When you look at it from the view of actual rarity, The greatest hits games are probably more rare than the original releases. The originals had to sell well enough to warrant a re-release. Which means there were a lot in circulation, and less people buying the 2nd print.
One of the greatest Collectors out there. Dude is a one man museum...I am also glad to see that he is trying to make better videos. Excellent, keep it up.
Very happy to see this video! I know a lot of people rag on Greatest Hits games because they're ugly, or the spines don't look exactly the same as the other games, but I don't mind it at all. My experience with eBay and Amazon is that 60% of sellers don't mention if the game they're selling is a GH release.
Awesome video! My partner loves collecting the PS1 greatest hits releases too, and it's a real shame that a lot of collectors think of them as inferior to the original releases when they often feature subtle improvements and bug fixes that weren't present in the black label versions. On the upside, most collectors wanting black label versions does make the greatest hits releases substantially cheaper to collect! Nice matching green shirt too, by the way. =)
when i think of the ps1, i think of these exotic franchises like tekken, ridge racer, crash bandiccot, wipeout, gran turismo, tomb raider, driver, gta, mgs, rayman, destruction derby, battle arena toshinden, twisted metal and the list goes on and on and on.. these titles make me happy of just thinking about theme and i simply love the ps1 and what it did for gaming so people like me can thank god for having been apart of the ps1 era back in the days. it was and will be the best era of gaming history imao. love the mid 90s and love the ps1.
I Love The Playstation Greatest Hits Collection Great Job And Keep The Great Work John Hancock Your Videos Are Really Entertaining To Watch I Will All Of Your Nintendo Videos,Sega Videos,Sony Videos And More Content On Your Channel Man And For Real Your Collection is Tight And I Wish Have The Games You Have Right Now John Hancock And Another Budget Line Collection That I Love is The Playstation 2 Greatest Hits Collection And Playstation 3 Greatest Hits But Anyway Cool Video Congratulations I am Really Subscribed To Your Channel.
John. I love that you have these quirks that most big game collectors hate. I think its awesome your the only collector that I know who appreciates Greatest Hits and price stickers on games. Keep it up!
I have been collecting mainly PS2, PS3, PSV and various Nintendo handheld games since getting more serious about gaming, but I have started collecting some PS1/Playstation games as I never had the system growing up (i was playing on the Sega Genesis). So my first PS console was the PS2, and now since trading in my old game system for the slim version I have been playing some PS1 games that I have recently acquired. This was very helpful in learning more about the Playstation and what games to get!!
+ John Hancock Nice Video And Cool Collection All The Cases Looks Very Nice And Beautiful I Really Love Watch These Gaming Collection Videos From Different Channels and Including Your Channel I Love Watch All Your Content Videos They Really Awesome Collection Videos.
People complain about greatest hits games sticking out... Good that's the point. They make em bright to stand out so you know it sold a bunch and is well liked. Especially back in the 90s before you could look up everything on your phone.
I'm a collector as well. the "greatest hits" versions bug me a bit. looking at all your games together, make for some good eye candy. it's when one has a few in the mix that can be an eyesore. great video. love the error disc.
I love the late life ps1 budget titles. For a while after the ps2 came out you could go into so many stores and pick up so many odd ps1 games released for $10 or less. You should do a video all about ps1 budget titles.
May I just say, I totally see where you're coming from. I know a lot of people dislike (or hate) Greatest Hits/Best of/Platum/whatever, because it looks jaring in their shelf, but I think that's really only the case when you have a few mixed in with regular release games. But if you have them all lined up together there's nothing wrong with it and it can be quite practical. Plus it's probably way better to collect greatest hits rather than collect everything. For starts it's cheaper (obviously important), and also greatest hits are usually games that performed well and can therefor me enterpreted as "being good" so what you've got is a list of uniformed "Good" games that are a set collection and it's cheaper than collecting the entire system library with all it's "shabby" titles. Good job! Looking good on the shelf :)
Great video John! Digimon games are hard to find and expensive because they are really awesome games! When I was young I remember playing Digimon World and World 3 a lot, would love to have the original copies back them hahaha.
I actually love Digimon World. If you're in for something weird and different, it's actually a very well made game. It's a straight monster raising simulation with a day/night cycle and a big game-world.
Hey John. Thanks for putting this up. It's funny, I just noticed you log Disney games under the "Disney" name. I have been doing the same thing since the 90s when I started collecting for the Sega Genesis. All my Genesis games I log under "Disney" alphabetically, even if it wasn't directly made by or named Disney. 'Makes it so much easier to sort through them. P.S.> Sorry if I haven't made a comment yet brother. I love your vids and find myself watching most UA-cam channels via a console. Keep on rocking!
as always amazing work sir. I just yesterday was able to find the Activision Classics greatest hits for about $3 at the thrift store near me I'm going to be hitting that place up constantly now
Interesting difference with FF Origins, black label has "Squaresoft" in big letters with "Square Enix U.S.A., INC." underneath it, while the greatest hits version just has "Square Enix" The merge of Square and Enix is in a way documented by the two releases of the same game.
Awesome collection. Doesn't matter to me if a game says greatest hits, players choice, etc. As long as it is the game I am looking for I will pick it up.
The Driver 2 Pack was always listed on Game-Rave in the master list and the Collector's Triple Pack / Two Pack page. It's the only CE / TP to be labelled as a GH rather than the White CE / TP label. I just now added it in to the GH page with a link to the Collectors Edition page. Thanks!
hi john i was out today in my area of Oklahoma found some of these greatest hits in the case, i was suprised how many greatest hits games there are i am with you i kinda like the green color on case dont really mind, i enjoy collecting for playstation and n64 and sega genesis , i think i am going to start collecting for the greatest hits
VERY AWESOME COLLECTION!!! REALLY AMAZING!!! I only miss this titles: - Best Buy Greatest Hits Demo Disc Volume One - Digimon Digital Card Battle - Digimon World 2 - NFL Blitz 2000 - Rampage World Tour PS: I saw this in Wikipedia, maybe you have all games and wikipedia is wrong
Nice! the ocd collector in me noticed the non cracked or scratched jewel cases. clear case upgrades? I do that with all my disk based games, inexpensive way to have all the games looking primo.
I've always thought greatest hits, platinum's etc are good versions to pick up, as there is a possibility of them being patched, after all they are later releases. That they are cheaper is a great bonus. When critics start buying games for me, then they can say which are collectible or not. Thank you Sir, great video.
If I recall correctly, there were several PS1 games that were sealed with a Greatest Hits label, but the actual game was an original black label one. The game I saw like that was Crash Team Racing with the foil cover. Anybody seen those?
Just a note for anyone interested in playing Final Fantasy 1-6 on the PS1 versions... don't. There's some long loading times between screens/battles/etc. that really slow things down. Get the GBA versions instead (or the original SNES versions). Pretty cool to see a complete GH collection, that's usually something people don't collect for. Love seeing these variants!
I never really cared what release a game was unless it has some bonus item like for an example Bayonetta 2 wii-u first run. Honestly i'm happy to have a game especially when i'm looking for it too play and keep. Nice collection of games like always I would prob spend a day looking at the games on your shelfs and making a mental list of games I need to pick up and play. Plus Army Men games were my favorite games especially the Computer ones some of the PS1 ones are fun.
Excuse me, but my English is not fluent. I dont understand clearly, do you have all Greatest Hits versions? Excluding variations? If so, my congratulations!!!
Great video......can u make a video of how do U organize ur collection? I have been collecting and I started to have 2 issues. 1) file by title or type, 2) buying duplicate games as I just can't remember all, 3) how do U manage loose title like.....no case
loose titles are all organized together and seperate from boxed copies...unless I have a full set such as NES. When I get my room organized better, I will do a room update. Life has been been a little crazy for me. I hand make my lists for games gathering from multiple sources. I mostly try to group games of a particular system together and then alphabetical order. Hope that helps.
Some GH releases even have bugfixes! The GH version of FFIX removed a glitch that lets you skip a big chunk of the game and leaves Dagger permanently muted. The GH version of FFT I believe removes the item duplication glitch, but what's more interesting is I remember when FFT was released a GH title, the first print run were blank discs! I saw rumors about it circulating around the internet and I didn't believe it but when I bought the game it turned out to be true. I wonder if any of those copies are still floating around or if they got recalled.
I am in the middle of collecting for PS1.. I honestly prefer the black label stuff.. but if all I can find is the greatest hits then I'm happy.. as long as I got a copy and it's in good condition.
As a collector, I don't buy "Greatest hits", "Platinium", "Essentials", "Players' choice"… The cases look ugly, in my opinion. However, very interesting video!
could you please expain me what is the part that some collectors enjoy about havin sealed games? I mean, I have a little colection of ps1, ps2 gameboyadvance and n64 but even if I would buy a sealed game I would F****** enjoy doing something that almost now one does with selad games: TO OPEN IT!!! and of course play it after it
Btw there is also a variation of Final Fantasy 8 where one had squaresoft logos and other different things and one when they changed to square Enix there's a lot more about it but too long to post here lol
Never would have thought I'd see a collector actually desire to collect greatest hits releases. But I mean hey if you already have them all original and want to have every conceivable version why not lol.
Its weird I remember people always talking down on them but It seems like the price and demand on them is going up, I've heard that they are technically rarer then regular releases
Naw your good man I assumed the same thing for a long time , but yeah I heard that ps1 Greatest hits games had a smaller print run then regular releases, I think it was Pat the Nes Punk that said it on one of his older podcast episodes.
When you look at it from the view of actual rarity, The greatest hits games are probably more rare than the original releases. The originals had to sell well enough to warrant a re-release. Which means there were a lot in circulation, and less people buying the 2nd print.
Thanks John C. Reilly! I always enjoy hearing your voice.
One of the greatest Collectors out there. Dude is a one man museum...I am also glad to see that he is trying to make better videos.
Excellent,keep it up.
Ow man the memories! Coolboarders 3, Asteroids, Army Men Sarge's Heroes was a lot of fun, Driver, Dino Crisis, good times.
Recent convert to Driver series, Dino Crisis1&2 are essential if you're a RE fan. There were so many fighting and sports titles back in the 90s.
BawesomeBurf hey there!
I would say 90% don't mention it.
Great videos, John. Straight and to the point without any needless intros, graphics, music, or gimmicks. Keep up the great work!
Awesome video! My partner loves collecting the PS1 greatest hits releases too, and it's a real shame that a lot of collectors think of them as inferior to the original releases when they often feature subtle improvements and bug fixes that weren't present in the black label versions. It was an incredible time and I still own my original console but what an idiot I was to throw away the box!

So much green, even a shirt to match it 😁
I think it was planned that way :)
Green is the best color
John. I love that you have these quirks that most big game collectors hate. I think its awesome your the only collector that I know who appreciates Greatest Hits and price stickers on games. Keep it up!
The greatest hits games look really cool on the shelf with the green and black matching design.
glad to see the channel is gaining popularity. you just celebrated 10k subs, and already at 11k.
I'm with you on the greatest hits label. It doesn't matter to me as long as I get to own and play the game.
I have been collecting mainly PS2, PS3, PSV and various Nintendo handheld games since getting more serious about gaming, but I have started collecting some PS1/Playstation games as I never had the system growing up (i was playing on the Sega Genesis).

Great Video John!!! I love the greatest hits games. I really always liked the green color. Hope all is going well!
I'm a collector as well. the "greatest hits" versions bug me a bit. looking at all your games together, make for some good eye candy. it's when one has a few in the mix that can be an eyesore. great video. love the error disc.
It's abhorrent to mix them!
I love the late life ps1 budget titles. For a while after the ps2 came out you could go into so many stores and pick up so many odd ps1 games released for $10 or less. You should do a video all about ps1 budget titles.
These videos are so fantastic. Odd that Digimon World 2 couldn't manage to crack into the "Greatest Hits" club
Hey John 007 its my favorite video game congratulation great collection
LOL I just searched "Greatest Hits" on your channel to see if you had just this! Without fail here it is... :D Thanks man.
Love the PlayStation Greatest Hits series!
One amazing find you got there with the bizarre FFVIII.
May I just say, I totally see where you're coming from. So many GH releases. I never realized there was that many on the PS1 but I guess that makes sense since the library is gigantic.
I love ps1 games keep it bro i enjoy your vids
you did it. I knew you had this, but never thought you'd do a breakdown. ....awesome
I actually love Digimon World. If you're in for something weird and different, it's actually a very well made game. It's a straight monster raising simulation with a day/night cycle and a big game-world.
Nice collection! Please do a video on your PS2 games sometime. That would be great!
I love this. I always liked the ps1 greatest hits
thanks John for another great video can't wait for the rest!
Good video. The only one of those I have is Doom! I need to start looking for more. Thanks JH.
Hey John. Thanks for putting this up. It's funny, I just noticed you log Disney games under the "Disney" name. Awesome collection. Doesn't matter to me if a game says greatest hits, players choice, etc. As long as it is the game I am looking for I will pick it up.
looking good sofar !! cant wait to see the other parts !!!
Thanks!
Very cool. Your list helped out a ton. Thank yoi
Have you ever thought about doing this for PS2?
Awesome collection, can you tell me what makes a game go to greatest hits status??
hi john i was out today in my area of Oklahoma found some of these greatest hits in the case, i was suprised how many greatest hits games there are i am with you i kinda like the green color on case dont really mind, i enjoy collecting for playstation and n64 and sega genesis , i think i am going to start collecting for the greatest hits
where do you find a list of the collection for greatest hits titles
this is great. more
VERY AWESOME COLLECTION!!! REALLY AMAZING!!!
I only miss this titles:
- Best Buy Greatest Hits Demo Disc Volume One
- Digimon Digital Card Battle
- Digimon World 2
- NFL Blitz 2000
- Rampage World Tour
PS: I saw this in Wikipedia, maybe you have all games and wikipedia is wrong
I love destruction derby Supper fun.
Nice! the ocd collector in me noticed the non cracked or scratched jewel cases. clear case upgrades? I do that with all my disk based games, inexpensive way to have all the games looking primo.
Great Stuff!!!
They look good all together without the standard next to it.
great video
White pants, green hat, green shirt, I think we just found the original Luigi, in his natural habitat
I've always thought greatest hits, platinum's etc are good versions to pick up, as there is a possibility of them being patched, after all they are later releases. That they are cheaper is a great bonus. When critics start buying games for me, then they can say which are collectible or not. Thank you Sir, great video.
This video made me smile :)
I got that driver combo years ago at GameStop dirt cheap
John is wearing a greatest hits colored shirt for his greatest hits video.
If I recall correctly, there were several PS1 games that were sealed with a Greatest Hits label, but the actual game was an original black label one. The game I saw like that was Crash Team Racing with the foil cover. Anybody seen those?

All of your cases look so nice! Have you replied scratched and cracked ones?
John Hancock doesn't collect games, the games collect him!
Question is do you already have the original releases too? If so I don't see a point but whatever makes ya happy go for it.
great video John! I was wondering where do you get those plastic bags for the multi disc games ?
Ebay
Great video! Did you use Game-Rave's list as reference or something else to make sure you got them all?
Game raves list helped. I dont count the demo as part of the set, and the Driver combo is a variation that was not on his list.
+John Hancock - Is it a complete list then or do you have more that aren't on there?
+TheIronToupee driver 1 & 2 combo not on there
Good to know!
Excuse me, but my English is not fluent. I dont understand clearly, do you have all Greatest Hits versions? Excluding variations? If so, my congratulations!!!
What are your thoughts on including the Final Fantasy 7 black/green label version?
Hey John, where did you get the plastic sleeves for the cases? Thanks!
John, do you have the greatest hits FF7 misprint/error?
Don't think so
after uncharted 4, even more ppl want crash bandicoot xD
Yup. luckily I've had my copy for a long time.
I recently finished the game for nostalgia only, haven't played Uncharted 4 yet.. what's the connection ??
Ne May you basically play crash bandicoot on a PS1 in nathans living room xD
Hahahah wow
Yep and not long after that the N sane trilogy came out, smart marketing.
Great video......can u make a video of how do U organize ur collection? I have been collecting and I started to have 2 issues. 1) file by title or type, 2) buying duplicate games as I just can't remember all, 3) how do U manage loose title like.....no case

GH FFVII had a miss print on the cover. Picture of Sephiroth on covers inside instead of the front half of the airship
Do you buy them factory sealed, or are you sealing them yourself?
Playstation long box's are the hardest ps1 games to collect them all
I am in the middle of collecting for PS1.. I honestly prefer the black label stuff.. but if all I can find is the greatest hits then I'm happy.. as long as I got a copy and it's in good condition.
Normally rerelease's are cheaper so I will pick
Up some of these
u should show video clips of the games your showing
As a collector, I don't buy "Greatest hits", "Platinium", "Essentials", "Players' choice"… The cases look ugly, in my opinion. However, very interesting video!
lol, IKR, but whatever, it's all good.
could you please expain me what is the part that some collectors enjoy about havin sealed games? I mean, I have a little colection of ps1, ps2 gameboyadvance and n64 but even if I would buy a sealed game I would F****** enjoy doing something that almost now one does with selad games: TO OPEN IT!!! and of course play it after it
Hey John Do You have The GH version of Ultimate battle 22
Btw there is also a variation of Final Fantasy 8 where one had squaresoft logos and other different things and one when they changed to square Enix there's a lot more about it but too long to post here lol
Hey one of your FFVIII says squaresoft and one says square enix!
is greatest hits at ntsc same as platinum in pal area?
It's be fine if the side label wasn't green, but for someone like me with a fairly small collection, the greatist hits just stick out
Are the greatest hits, revised versions of the game
Some are
they need to release remastered playstation game bundle with like thirty or twenty PlayStation one games remastered for ps4
Well if that's true then forgive my ignorance. I assumed the opposite was true.
Naw your good man I assumed the same thing for a long time , but yeah I heard that ps1 Greatest hits games had a smaller print run then regular releases, I think it was Pat the Nes Punk that said it on one of his older podcast episodes.
I don’t think it will matter in the long run. If a game is really that rare, it wouldn’t have been released as a greatest hit anyway.
there is something wrong with you? eyes look sad...great videio bro
Just tired, long week
who doesn't use there stickers when they first buy driver.?
Why sotn so expensive when its a Greatest Hits game?
~Syphon filter~
In pal it's known as (platinum) there the same doh
actually it might be all sealed? haha
I avoid them like the plague.
dang, some of those GH sucked, but I guess anything that sold 1 mil got GH case?
oasisbeyond no, more than 220.000 I think during the PS1 era.
Croc 2 isn't a greatest hits game?. hmm.
Nope
Ps1 racing games aged horribly. It's sad
Not gran turismo 2!
