I agree, no one should be forced. As an option, I was very happy to have a smart meter installed so I can get electricity at the incredible price of 7.5p/kWh during the night when I heat my water, charge my EV etc. My energy bill went down considerably, I wasn't forced to do it. It's the people struggling with energy bills that should install a smart meter straight away.
Having a smart meter will not change habits You still need to cook You still need to heat You will still want to drink tea You still need to wash your clothes All a smart meter does is help big companies to charge more at peak times
Disincentives people working especially going back into the office. Unless you work from home then you have to wash, cook etc in the evening. I had a smart meter fitted this summer. After 3 repeat visits from British Gas it still DOES NOT WORK. It is a dumb meter and you have to submit your readings via the internet. What a load of rubbish.
I would argue they aren't about rationing. Their 1st goal is the raise prices exorbitantly regardless if there's an abundance or scarcity. It's reaching into our pockets for an ever increasing amount. What we've seen over the past 3 years, as bad as it's been, is noting for the price they want to impose.
Any one can work out how much electricity is used daily in the house, just read the meter at a set time, it can be done weekly, to give a more precise amount of electricity, multiply per price of a KW , is that simple, I do that often.
Privatisation of services that are essential for life for all of us is a disgrace ! All these services should be ran “Not for profit “, gas, electricity, water !
Said right from the start when public utility companies were privatised that it would not end well for the consumer, only line the pockets of shareholders and compant bosses.
It used to be considered common sense, now its a revelation. Corbyn tried ages ago but the country was more concerned about him seeking peace and the way he pronounced Epstiens name.
The new advert stating we might be “rewarded” for using smart meters at different times really means we are going to pay more for electricity when we actually want to use it! I could see this coming from the very moment they were introduced and so much public money has been wasted on subsidising a technology that does not work properly and is designed to create greater profits for the power companies often based in other countries. How ridiculous all this is and shame on those politicians who let all this happen!
This is a staggering level of control. Its undemocratic and unwanted. Government is not acting in the interests of the people and legislate in favour of corporations. It is time to campaign AGAINST BAD LAW.
I’m an Electrician and I’ve realised that one of the main reasons people get a electric smart meter fitted is because they are told they can monitor their energy usage via the small energy monitor however you can buy them separately for around £30 with no need for an electrician to fit as they come with clip on CT’s that just clip around your main live tails. You don’t save money having a smart meter it just gives them your usage in real time . The best way forward is for you to give your readings each month and stay in control.
Why should we give them the readings each month, why don't they take the readings themselves once a quarter and charge us quarterly on what we have used instead of overestimating our usage and sitting on £400-500 of our credit × 10m households at 5% interest. When we had the regional gas and electricity boards they read the meter and everything worked. After all its there meter and if they want paying they should come and read it, thats what you are paying for inthe standing charge amongst other things. I have my meter read by Morrison Services after I have told Ovo that they need to read it. Since these private energy companies have taken over the price of energy has gone up to cater for the obscene profits they make. Why should we pay for the bills of those that have gambled and boozed their money away but cannot pay their energy bills. Good idea about the pre-payment cards, presumably the energy costs more on them so the back payment can be recovered. In my younger days those people had Shilling in the slot meters, early version of the prepayment card. Seems the Australian company that assest stripped and put Thames Water in debt is after buying into, gas and electricity companies. How can it be Royal Mail as opposed to the Check is in the Mail. The jew in the tarnished crown has yet to go, namely the NHS and I think Starmer is out to sell it off to the highest bidder, then you have to buy health insurance with all its caveats. I can assure you that the US health system is not all its cracked up to be either as it costs a fortune monthly to pay for health insurance and thennyou have to pay a large deductable before the insurance pays 80% of whats left.

I also own my own and am really impressed how easy it is to spot which appliances cost a fortune to run and even which bulbs produce lots of heat and therefore increase the electric bills. My house now has no ‘hot’ bulbs and has started saving money. As I keep it on view in the hallway, it shows really clearly if there’s a large appliance in use - then it’s so easy to check that it is actually being used and not just left on in an empty room. If so, it’s quick enough to nip to the item and switch it off until needed. The habit of checking the meter when passing it has made the whole family more aware of their own particular use of electricity and the shocking cost of items left on but not used.
I still remember as a child , the three day week and the rationing of electricity during the seventies . It created chaos Ina country that claimed to be a first world nation .

thats why you block the meter from connecting to the governments wireless network, easily done with any form of fine metal mesh in either your meter box or cupboard, once the meter stops connecting to the network you have to manually send meter readings each month and then it cannot be turned off remotely which is what they are planning to do
@@dazt5831 Or just don't get one. They don’t want to enforce smart meters to keep prices down or save the environment. It is, in fact, the exact opposite. They want to force us to accept higher energy prices. If you go on to a price comparison site for a quote and only change the smart meter yes/no option you’ll see that smart meters actually INCREASE the cost of energy.
@Vallah .... The main reason that energy is going up is 'GREEN TAXES' as to it increases from the UN law UK signed up to..... Paris agreement - they stopped the last big increase to 60%+ (one go) just slowly raised everything in little % over more years to present times (2024). It in UN agenda 2020/30 white paper that's publicly accessible to read. (download) Another 'tin foil hat' idea that was brushed off as garbage then only to come true in the last 4 yrs.... So another conspiracy theory came true arh? Have anything 'smart' around you is VERY BAD IDEA! Get rid of them all! They cannot 'enforce smart meters' on any member other member of the public from a high court ruling from years ago. Remember back a few year when gen 1 smart meter came on the market? What was the Energy providers saying? 'You have to get a smart meter, you have no choice..... it's the law' Out went the analogue dial mechanical (known to work for more than 30yr without issues) to you have get your meter change out every 10yrs (digital). Turn around a few years a group court case got kicked up to the high court & got a ruling that the government/energy providers/UN/EU/etc Didn't like one bit, they cleared up the newly put in laws (signed in law by MP Kenneth Clarke...then now lord). The clear meaning was put out to the public (final judgement)... they couldn't force you or tell you 'it's the law' to have one... you had to request one at your own peril. If you didn't have smart meter you got a 'dumb meter' meaning they could with some effort activate that dumb meter.. into a SMART METER. They gave up..... You can get your own meters & get them installed & be use by the energy providers... perfectly legal under the same law. Then owning your meters you take away the energy providers rights of access for good.... they try it's crimal trespass....

I used to work for an energy generator and supply company, at the start of the smart roll out, the only people who will benefit from Smart meters is the energy companies, when this all started they didn’t know who or where their customers were, now they are bringing order to their organisations and making more money. Their profits will soar as they control the supply, their installation of a Smart meter allows them to have greater control over you.
So good to hear others telling what really is going on. 15 years ago I worked for a SW company and one of our customers was a large energy provider. Chatting over coffee, the techies mentioned a new thing: "a smart meter" that they were working on ..... "to allow us to remotely control your appliances" they joked - then remembered I was there and changed the subject - I've never forgot and told everyone but no - they still believe the drivel about "you'll be able to tell when you are using more power" - no Sh** Sherlock - you mean you dont realise that when you turn on a washing machine it used more power???? Unreal!
@@arbiterclan They where correct. Via the internet of things. When all your appliances are connected to your network the energy provider you are with will be able to monitor your usage and determine individually via the algorithm which appliances you can use and when. For example when you plug in your EV ‘milk float’ your provider automatically checks via your CT ‘s to see your household usage and it will only begin to charge when your other appliances are switched off.
We have been saving energy for well over a decade. It started with energy efficient light bulbs. Most products like fridges and washers machines are more energy efficient. But despite so many people changing to energy efficiency appliances. The price of energy keeps increasing!
Plus - there's been a move to having more appliances move to electricity power(like the plan to stop gas hobs and make people accept induction ones, the move to air fryers and also electric cars). Get people on to the grid - make them easier to control.
that's the whole agenda to steal trillions from humanity and for power and control, they can also easily shut down energy and freeze people do death....

The best way forward is for you to give your readings each month and stay in control.
and to cut the supply should they want to
Why should we give them the readings each month, why don't they take the readings themselves once a quarter and charge us quarterly on what we have used instead of overestimating our usage and sitting on £400-500 of our credit × 10m households at 5% interest.
@@AntiAntiSepticUK I bought an EMF meter (Electromagnetic Field) radiation detector. The reading for the meter was 455 vm 11.41 UT. I measured all the devices in my house the microwave was the highest reading at 615 vm 12.54 ut, the mobile phone was 430 vm 4.15 ut. Everything connected to the wifi has a medium to high reading. Basically we are all being saturated with radiation.
It's all about more control of our lives, big brother can stick smart meters where the sun don't shine has far as I'm concerned
You're right Julia, our Governments have developed a taste for being obsessive, regressive and oppressive.
Ai can switch of your gas ,electricity , water , and close your bank accounts it will have full control of your life
The more energy you save on electric the more they will put the price up to keep the share holders happy... We use to use 100 watt light bulbs and 150 watt TV's now we have more efficient bulbs (10-20w) and tv's (20-50w) yet we pay way more. There are many other things that have become more efficient like ovens, kettles and heating, washing machines, dryers etc
My daughter was forced to have one a few years ago, she pays by monthly direct debit, but her last bill was £6000, and they have threatened with bailiffs if she doesn't pay, but anyone with half a brain would know something is wrong, but no they insist she must have used it because their meters are never wrong.
6 Grand I hope she fights them the whole way
Mine broke 4Weeks ago..im on pay as you go..Usually put £20 a week on..They sent me a bill saying i owe £ 2OOO..????..They are ringing me back Tomorrow 😐..YOU CARNT MAKE THIS CRAP UP..
she should take them to court for faulty meter and say they must have been overcharging her all the time
That's over 20,000 kW. If she isn't running a 24 hour multi point ev charging station, for public use( and its very busy) . That is a monumental cock up at their end ! A busy family household is very unlikely exceed 1000 kW in a month.
@@carlkuss8300 You try telling them it must be wrong.
No thanks ill keep sending my readings each month, keeping a photo and a spreadsheet so i know exactly how much energy i use each month. No smart meter for me.
cool can we make it mandatory to have the fuel companies to remove the meter too? and energy companies have told ppl that smart meters are 'estimated' I know ppl who have paid their bills then been hit by further bills for the same period... so go stuff the meters where the sun doesn't shine
House down the road caught fire in the middle of the night 2months ago also similar house fire in East Midlands about 4months ago but of course they don't want ppl knowing that.
that is because a lot of the smart meter fitters are not properly trained.
Yes electric is much cheaper.Blokes a gimp
SO they can shut you off any time you dont 'comply' with their demands.....
THATS THE REAL REASON
