movies, then I would recommend *Aliens (Special Edition), The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic, & Avatar (2009).
*But watch Alien (1979) first.
Second on The Abyss. I don't think I've seen anyone react to Abyss.
The second movie is a masterpiece. Perhaps some people do like the first one more because reasons. But T2 is one of the best movies in history hands down.
"And OF COURSE, he is going to be fine! How? Do you? DEFEAT him?" - Perfect summary for the movie right there!
Great reaction, as usual!
All kinds of people here from other movies - Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton (one of the 3 punks at the beginning) will be in Aliens, and Nick Rossovich (Sarah's roommate's boyfriend) played Slider in Top Gun.
Terminator 2 is a MUST. Forget everything else in the franchise.
13:28 -- You spotted the goof we almost always forget about, with Schwartzenegger's tear or sweat drop.
Love how the opener starts in “2029 AD.” Good lord, we aren’t that far away now…
It's kind of a Paradox about Time Travel. Like "How would things had turned out if you went back and killed Hitler as a Baby".
hi Addie, nice reaction. you will like T2, it's very good too.
Did you know that they actually poured a light acid on Arnold for the scene where he jumps on the car and punches through the windshield to create the effect? Cool stuff back in the '80s.
Terminator 1 and 2 and some of my favorite James Cameron movies along with the abyss
So cool that you have seen this... Just one more terminator film!
but what about the othe--
JUST. ONE. MORE!
So, now you’re ready for the best Sci-Fi Action Sequel ever made!
Of course you mean 'Aliens'...😂
@@davidhoward6254, damn straight. Terminator only needed one film. Aliens is fine with two, only two.
Heck yeah Terminator 2!
@@aarongaming2878, entertaining. Not a patch on the first........
I love The Terminator. It’s one of my go to “there’s nothing on” movies. I’ve long since lost count of how many times I’ve seen it.
"I've Heard This Qoute"
This movie is where that qoute originally came from
The Terminator launched the trend of Gargoyle and similar sunglasses, and that wrap-around sport style is still popular today.
"All right, let's make John"
How are you not demonitized, talking dirty like that? lol
“Alright-let’s make John.”🤣
Even my father liked this movie. One of our family's earliest rentals for our newfangled VCR.
"This is 1984, people weren't used to time travel (we're one year before Back To The Future) or event human looking robots"
What the heck are you on about? _The Time Machine,_ 1960, _La Jetée,_ 1962, _Planet of The Apes,_ 1968, _Escape from the Planet of the Apes,_ 1971, _Time after Time,_ 1979, _Somewhere in Time,_ 1980, _Time Bandits, 1981_ . . .
Favorite movie of all time. Amazing watching it for the first time as a kid.
My favorite movie! I'm excited to see how you react to this one!
Terminator is my favorite love story in fiction personally. It’s got romance and a killer robot from the future!
Forever.
Thumbs up for keeping on top of the plot in this movie better than most react-tubers. Good job, Addie.
Check out TERMINATOR 2, one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made!
Before Schwarzenegger was cast as the titular character, OJ Simpson was considered to play The Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind saying, "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦
Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Lance Henriksen, and Tom Selleck were considered for the role.
Sting, Treat Williams, Christopher Reeve, Scott Glenn, Michael O'Keefe, Tommy Lee Jones, Matt Dillon, and Bruce Springsteen were considered for Kyle Reese.
Lea Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Harper, Melissa Sue Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, and Lisa Langolis were considered for Sarah Connor.
Reece said he'd always wondered what Sarah was thinking about in that photo, at the end we see she was thinking about him.
It really is weird seeing someone watch this and not know before that the Terminator is a cyborg, but it makes it so great.
Funny that Reese fell in love with Sarah from the photo that was taken when she was thinking of him.
"We got 30 cops in this building"
I always laugh at that line. This, T2 and the Conan movies were my childhood in a nutshell. Reese said "I always wondered what you were thinking in that picture" turns out she was thinking about him.
This movie ranked at #82 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo
This film was released after the summer blockbuster season, because nobody was sure how it would do.
It became a super hit on a really low budget, and I found it a really fun surprise, when I saw it in the theater in 1984.
The second film, T2, is worth seeing.
Skip the rest.
"Alright, let's make John!" - James Cameron on set while directing the love scene. 😄 (Don't quote him on that. ^^)
T2 is one of the very few sequels that is better than the original.
It’s also one of the most amazing movie in history.
Several actors who would later feature in Cameron's "Aliens" worked with him here first:
-- Kyle Reese was played by Michael Biehn who was Cpl. Dwayne Hicks
-- the punk with the blue spiky hair was played by the late Bill Paxton who was Pvt. Hudson
-- the lanky Det. Vukovich was played by Lance Henriksen who was the android Bishop
The late Paul Winfield, who played Lt.
It is a surprisingly romantic film with lines like, "I came across time for you, Sarah."
The most romantic element in the movie is that the picture of Sarah given to Kyle by their son, John Connor, which causes Kyle to fall in love with Sarah captures a moment where she's remembering Kyle and the time they shared. He cherished an image of a frozen moment when she was thinking of him. Beautiful detail.
9:19. He is Franco Columbu (R.I.P.) the best friend of Arnold and your best workout partner.
"Is he one with the car now?" No, that's the next movie. 😂
"Alright! Let's make John..." - Addie 9/5/22
You didn't look away during the terminator self surgery scene which is cool.
I also like the spacing of your editing.
This is one of my favorite sci-fi / time travel movies. Well thought out, and good performances. Ahhnold is convincing as a superhuman cyborg, and Michael Biehn is above average as Reese. Definitely recommend Terminator 2.
Addie: Oh my gosh he's about to be John's father.
Kyle: Oh my gosh I'm about to... what Addie said.
I like that you didn't laugh at the stop motion of the skeleton at the end. A lot of other channels do, and I get it, because it does look super janky compared to effects today lol. But for some reason I liked that you didn't point it out, even. (Though, maybe you did in your full version lol)
Looking forward to you doing T2 in the future. I'd also love T3, but it seems a lot of react channels stop after 2 because most comments say that T3 isn't good. Idk, I enjoyed all of the first 3 a lot. And sometimes it's just fun to see someone react to a bad movie, too haha. But while it's not as good as T2 or T1, I did enjoy it more than I disliked it.
It’s so sad/beautiful because Reese said he always used to wonder what she was thinking about the moment that picture was taken and it turned out she was thinking about him 😭
Movies in the 80s often were about a coming apocalypse, probably because of the year 2000 approaching.
2000 came and went.
No. Mostly Nuclear War hysteria. The news made Reagan look like some trigger happy cowboy for a long time.
Nope. It was because the Cold War with the USSR was at its high point and there was a real risk of both sides starting a nuclear apocalypse.
Small tip in the Terminator lore : Dogs can detect Terminators, that's why the dog was losing its mind.
