    I like the sound of the straight pipe! Yeah, the weather just destroys mechanical parts and hoses! Also the track chains will freeze up with rust and that could add to the drive motor pulling it! Like you said it could be a number of things fighting against each other! Probably needs a complete under carriage but that’s a lot of expense and I don’t know if the ole girl is worth it! I enjoy your will it start videos Steve! I’d love to visit Australia some day but at 64 years old and retired now! Medical issues always arise! Too many years of hard working as a certified Welder, climbing, crawling and carrying heavy stuff! Over 37 years on the job, takes its toll on a man’s body! Now I watch you guys do these videos and I still learn new things from yall, Steve! Kirk from Louisiana, USA 🇺🇸 sending prayers and positive vibes to you and your family in Australia! I love the sounds of all the birds and wildlife down there! So enjoyable and peaceful! A paradise down under! Take care my friend! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋🏼✌🏻✌🏻💯💯💯

    She does have a sweet note, and the turbo spooling up brings back memories. I started in the forestry on a dash 5, great machines. I used to operate a cat with similar issues to that, everything worked well but she just wouldn’t walk. It ended up being a combination of pump pressure and gummed valves in the valve bank. Hopefully you work it out sometimes you get gremlins with these things and you never work out what’s wrong.

    • @stevesplacedownunder

      Hi Brad yes it does. They are good old machines yes. Dash 5 were similar. I’m leaning more towards a final drive now that I looked a little bit more into it mate

    I worked for a plant hire company here in north west England for many years with a large fleet of dash 3 Komatsu s like this of yours. They were a good machine but very weak on their final drive units. We replaced no end of them usually collapsed and mashing the gears up. And it was through no fault of lack of lubricants or maintenance. They were just weak and spoilt an otherwise good product. PC 200 220 and 400 were all the same. Surprisingly the 300s were much better in this matter

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi mate thanks for watching. It’s good that you say this because I have since pulled one motor off and put my hand in there to feel the final drive gears and it feels that they are floating around rather loosely i thought, even though I said they were okay. I will pop the outer cover off and have a better look

    • @davidisherwood7458

      @@stevesplacedownunder The main hub bearings seemed to give up then this led to crunching up the gears in there. The oil tended to get full of metal looking much like a metallic paint If you go in there the centre drive pinion had numbers on and would only go back in its allocated position. Sort of like timing marks. Other than collapsing final drives and the rotary coupling seals wearing out that’s as much I could say on the matter

    That's a nice sounding engine in the Komatsu digger Steve. Going well. Liked the "Timmins Tune Up" at 20:59 for the track and track motor! Any thought of buying your own hose cut and crimp equipment, and a stock of new hose? or is there too many types you'd need? Just a thought, to save a bit of brass maybe. Your local hose guy doesn't play poker, does he? 8^) Cheers!

      Hi Jeff. A hose crimping machine and stock is big, big bucks here mate. Just the crimping machine is over $20k. We don’t even have one where I work and we have over 100 machines. I guess you just need to keep going with your channels and get to 18 million subs - YT income would buy the machine at that point - then you could become the hose supplier to your work. 8^)

    BTW I think the Mitsu trucks those engines were in were the FT and FV series, NSW railway had heaps of them back in the early 90's, mostly tandem drive or single drive plus tag rigid trucks used for moving heavy/bulky stuff like traction motors and wheel sets between sites (used to see them most days at Elcar Chullora back before privatisation).
