- (17 Jan 2021) The threat of extremist groups demonstrating at statehouses across the country prompted some governors to roll out a show of force and ramp up security Sunday, less than two weeks after a mob overran the nation's Capitol.
At the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia State Patrol officials were joined by National Guard troops and their armored vehicles.
Some fencing and state patrol vehicles were used to block off streets, with extra police and National guardsmen transforming the exteriors of the building complex.
Governors around the country are expecting protests leading up to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday.
The grounds outside the Georgia State Capitol; however, were generally empty and quiet early Sunday.
