Hearing some of their later stuff I feel a bit embarrassed about being such a big SM fan back in the day but then I hear this for the first time in ages and everything becomes clear again.
1979 was some year for music but the first two albums stuck out from the crowd. Had to be the bass line. Maybe the keyboards. Or Charlie’s guitar work. Brilliant remix. Very well put together.
@@110BERLIN_ Agree 100%, he very rarely got mentioned, but great technique different from Mel Gaynor who was more a power drummer although still very good.
@@Nicolai-y5s The personnel changes at the Minds shop being what they are, we’re lucky that the group got so much done in short time. Thank you for listening!
@@110BERLIN_ I discovered the Minds with the 'Once Upon a Time' album & thought that Gaynor was a great drummer. Then I dug into their early stuff & IMO, McGee was the best drummer they ever had.
I was there too, I travelled by train from London to Stafford on Sunday 6th September 1981. The first time I saw the group. I remember they pulled the plug on the Virgin Prunes as their act was too risqué.
Play this beautiful trance ambient hypnotic song to American listener's who discovered Simple Minds post " Don't you " (forget about me) and it would freak them out!😅
also that was the period when the human league released "love and dancing". think the Simple minds missed an opportunimty there. i can see a lot of "empire and dance" & "sons and fiscination" tunes having a "dub" treatment. I just heard a 10 min live version of "fear of ghost" i wonder if it was your inspiration for your edit.
@ludochem XTC also made a remix/remodel album in 1980 (Take Away/The Lure of Salvage), incidentally produced by Leckie. The Minds' music at the time would certainly have been suitable for a similar project, as you said. Maybe they just didn't have the funds? Anyway...the live version of FoG you're probably referring to (the one with Hyslop recorded on 1981-12-29) is featured heavily in that mix.
Oh cill 🎉 så fed bas guitar sang og trommer helt væk, celebration, factory, fear of goods mv inden 80'erne begyndte og så fed videreudvikling, break eft 86 og ny æra begyndte, street .. mandela og m live i verona 8 9 🎉 cill simple minds forever in virgin sign ❤❤❤😊
Very natural for groups to change, I reckon, and the Minds are always looking ahead, which is a healthy attitude. This listener may not always be along for the ride, but e.g. Utopia was a recent-ish track I thought was really cool. Still…why can’t they release the live stuff from the Forbes era that’s been gathering dust in the archives? Asking for a friend.
Bass line just perfect
The video matches perfectly
Another one of my favourite early Minds tracks . What a rhythm section, Brian and Derek.
Agree on all counts.
Totally agree, love your profile picture btw :P
@@teun2408 Thanks. Like yours also. Both pics from Werchter festival Belgium 1983. Jim joined U2 on stage during 11 o'clock tick tock
Oh great job btw. This was always one of Minds best tracks, way ahead of its time.
Thank you, Andy! Yeah, what a track. Coiled and lurching, slightly menacing…
Absolutely agree Premonition is a classic proper stand out track of RTRC
Brilliant mix my favourite simple minds track of all time fantastic thank you
Premonition/ Lyrics
Real to real
Fact to fact
Nothing moving happening
Artifact
The waiting room
Waits
Limbo can burn
But the original sin
The incentive to learn
Fly over land
Where no hearts can beat
The metal rain pouring
Raining
Raining
Raining down on me
Hole in my head
Where the creature has crawled
And It's burning and turning
Out of control
Real to real
Fact to fact
Nothing moving happening
Artifact
I in this land
Sand in the eye
So here we go
The happy man dies
Brave little world
Well you cry once again
Remodel life
Remake and remodel
Remoel men
Protection Protection
The sound of machines
Image is burning
As they grind to a halt
Crying and crying
The sound of the shells
Tears turn to salt
Cry and I cry
Just one more illusion
I cry just for you
There's a hole in my head
Where the voices came through
Fly over land
Waiting and waiting
Where no hears can beat
Machinery's burning
The metal rains pour
Pour
Raining
Raining down on me
Premonition
Perfect , thank you

Ambientada con la arquitectura brutalista de Londres.
Una obra musical adelantada a su tiempo. Por si duda cabía de la grandeza de Simple Minds.
Totally agree.
That driving bassline. Fantastic work.
DF wrote too many awesome basslines to mention. And McGee? Very underrated drummer. Delightfully quirky at times. Thanks for listening!

Futurama 3 at Bingley Hall,Stafford......Thats the first time I saw SM !
That must have been quite the experience. The bootleg from that gig suggests that they were "on" that night.

Not just American listeners, one suspects. Once the group started to duke it out in the EnormoDomes, something was lost (and gained).

No worries. I wish I had seen them live. Cheers, mate!
Saw them live first in 1980 and many times after. They have been in my life forever it seems!@@110BERLIN_
I think simple minds could have made a dub album in the early 80s ( sons & fascination perod)and it would hav been awesome !
It would be cool if Bill Laswell gave the Minds his "Miles treatment", unlikely as it may seem. That would totally work.

Do we see here Glasgow in the 50s or 60s ?
Oh, I need to re-check. It's very possible.
A lot of brutalist architecture from mostly London but you can see it in every UK city
No it’s not Glasgow the blocks are different up there this is London Ronan Point is featured which was part destroyed by a gas explosion in 1968
