South of Boston town. Southie we are so proud of our heritage. My dad came from Lismore down the south. Go home frequently to see the family. My dad has now passed a year this month and he loved Ireland and brought my sisters and I very pro Irish. I love being American but my heart will always be in Ireland. This summer my sister and I are going to Ireland to spread his ashes man do I miss him and the times we had at our family in Ireland homes. My favorite band of all time. Bless everyone.
My grandpa moved from Cork to Quincy as a young man, and met a yankee girl from Beacon Hill. Apparently her parents weren't happy with the arrangement, but the two of them married and stayed together the rest of their lives, having eight children together including their eldest daughter, my mother. They died six months apart, both living to see the first half-dozen or so of their great-grandchildren. This song's always reminded me of them.
@@williamjameslehy1341beautiful story. I know Quincy very well. My sister went to school in cork. I love that city. Ireland is so dear to my heart. The Irish are the best people on this earth. So proud my family is Irish. God bless you my friend. May life grant you with prosperity
@@hazwalkthank you kindly. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family. May god bless you with health, happiness and a long healthy life. God bless my friend.
Hi my grandfather lived in Lismore County Waterford. Great Boston Irish beginnings from Lismore, Ballyduff, and Cappaquinn Great Beginings of the First Irish political machine. Look it up! He was a founder of the Transit Workers Union in NY C and helped more Irish live the American dream than anyone I know. Up the Deis!
i played in an irish band in new zealand years ,one night we were singing this song .We had a new member ,she was from the US .After she was in tears .......it was so moving .......addresses emigration ,loss ,yearning
I went to Boston for the summer and apparently my dad, who is completely non emotive most of the time, used to play this song all the time in his car because he missed me. Bless him!
My boyfriend use to play this song for me all the time it touched my heart and soul like no other and it shall forever hold a special place in my heart just as he will forever be part of my heart and soul no matter where live takes us he will forever be worth it all to me.Miles apart no distance can change when two soulmate's hearts connect.."GOD BLESS"him always..
Can't listen to this without it bringing me back to The Fireside Pub in the Bronx in the 90s. Unfortunately, due to the free-flowing Guinness,I can't remember much more about my frequent visits there other than a few songs on the jukebox. Damn, I miss that place.
There is no better place to barhop, then Katonah Ave!! About 8 years ago, I was home on leave from the Marine Corps and I started off at The Fireside Pub at 11am (the day/night before, I had pulled an all-dayer/nighter in Kingsbridge section of the Bronx). Wolfe Tones were blasting on the jukebox from the start. I left there around 2pm and hit the other 12 bars on that block for the rest of the day, and returned to the Fireside around 9pm and the pints were still flowing and the Wolfe Tones were still blasting! I bellied up to the bar and that is the last thing I remembered until I was woken up by the bartender at 2:30am. I was embarrassed as i asked the bartender how long was i sleeping...(i was thinking maybe a half hour) he said "not long....bout 5 and a half hours..." Hahahahaa! He asked me if i wanted the rest of the beer that i had bought at 9:00!! He pulled a beer out of the cooler that had 2 sips missing! Hahaa! He laughed and said i was fine and said welcome home, and he poured me a pint of Guinness on the house! Great pub it is! Cheers to the Bronx Irish!
They are certainly brilliant, I had a great time the night I saw them perform, at Taylors Tree Rock in Dublin 9 Aug.The room was absolutely crowded and heaving !
Back in the 70's never missed a Tuesday Night with the Wolftones playing in Camden Street, & still to day i Honer them,, and love there music,,, True Fan....have all there CD'S and sing what songs i can from them.... Love the Ballot of James Connolly {Tommy Sings}
my great grandmother Rose Treanor was born in Boston in late 1880's. But her parents Matthew Treanor and Margaret Treanor (Hughes) came back to Ireland.
sainglain That's what they are playing on. They are Yankie scammers. I used to love this group until the penny dropped. They're all basically about the Ireland-US link - because that is where the money is. However, it is not the Irish story. If they were genuine Irish balladiers they would have a much bigger repertoire of songs about England, Scotland, Australia, etc - especially Australia where the Irish actually had most cultural/political impact in the "new" world.
John of Brissie you must be joking, the Wolfe Tones are 100% Irish band and named after a famous Irish rebel and virtually everything they sing is Irish rebel. Boston rose is probably the only romantic song they do
+John of Brissie your full of shit these are the most genuine Irish balladeers there is today. Born and raised in Dublin they grew up on Irish folk and expanded on it
A great memories remeber my mom dad loved this song got me into wolfe tones happy days o god sadly both gone now want them days back rip mom dad sorry guys for been depressing
There's also a Joy in remembering our loved ones who wait for us on the other side that's what Irish music is all about there's no forgetting our hero's and those who were hero's to each of us personally
I listen to song anytime I'm home sick the guy with girl on the bench is my cousin I think it's getting close to time to go back across the pond for good
Lovely to see that they used the rose garden part of tralee Town park and the ashe memorial hall for the video. No better location as its the host town for the rose 🌹 of tralee festival, beautiful scenery and song
Hi wolfetones i love all your songs this song is very heart warming. Me & my 2 freinds copy a lot of Irish Related songs & play them here in Downtown Chicago in the Irish pubs. the appreciation we get from the crowd is 2nd to none. i myself am an ex pat the parents moved over here in 1987 lived in Boston for 2years then moved to Chicago here ever since, Wish ye would come over & do a gig sometime it would be a sell out Guranteed...
It is really fantastic, I went to a Wolfe Tones gig in Dublin last month and they were fantastic, Brian W and Tommy B were lovely, and I had my photo taken with them, awesome !
The town I spent my childhood and half my teens before like so many before me I've been up on Cricklewood Broadway to the Broadway Lights in Manhattan a song for us all
