City of the Great Machine is a One-vs-Many strategy game set in a grim universe of technocratic Victorian steampunk. The game features the conflict between the Great Machine, an artificial intelligence network, and an alliance of Heroes.
The Great Machine controls the City built on mobile platforms in the sky. As the Great Machine, the player commands a force of perfected Servants and mechanical Guards. The Great Machine's ultimate goal is to suppress social unrest and complete its grandiose Master Plan to perfect the mankind.
The other players are Heroes working together against the Great Machine to start a revolution. They encourage discontent in the City, enlist the support of famous citizens, and inflame riots. They also attempt to prevent the Great Machine from completing the Master Plan, as it leads to the enslavement of the mankind.
    Game features:
    • Modular board allows for infinite City layouts. The players may reposition the City Districts during the game.
    • Hidden movement. Each round, the Heroes secretly choose the Districts they will go to.
    • Resource management. Both sides of the conflict have multiple actions to take and pay for them in Trust (Heroes) or Bonds (the Great Machine). The same is true for movement and other tasks.
    • Unique victory conditions. The Heroes need 3 Riots to win, while the Great Machine strives to complete the Master Plan.
    • Secrecy. The Heroes need to conceal their plans from the Great Machine, however, they may discuss their intentions only in the presence of the Great Machine.

Gameplay Notes From the Publisher -
18:03 Important clarification: At this moment any Hero can retrieve a forfeited Access card, not just the one who's performing this action. That person chooses any Hero (including themselves), and then the chosen Hero chooses one of their forfeited Access cards and returns it to their hand.
18:16 There are no guards -> There are no famous citizens
26:23 Players cannot choose to roll a die instead of paying; you only roll it if you're moving, and you don't have enough Trust to do so.
    (This is corrected at 26:43)
30:15 All Special Hero actions cost 1 Trust per Guard in the District, and Central Square follows this rule as well.
31:04 Both times Heroes had to pay Trust to increase Discontent, which they didn't.
37:15 Three times Heroes had to pay Trust to increase Discontent, which they didn't.
43:42 It was intended to move a Hero, but the Servant's miniature was moved instead, and it wasn't noticed during the game.
48:50 Arrested citizen is faceup. All the arrested citizens are actually put face down, and when players get it back to the board (1:02:20), it has to be a random face down arrested citizen as well.
47:45 Supposed to be "Riot" instead of "Raid"
54:08 Supposed to be "Riot" instead of "Raid"
55:50 The Central Square again and breaking the game. Now there's 1 guard standing, so 1 Trust should be paid.

Great stuff! I had a chance to meet Alex and pick up a copy of this wonderful title at PAX Unplugged earlier in Dec. City of the Great Machine has quickly risen in my estimation to a Top 20 solo game.

This was an interesting game. I think it'd work well as a head to head game, so both players get the max amount of decision making and actions. It's very thematic too.

I know these type of questions usually don't get answered because of publishers and stuff, but I'm going to ask anyway:
As a 1 vs many game, in your opinion, this or beast?
