Totally agree. Liu Kang beat Shao Kahn in the original timeline, and Raiden kills him on reflex, then Raiden needs the assistance of the elder gods to kill Shao Kahn.

@@tonyhuynh1276 Liu Kang fought Shao Kahn in a drawn out battle, and Shao Kahn survived getting punched through the chest, Raiden technically didn’t need the Elder Gods’ help, the only reason he was having his ass handed to him was because he was waiting for the Elder Gods, he was choosing not to fight back, so the power scaling here wasn’t too bad, especially since it was another beat down (notice how Shao Kahn was beaten to a bloody pulp while Raiden had like, a single bruise on his chin, then there was Liu Kang and Shao Kahn, Liu Kang had multiple bruises on his body while Shao Kahn was beaten up)
There are however some better examples of poor power scaling in MK, I just wouldn’t count this scene as one

He didn't kill Shao Kahn by himself, he couldn't. The Elder Gods infused him the power needed to defeat Kahn because he violated the pact. That was the point of "let Kahn take over Earth" that Liu Kang thought was madness.

Man I remember the immense feeling of dread I felt the first time I saw this cutscene. When Shao Khan is beating up Raiden and it mimics what happened in Armageddon, it really felt like it was over, that all was for NOTHING. I was convinced that we would be getting a 100% bad ending.
Truly, this was an amazing story mode for a fighting game. A shame the sequels never matched its greatness.
Ironic since MANY people hate this story mode and many people love the sequels. I swear I hear the exact opposite opinions about the MK games on every single video I come across 😂
@@drelezar7745 That's honestly surprising, considering MKX's story mode has the "Cassie Cage single-handedly beats Shinnok" moment which (to my knowledge) no one liked, and MK11 has the worst villain in the franchise, among other things.
I've personally seen far more people prefer MK9's because its the classic 2D trilogy revisited in modern form.

This game greateast achievement was to give us a classic MK while keeping it new. It was clear they needed to end the story differently, which they did, but I think this is actually what caused the sequels to not be so good. Like, they killed almost all the original characters, so creating new ones was necessary. They needed to go on the Shinnok plotline, but they also wanted to make something new. At the same time, you want to get your original characters (Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sub-zero) back to the main plot. It's hard to accomplish all of that in a 5 hour long story mode.
By looking now at MK1 beta release, everything reseted and a fresh new approach to all the original characters, I think they did a good job. They were able to tell a new story, revive all the original characters and also give them a new approach. That's a win for me.
I loved this story mode, hated X, loved 11
Glad that Liu Kang and the other revenants got redemption.

These edits where it goes from a cutscene to the final blow being struck makes this shit way too funny
Man, Liu Kang was such an idiot here. Raiden was giving a very clear and concise reason for his actions, and Liu is just like “Whatever”.
At this point Liu had lost all faith in Raiden when every so called vision led to more death and destruction
To be fair, Raiden has already misunderstood way too many of warnings of his Dark self. Which resulted in way too many deaths. Which actually made Liu Kang snap.
Yeah Liu was beyond over it at this point.
It’s also because he had seen all of his friends die, and saw how the Elder Gods would not help them when Shao Khan was invading. Raiden tried everything to change the future, and it was only his last attempt that worked.
@@Exl6243 exactly. Keep in mind Raider took liu kang to counsel with the elder gods when they said Shao Khan wasn’t wrong for invading earth realm. When they came back Sindel had killed more than half of the earth realm warriors including Kitana who he loved.
So in his eyes Raider made no sense anymore..he wasn’t the chosen one, mortal kombat rules by the elder gods was mere fiction at that point, and your mentor was seemingly giving in to the enemy.
Couldn’t blame him for feeling that way.

Now just think how different the story would’ve been if Liu Kang had just listened to Raiden

@@werrfwer that never made sense to me to be honest how Shao could just absorb blaze like that when in Armageddon's canon the brothers defeated blaze together which it claims that after such all combatants were disarmed an striped of their power with Tayven ascending to full godhood and Daegon being punished an imprisoned.

This fight is always a pain in the ass for me. I hate how the programmers gave Kahn his classic, cheap, arcade difficulty from the 90s back.
I do not blame Raiden for Liu Kang's death I blame the Elder Gods Shao Kahn only got away with most of what he did due to a technicality, and they only intervened at the very last minute
Why even allow merging of realms in the first place if the purpose of dividing them was to split up and seal away the One Being. Perhaps Mortal Kombat is used to divide away the One Being's power even if realms are merged.

5:38 - The Crazy Part is that Liu Kang was so angry at Raiden (because of the death of his "future wife Katana") that he wanted too kill him, just like he killed shao kahn. My thing is Why "Liu Kang" didn't stay back with the crew? Instead he went with "Raiden".
Raiden wanted "Liu Kang" too wait for "Shao Kahn" too come through the portal for ("Raiden" and "Liu Kang") Too defeat "Shao Kahn" Together.
Even if Liu Kang and Raiden can defeat Shao Khan together, Kronika's plan has failed and Liu Kang still can't forgive Raiden.
My headcanon is that Kronika is the one shattering the amulet to manipulate Raiden to do exactly as she wants. Shao Khan's death, the earthrealm warriors killed by Sindel, and most importantly Liu Kang's death.
