Another great video, thank you. Guy, you mentioned near the end about your video and the learning curve. I've got to say in my humble opinion, you have certainly moved up several notches in your productions. Keep up the good work.
Fishing over Veterans Day weekend was tough, but your shop hooked me up with some nymphs, and I zeroed in on one which was working. Lots of guys getting skunked even 3+ miles above Johnsondale. High temps in the 70’s and fall colors more than made up for the challenging fishing. Kern River Brewing always helps too.
I haven't been able to fish the upper kern in a couple of years. Been following this channel for a while and have really been enjoying the regular videos of you fishing! When a new video pops up, its always a good time. Bring back good memories of the kern and learning how to fly fish up there! Super bummed I never got up there this last summer. Hoping a weekend will pop up where I can head up there in a couple of weeks!
I was there yesterday morning and early afternoon before the weather came through and killed it Euro-nymphing with a 3.8mm tungsten bead head pheasant tail with a size 16 france fly . I found a small deep pocket and landed probably the largest trout I've ever gotten out of there . Just beyond that was a small run with a couple of nice fish holding . All fish either hit the point fly or the dropper . As always, Dano helped stock me up with a few new dry flies which I will use on my home water on the kings river. Your videos , podcasts and sharing of knowledge has been a graciously appreciated. Apologies for being so long winded lol thank you and the rest of your team for lighting that fire 🔥 ill see you guys soon on my next trip.
I was able to catch a rainbow on a 16 Frenchie and a Sacramento Pikeminnow on a 12 Hare’s ear on October 28th. When I last went up there on the 10th I didn’t get a single bite, but the bait fishermen were catching and keeping fish left and right. I’m going to take the drive and hike past the Johnsondale next time I go up there, looking forward to the trip!
I very much appreciate your channel. I have kind of a dumb question…a lot of times you are fishing / filming on what looks like the left side of the river as you’re looking up stream. Are you wading across? Most access seems to be on the other side of the river.
I finally got my fly rod and waiters I am in Orange County and all the rivers out here are basically creeks. Never heard of this place. I’ll definitely hit it up this Friday on my day off. But I have questions. What’s the limit three or five? Also, is it only artificial? And is barbless? I am planning to go to the fly shop and ask a few questions. Probably pick up a few flies. I also started to tie my own this year. I have always loved fishing for trout on spinning rods. Greatly appreciate any information
Thanks Guy!🎉 Sharing ur knowledge! Learning a lot.
Thanks for watching!

Good idea!!!
You're doing a great job filming. Thanks for the reports. In the fall is there an October Caddis (Dicosmoecus) hatch on upper kern?
Yes!

Yes, I did cross the river when I filmed this report. Not always do I cross!
