- Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, is widely recognized as one of the leading performers of the Patiyala gharana following the footsteps of the connoisseurs like Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan sahab. His music is marked by impeccable alaap, sweet with effortless ease in the style of Ustad Barkat Ali Khan sahib’s gayaki, he can equally portray even the most subtle features of other major classical gharanas. He has been awarded with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award, the third highest civilian award in India in 2020. He is the first Indian classical vocalist to be invited by Pakistan and China and by BBC for their Golden Jubilee Celebration of India’s Independence. This is a tribute to this doyen of Patiyala Gharana which is a treat for every listener.
Raga Maru Behag is a very melodious Raga. In this Rishabh and Dhaivat Varjya in Aaroh, Madhyam Teevra (with rare use of Madhyam Shuddha), Rest all Shuddha Swaras are used. The intersection of these movements represents the confluence of the Kalyan and Bihag angas with the regular usage of both the Madhyams. Over the years and in the course of its journey across regions, the raga has acquired quaint touches and flavours reflecting the varieties of the different notes used in the raga.

Absolutely lovely. My introduction to Hindustani Music was through Marubihag with the late Sri Mallikarjun Mansur singing. I was all of 7y. Could not learn music because of one great subject yessssss you guessed right. Begins with a capital ‘M’ and ends with a ‘t’
