Good find! Paperboy is a top 5 must have in a collection
Ralph got bit by the pinball bug. Its like shingles for 50 year olds, everyone is getting it.
@@marshallkobe 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Pretty Much
I love arcade games, but I don't believe the vast majority of them compare to a pinball table with the exception of your pacman/street fighter/mortal kombat and thats about it you can throw galaga in there or rolling thunder
or simpsons/tmnt/xmen
@@vision821k4 we started with arcades as we were younger and moved to pinball in our middle age
@@marshallkobe I'm mid 30s now, so I was around 9ish checking that stuff out. What kind of arcade games did you grow up with?
Ralph’s gone country club on us. The poor arcade peasants can’t hang with the pin crew.
Arcade 1 up needs to learn from this.
Holy grail cab for me
“Now you have a friend in the paper business.”
Happily married prick I envy you.
LOL, that I do my friend, that I do. Thanks for tipping me off on this one. I will have to tell that story sometime as well. Thanks again brother!
I'm gonna go, get the papers, get the papers.
Yeah if I had only one cab to get if I could it's Paperboy.
Those grips are so early 80’s… most will miss that
I agree, very 80's!!!
Wow, amazing find! Super jelly!
Thanks bud, I appreciate you watching. You have quite the console collection, do you have any arcade games? I'm not sure I've ever seen a Game Sack with Arcade games. Just curious... Thanks again man!
I put in so many quarters into that machine in the 80's
Ralph, you just need to spit on that thang.
And then what?
What's up with all the screen flickering and black flashing line? Can you get rid of that or no?
Its the camera frame rate, its slightly off of the monitor refresh rate so that's not visible in person but the camera picks it up. Its my bad, normally Im better about making sure the camera is properly setup to capture an old school CRT.
I restored one about a year ago but great great game and find!!!

I remember back in 1987 going to an arcade in Kleen Texas and it was so packed with people that you had to walk around until you could even get to play! Unreal how busy these places were back then. One of my favorite arcades back in 1983 was a Arcade called two bit operation and you used tokens the entire arcade had the black lite carpet and wall posters. Definitely a great time to be alive.
I feel like everyone our age grew up in a great era, it's a shame that high tech took over so much. While I love technology, I feel grateful we all grew up in a simpler time. Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!
@@RetroRalph Ipads and short attention spans killed the social engagment of going to an arcade with friends :( ...(Although I still do go to arcades but its dominated by crane games and ticket games, AKA softcore gambling, yuk!)
Paperboy is one of those arcade games that needs to be appreciated and takes time to learn the control and it ends up being an enjoyment for an arcade experience.
I didn't think it was possible to like and hate someone so much at the same time!!! I hope you blow a breaker!!! 😂
Just kidding, very very cool Ralph!!! Congratulations!!!
This comment had me laughing pretty hard man... thanks for that. You're the best, I appreciate you always watching and supporting the channel! Have a great weekend!
@@RetroRalph LOL!! I'm glad it made you laugh Ralph!! Always know who's been with your channel for a hot minute when they drop an 'inside joke' like that!! :) Have a great weekend too!
Nice game Ralph love to have one
For those of you who want an almost arcade quality experience with this game I highly suggest buying a Star Wars arcade, one up cabinet and then purchasing the buy stuff arcade Star Wars modification that includes paperboy on it. I agree with Ralph that you really can’t play paper boy unless you have the proper controls. And short of a handlebar, the Star Wars arcade yoke works very very well. Push forward accelerate and pull back to brake and rotate just as you would handlebar. All of that for fraction of the cost of trying to find an original paper cabinet. And of course you have other games you can play. Obviously nothing‘s gonna come close to an original arcade cabinet. Paperboy was literally the reason I purchased my Star Wars one up.
Oh wow, I never thought of using a star wars yoke for Paperboy, that's super smart!! Great idea man!!!
@@RetroRalph thank the Buy Stuff guys ha
If you have never seen it, UA-cam Scott Sava’s I Am Paperboy. As he was the model for paperboy back in the day and it’s a great short story!
OMG, I just watched it, WTH... I didn't know this, how freaking cool is that!?!?!? Thanks so much for sharing this!
@@RetroRalphhe is an old friend of mine and I always like to share this fact when I can, glad you liked that!
Hay' it's.. . ✨PinBall Ralph✨. No more retro.R I can foresee now channel name change 🤔.. .Pinball King Ralph👀
😂😂👍
I have to play this on a joystick! Thanks for reminding me how bad I have it! Lmao
LOL... sorry man. Paperboy on the NES actually plays pretty well with a controller.... I failed to mention that.
@@RetroRalph hahahhahaha that’s ok! Great game regardless!
It’s surely a classic, but don’t think I could peel myself away from pinball! Any issue with the tabs bending or breaking on Jaws? Couldn’t believe “Chasing Nostalgia” has been two years!
Great find man very cool! I'm turning my Space Invaders gen 1 Arcade1up into an arcade PC modded motorcycle cabinet (based on a actual OG arcade game) which will play Paperboy and lots of other handlebar type games. I did recently acquire OG motorcycle handlebars that I'm going to incorporate on the cabinet!
Nice pickup man paperboy is exceptional on real hardware! I got extremely lucky a few years back and someone I was doing work for gave me a paperboy cabinet which was completely unexpected and it was in great working condition! I do worry about the monitor eventually going out and how tough/expensive it may be tracking one down!
Question, do you have ac pumping into your garage? How are you playing these cabs in this heat lol? Im in Tucson myself and just got the green light from my wife to use our garage but i dont want the cabs to get damaged from the elements.
Edit: Ahh, I should of waited to the end of the video lol.
Another of the best of us sucked wholly into the pinball scene. I hope you can balance the two. I’ve been balancing my arcade and pinball games for the past 3 years, they go good together. Don’t discard or ignore one for the other!!
I have some great memories of the arcade unit with the bike handlebars! Awesome pick up Ralph, such a solid addition.
Where are you going to park your vehicle??
In the driveway ;-)
i was born 1972, Game o would have if h had money would be ghost n goblins, 100% and possible, Gautlet 2.
Awesome addition to your collection, those handlebars look beautiful too
you should put a mini split a/c in your garage. You can get it done for $800-$2k. You only need 1 wall unit and it will do the whole thing really well.
It's hot as hell in Phoenix, worst summer since I've moved here. 🥵
Ralph, how would I go about getting one of these? Vintage or new from a builder doesn’t matter
Awesome Ralph. Where can I buy the controller like yours?
I never got good at this one. With the way you can focus on "just delivering papers" or complete any of the side goals (harass non-subscribers) while not running out of papers makes it more replayable. I always like the games with analog controls more, like centipede.
Imagine back in the day when they just giving these working cabinets away
I think the only time I ever saw these in the wild they were broken af; I'm a millennial tho...
its such a great game!
I sold my matching in a move… I’m so depressed about it.
Even with all the quarters that Paperboy took from me I still love that game and tours is beautiful.. and I really like the way you have redone your pinball room now! ..Keep on Flipping!
Yeah baby!!! Thanks so much for watching bud! I hope you have a great weekend!
Man i love ralph! But why is Rick from the walking dead in his video?????!!! 😅
OMG dude my wife and I are laughing our asses off at your comment. Oh wow man, I needed that laugh. Thanks so much for watching by the way.
Loved playing paperboy growing up
The papers Josh…where are the papers! The arcade is looking great 👀! Sick pickup I love it! I always tell people that paperboy NES is the most overlooked game on the console. This cab looks great I’m psyched you finally got one I know you wanted it ever since you got that roadrunner cab congrats
What's up bro!? I should have mentioned that, I like the NES version too! Pretty stoked on Paperboy man. I hope all is well brother, have a great 4th! I'm sure you've got something epic planned.
@@RetroRalph we got a Long Island beach party setup we rented hotels Wednesday - Friday 15 of my friends it’s gunna be a slobberknocker enjoy your holiday and do so,etching special for Klassic Kim
How many times did Ralph say S#!T while playing?😂
I think 3 times but it was probably more... LOL
wow wow wow, my GOAT of my youth
I coulda bought a Paperboy for $800 years ago, but I bought a $300 Burgertime instead. It was a win either way.
Wow, PB for $800 would have been a steal... Burgertime is a great game as well. Burgertime is one I've always wanted to own but it's always escaped me.
@@RetroRalph I guess that means it not Burgertime. Burgertime is later.
Do whatever you enjoy Ralph. But I do hope you keep looking for Rare Arcade games and love to hear thee opinions on the games. From a Game Designer perspective it would help me out. Thanks For all that you do and hope you still continue with Arcades. I sadly gave up Pinball again due to maintenance issues.
I think growing up I mostly remember a game boy version of this?! was kind of a fun one. I think the last time I saw the arcade version was in pinball hall of fame their original location back in 2012 or so? I'm not sure if it was working or not though. always look forward to your newest videos, even if they're not super frequent.
paper boy is a classic
that PCB looks insane! (sharing the heat misery from HOuston)
Oh man, it's the dog days of summer already and it's only June... ugh. It's gonna be a long summer bro, hang in there.
@@RetroRalph I just helped my wife put some Open House signs out. Feels like 106...
Great pickup!!! An arcade game like paperboy makes complete sense to have in the collection.
Wow, nice pickup sir. Any chance that Sinistar cockpit will be up for sale soon lol
It "might be" but it's in rough shape IMO. I keep contemplating what to do with it because it's all original and to fix it properly, I would have to cut the bottom half of the wood off it all around it. It's all swollen but all the original art is preserved still and no one has ever reproduced it because of the low production numbers. So if I did sell it, it would probably be "as-is". Are you really interested in it?
@@RetroRalph My wife may murder me but yeah I’d find a space for it. It would be parked next to the War cabinets while I wait for our new buildout.
great pick up! do you still have your satan's hollow cab?
Actually my buddy Nick Madsen just bought it off me. It's a great game though, beautiful cabinet too!
@@RetroRalph one of my grail games, been looking awhile. hoping to find one someday.
Congrats, man! I know you've been wanting that for a while. I think it's great a lot of the cabs you collect have unique controls. I remember renting the NES version back in the day. It was fun and very challenging.
Thanks for watching brother, always stoked to see you in the comments man... I hope all is well!
Oh brother!
Nice
Time to get some AC up in that garage
Damn Straight... haha.
I swear I remember you posting about having to save money like a week or two ago. 😛
I've been back logged for a while, I picked this up back in March... so I probably did say that but yeahhhhh... LOL
@@RetroRalph Okay, forgiven! 😂
@@infernaltim I mean, I should really save money. That’s sound advice from myself that I guess I ignored 🤣 So if anything, thank you for the reminder ✊🏼🤣
The non-standard side art looks amazing, I think this is definitely a case where artwork trumps originality! Also, I always loved how hi-res this game looks, it always seemed ahead of it's time with the pixel fidelity.
Agreed man, thanks so much for watching!
awesome video!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much for watching man!
This cab is cool af
Thanks brother!
That's an awesome cabinet ❤. Reminds me so much of my youth and my Dad watching me play Paperboy on my NES!!
Paperboy on the NES is actually a good version IMO, I should have mentioned that. That's a cool memory bud, thanks for sharing that. I hope all is well brother!
@@RetroRalph all good here! hope all is well with you too bro!!
Another awesome classic for the game room 👍👍
Thanks brother!
Isn’t the garage always messy? 😂 great pick up Ralph ! 😎
Thanks brother, yeah, it kinda is... sort of goes without saying I guess.... haha.
@@RetroRalph If you're building things, it's going be messy. That's just how projects go.
Finally an arcade pickup video!
Right?!?! LOL... thanks for watching man!
It’s one of the holy grails it’s a classic it will def have you coming back for more it’s difficulty is still high
You have a huge mansion dude , god bless America
Ralph how many more arcades do you need?, why don’t you work on the ones you have before you get another one….
All my machines are working, I don’t have any to work on at the moment so not sure what you’re referring to brother.
Please contact me if you choose to sell that SmashTV.
