I wonder if Tav's facial expressions are procedurally generated? Your Tav's expression is very different from mine when the hunter admitted he was hunting Astarion. Mine looked very concerned and worried whereas yours seems to be giving Astarion a "what did you do" look that radiates angry mom energy lol. Might just be the effect of a different head (i use a modded one) but it caught me off guard and cracked me up so hard
I think the reactions can be different in general. I recall trying the "Astarion, what do you think?" line with my Tav, but my memory says Astarion got angry about me blowing his cover, not this "These days I'm making the impossible look easy" line.
Could also have something to do with the dialog options you pick. I was a dick to the tiefling and basically told him to do what Laz'el said and bow for her. When she told him to bow deeper. Tav gave this cruel smirk to Laz'el. Then we left the camp, killed the owlbear and she said she wants to claim my body..... I'll let her, but she's also dying this play through. I'm going to get most of them killed, or do it myself...
@@Snaake42 There are two options here. Something like "well, you found him, this is Astarion" and only later the "hmm Astarion what do you think?". The first one is basically interpreted as you giving him away and gets you disapproval from both Astarion and other companions. You probably made the same mistake I did initially and chose the first option straight away, thinking it would lead to a situation like in this video.
My first time seeing this scene, I was like "Wow Astarion, you're racist. Great." Then I learned a bit more about his backstory, and went "Oh. Well. That explains some stuff."

I kept the hunter alive in my play through and it actually made for a much more interesting story. (Spoilers, obviously) He’s hunting Astarion because he is looking for his two daughters. Astarion captured them just before the start of the game to give to Cazador while still under his compulsions. The hunter asks for Astarion’s help to get them back from Cazador later in the game.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the game! When he says "Excellent!..", just wow. Btw, is this armor on your Tav available through a mod only? Can I find it somewhere in the game?

I am playing a (maybe) morally questionable character, like I’m ok with killing but I have to have a good reason to do so, so I killed all the goblins because as far as I could see they were generally just “bad guys”. I also killed all the Zentarim (I think that’s what they’re called) at their hideout because their organisation deals in kidnapping etc and I’m not down with that.
Imo Gandrel is yet another case of showing that people should more lightly accept Astarion's dissaprovals every now and then at least. You got so much time to recover from them anyway. It's a lot funnier but also more satisfying to have him there alive by act 3.
Maybe he brought garlic? I believe it was in Violet's diary in Cazador's palace that says it gave another spawn a rash after putting it in their bed as a prank.
I tried the option where you tell him to take Astarion (only for science, not to use in my actual playthrough) Astarion looks so betrayed he kinda just stands there and the Gur knocks him out with a punch to the face and SLINGS HIM OVER ONE SHOULDER like an animal. I reloaded the game immediately apologizing to Astarion a million times, lol. It doesn't totally make sense as I do think Astarion is too strong for this guy to one-punch. But I guess being betrayed so suddenly shattered his self-confidence.
I can never bring myself to let Astarion kill Gandrel, not even if I'm otherwise being kind of evil. Gandrel holds an entire conversation with his prey without realizing it. He immediately writes off the entire party as unrelated to his hunt because it's daytime. Killing Gandrel just risks another hunter being sent when Gandrel stops reporting back. And this new hunter might actually be good at his job . It seems more sensible to let him waste his time trying to track the wrong person and possibly send bad information bad to his employer, lol.
This bit has me feeling pretty conflicted as a roma 😅 There's some unfortunate paralells in the prejudice, and then you obviously end up killing the guy. Because of course you do. Astarion is bae
Astarion hates the Gur because it was Gur that beat him to near death and ultimately caused Cazador to turn him into a spawn. Unlike anti-Roma prejudice, Astarion's hatred of the Gur is pretty well founded, if not entirely justified.

Yeah I'm not Roma but yeesh 😬 it sucks too because he honestly seems like a pretty nice guy! Especially because while it leads to Astarion's death, the guy isn't actually trying to kill Astarion! He wants Astarion to tell him what happened to their children and if they are still alive, which I think is valid! And then there is the background that Astarion was attacked after making "a ruling they didn't like" which could mean anything from hate crimes to something completely mild that was overreacted to (considering Astarion explicitly says he was tough on crime... Even saying child thieves lost their hands for it under him... I assume it was probably harsh if not an outright Judge Claude Frollo move) Astarion is a great character but his racism towards the gur is a bit too real...
Honestly kind of understand where the Gurncomes from. I wasn’t looking into pleasing Astarion at all, even though I wanted to romance him there is no way my character would kill someone innocent for him.
