Agnitha was probably the best soprano to ever grace the pop world with her presence.

Lovely reaction. Abba have been through my life from early 70's . I still get moved emotionally by their music. I can laugh and cry at the same time listening to Abba. No other band touches my soul like these beautiful guys. I was around at the break up and it was heart breaking when Abba stopped. For 10 years I'd had the privilege of going to teh shops as a teenage and buying a brand new Abba album. music was off the scale from these guys and then it stopped. Yes I got into Chess, the musical and some of their solo work, but nothing can replace these angels sent to Earth to make music and basically make the world a better place. As you said to love Abba is to be in touch with feelings of joy, happiness, fun, laughter, despair, love. Nothing quite like them. The world needed Abba. I needed Abba. Love Abba

I didn't grow up on Abba, but heard a song here & there over the years.. always liked them. And then I rented Mama Mia for my mom when it came out (she always loved musicals).. I cried my eyes out when this song was sang/played. It still makes me cry & gives me goosebumps.

Im a Swedish metalhead who loves ABBA, but at first it was not cool to like them as a teenager. But after a couple years all Swedes loved them, and you Brits too.
ABBA had 10 no 1 hitsongs in Britain I think its only beaten by The Beatles.
They still sell like 2 millions records every year.
Its a band who created music that never will die!!
And you MUST do Tommy Johanssons cover, its fantastic with amazing singing from Tommy!

ABBA in the begining two swedish couples, meet inb1969:
    Agnetha (blonde singer) &
    Björn (guitarist songwriter)
    Benny (pianist songwriter) &
    Anni Frida (brunette singer)
Agnetha & Björn married in 1971, with two Young childrens
Benny and Frida married in 1978, withouth own childrens
both couples separated before the breakup of ABBA in 1982:
Agnetha & Björn at end of 1978
Benny & Frida at begin 1981
"The winner takes it all" (1980)
is one of the Best Songs by ABBA
and the Most sad and emotional too
The best lyrics by the guitarist Björn
and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation
    of
the blonde singer Agnetha Fältskog and her soprano voice
The lyrics is a fiction about a divorce,
it is not about Their real life,
although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences
and the realization of the legal divorce between Agnetha & Björn in the middle of 1980,
even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978
In fact, the song was more nearly in time to the split of Benny & Frida as a couple, only a few months later
"The winner takes it all" return ABBA to the Top of the charts,
gives ABBA their eighth #1 in UK after almost two years and half
Also was the fourth and last Top10 to ABBA in U.S (pick at #8 in 1981)
and #1 in US Adult Contemporary too
    "The winner takes it all"
was voted the Best ABBA song by the British fans,
and is the favourite ABBA song to the blonde singer Agnetha
and now in the new Voyage concerts at London that begins exactly one year before, the encore song is...
    "The winner takes it all"
I wish to You a nice week
    my best regards from
    Buenos Aires , Argentina 🇦🇷

It's really interesting that you asked this question "What was life with and without ABBA"! Back then I was singing in a choir (mostly old chorals and motets like J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms but also Heinrich Schütz). At that time I didn't care lot about popular music and what was trend at that time of my childhood! It sounds a little weird but that didn't interest me at all. Therefore I almost missed the beginning of the raise of ABBA! When people asked me about ABBA I'd probably answered: "Not bad but there are much better things in classical music!" (I still think it's partly true when I listen to Fritz Wunderlich, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Victoria de los Angeles, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hermann Prey or lately Elina Garanca!)
However during the time where my voice changed from 2nd soprano to 2nd bass I was listening to some example of music history beginning with Elvis (which I instantly liked) over The Beatles (I was fond of their songs to sing it myself but didn't like them as a band). But with ABBA it was different. Maybe it's because both ladies were beautiful and at the same time had beautiful voices! Something that isn't right, or is it? A lot of envy there! Yes, I have to admit that I fell in love with ABBA (however at a point where ABBA left the stage). The next singer I really admire is Jennifer Rush! (With a few exceptions like Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole and his dauther Natalie Cole, to an extent Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy Sinatra my interest in popular music cooled down again. Perhaps too much comerce and too little talents besides todays Lady Gaga!)
I don't know whether you (as a tenor) know about Peter Hofmann (a Wagner tenor who unfortunately became Parkinson but was singing pop and rock songs together with his wife Deborah Sasson). This is about what I know about popular music. (Oh I probably forgot about this duet of Freddy Mercury and Monserrat Caballe, where I found Freddy fell short!)

Am I imagining having seen you do a different reaction to this earlier today? Love your reactions. "Slipping through my fingers" is another tearjerker for a different reason.
I was in my 30's when ABBA was in full sway. To be honest, I liked ABBA at rhe time but was not fully on board. Then again in the 70's and 80's my musical interests were mainly 60's artists + Ilivia Newton John and The Shadows, so I am probably not much help. Looking forward to you doing more ABBA Reactions. Thanks.

Yeah, I was there... When Agnetha and Björn divorced I (11 yo) was terrified! Was this the end of ABBA? Nope, they carried on, and became even better. When they DID break up, it was silent. ABBA took a break - and the years went by. The sadness for me was that no other artist could really match my first love of pop music. But after some decades, it didn't matter. I realized that I would never grow tired of ABBA's music. Timeless and so many layers, something for every situation in my life. And then, out of the blue, then they came back! Circle closed and if I want an extra ABBA experience, London is 2 hour away.

Abba have at least 5 top songs among the top 10 in pop history: The winner takes it all, SOS, One of us, D Queen and Thank you for the music. Maybe the 5 no Abba's songs on the list are Wuthering Heights ( K Bush), You're so vain ( C Simon), I'm not in love (10 CC), Julia (R Wakeman) and Limelight ( A Parsons). Greetings from Brazil.

To me, Abba is number one. Always has been, always will be. I remember how sad it made me feel reading about the divorce and the group members making other plans, like the ladies wanted to do solo stuff and guys had planned writing a musical together with Tim Rice.
And then, The Day Before You Came came out, a masterpiece like no other. Hauntingly beautiful, so very very sad and absolutely gorgeous song.
Seemingly simple, yet it had everything and then some. Agnetha`s lead vocals are absolutely fantastic and Frida singing the operatic backing vocal.. Wow. Please do react to that and When all is said and done, the Frida & Benny divorce song. Absolutely fantastic, as well.

Some of the things you had a hard time explaining is the magic of their engineer Michael B Tretow. This was way before computers so it's all analogue. He had the girl record parts over and over, then layering them with different pan. He put thin tape on the capstan of the tape recorder to get a slight off key harmony, he did lots of different stuff. He was heavily inspired by Phil Spectors "Wall of sound" sound.

I´m from Sweden, and I clearly remember. Both Agneta and Björn were individually successfull artists from very yong ages. when they fell in love they fast became kind of a "golden couple" in everybodys eyes. They had a fairy tale wedding, two cute kids and quite a career! They were simply considered perfekt. So the news of the break up hit like a bomb! There was no allegations, no drama, but it was truly devastating! Maybe it can be compered to Brad and Jenifer ... ( a little)
