This is something strange: I believed that android one came from the OEM anyway. Since each android one firmware is customized with minor functionalities (gestures and so on) and even the camera app developed by the OEM...then it makes sense that the OEM releases the update, upon new android release from Google. This also explains why, for example, Xiaomi Mi A1 received its Oreo update so late after the pixels...am I wrong Gary?
So, Android One program is just like the Google Play Edition program, where OEMs made the device but Google provided the firmware back in the day, right?
Lately Google's Apps and OS have been shipping with too many Bugs. Android Auto and Smart Lock, to the point Smart Lock only works with a daily restart.
Gary Sims - any idea how fast Android One (AO) devices will get android updates? Looks like the security pactchs comes pretty fast (1-2 month delay from stock android) but the android updates doesn't seem to arrive that fast, if at all. Does anybody know of any AO devices that has recieved Android Pie yes?
Small correction.. Android one update is not coming from Google these days.. it will be shipped to OEMs and it's OEMs responsibility to ship to consumers. I have mi a1.. still in 8.0.0 and but security patch is upto date. That is April security patch.
Just for fun i would have liked a comparison of 1.Speed test 2. Info in space used for OS 3. Ram in use by OS 4. Android Go app differences 5. Go apps vs reg apps speed test 6. Test how many apps each phone can hold open even though ram is different. 7 differences in setting or features in a droid 1 vs Go vs reg. 8. See if Android one or Go can play ultra graphical games and how well Make another video
Hi professor! I have a question why oxygen os is so fast and snappy it beats up Pixel 2XL stock os or neck to neck in speed test is it just well optimized phone or something else?
It's sad That Informative videos like this gets very less views but shitty third class Indian tech channels gets very high views just in a couple of days
Hello Gary, good video, it is also key to note that Nokia android devices runs on pure Android, having most of their recent devices (Nokia 7+, 6.1, ) on the android one platform and as well (Nokia 1,2.1)on the go edition...and even the ones firstly launched already have capacity to run Oreo alongside up to date security patch level
Thanks always for your explains. I have questions. I understand that Nokia one can use the SD card as internal memory. Is this a feature of the android go? Can other android flavors or devices use this feature? I own a LG G3 beat and it only has 8 GB of internal memory with a 32 GB SD card but with android lollipop and google apps I can only install a small number of apps and updates are always prompting me for more space.
Good evening Gary Simms I love your shows specially when you were talking about stock Android and in the differences between the three keep up the very good work
hi , i have Nokia 5 about 6 months for now , and i received Android Oreo 8.1 with April security patch and all the security patches for the last 6 months , but some times i have to restart my phone to receive the update .
I have a question in my mind for long time , if I buy a Android one phone in 2019 which was released in 2018 how many is update I will get pls help me on these
Hey, what about internal audio screen recording, does anyone knows a workaround, besides Mobizen headphones, Mobizen app for Samsung and LG devices...on Android 7+, of course.
There is still one thing I didn't get , What's the difference between Android one and stock Android I mean they are both from google (pushed) So why not merge them
Mohamad Abdallah i think Gary is just adding to the confusion a bit. Google is not afaik actually responsible for pushing updates to Android One devices. It's still up to the OEM. Infact Android One devices still have OEM software.
Don't you think by shifting to Android go will incur addition coat company instead of Android one,I mean to say Android one is lot more better than go.because each and everything thing will come from Android.Plus the mass of Android one program is far more than Android go ,so per unit cost of device will be low in case of Android one program.?
All of you are plebs, Android P beta on a pixel 2xl is the best version of Android. Minimal app crashing which is surprising, but I've also haven't experienced any force reboots yet which usually happens with beta software!... I know it happened quite a bit with Oreo beta program. Only issue with it is occasional disconnect from Bluetooth or cell service (not data services only cell) which can be a pain if using on your daily driver. But besides that it's the best Android version to date, can't wait for the next three DP releases!
Good morning Gary! I'm afraid you may be a bit wrong about the camera app as Google recently announced that the stock app wasn't fully capable of using a dual-camera setup at its full potential. I can't remember exactly how they called that feature, but it's supposed to ship with Android 9 which I truly hope I will get on my Android One device - The Xiaomi MI A1 which I very much enjoy.
Thank you for making this video this was vary helpful for me to have a better understanding of whats going on with the android software before i buy my new phone. i've beend waching android authority for years since it first started i'm still loving the content.
you showed that stock android in google pilxel - it is getting faster upgrades . then , how about the stock android in other phone brands - faster or slower .........
Fruitarian - Lineage is utilising the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Lineage were previously under the name of CyanogenMod, the creators of some of the first custom recoveries, root methods etc. The software is, as far as I understand, made by a community of developers who cherry pick essential software and use a basic "base" ROM reminiscent of stock android. Updates are pushed independently through nightly or stable builds. Nightly (as the name suggests) are released daily and can have instability, whereas those who officially run lineage (OnePlus users, for example) will receive updates from the OnePlus team typically every 3 months of stable builds.
+Android Authority +Gary Sims Ok, so Google is trying its best to streamline the Android OS updates. Why can't the *security patches come directly* from Google? That way *all devices are safe to use!* They're already doing it for the Android One Project. I can understand that *actual OS upgrades (i.e., Nougat 7.1.2 to Oreo 8.1.0 to Android P)* are more tedious to do because there are so many Android devices out there. So that's forgiveable from their history of fragmentation.
I've had an Android One Moto x4 for a few months now. Overall I like the phone, but not a fan of this pseudo stock Android kind of experience. The whole interface constantly feels like it is missing something. Like stock Android isnt as polished as you might expect and really needs that extra manufacturer interface/firmware to tie up all the loose ends. For instance, I know there is a Motorola gallery app here but for the most part it is inaccessable and the only photo gallery app is Google Photos which is horendous. I mean, the phone is pretty quick and responsive for the most part, but the interface and settings options are just lacking in a way that is actually hard to describe. I really wouldn't recommend it unless you are a developer or something.
The resemblance with Lew (UNBOX THERAPY) is uncanny
Pulkit *_* believe it or not I was here to put the same comment😂
Good knock off 😂😂
Is he the father of tge guy in unbox therapy.
Pulkit *_* thats exactly what i thought when the video first started and i was just going to write a comment bout it
Pulkit *_* ikr
Stock/Pixel Android: Google's own skin
Android One: Nexus 2.0

AndroidOne is the same as stock android

Gary always gives a clear and mature explanation, I like it.
I am glad you liked it.
*GARY!!!*
*Good Morning Professor!!!*
20 hour shift and counting! Can't wait to retire!
Morning Mark! LOL. Sleep is for wimps!!!
Hum it seems alots of people ar using nokia new phone series ! Great Come Back Nokia 😙
So, Android One program is just like the Google Play Edition program, where OEMs made the device but Google provided the firmware back in the day, right?
Gary please make a comparison video between EMUI vs Samsung experience vs Stock Android.
What's the difference between Nokia 6's Stock android & Nokia 6 2018's Android One???
Lately Google's Apps and OS have been shipping with too many Bugs. Android Auto and Smart Lock, to the point Smart Lock only works with a daily restart.
Hello, Gary! Nice intro to my favorite part of Android. Been a fan of Stock Android since Nexus 7. Now, Android One user!
Gary Sims - any idea how fast Android One (AO) devices will get android updates? Looks like the security pactchs comes pretty fast (1-2 month delay from stock android) but the android updates doesn't seem to arrive that fast, if at all. Small correction.. Android one update is not coming from Google these days.. it will be shipped to OEMs and it's OEMs responsibility to ship to consumers.
I have mi a1.. still in 8.0.0 and but security patch is upto date. That is April security patch.
I have the first Nexus Tablet which is choking with the latest update of Android. Which variant is opt for Nexus 7 2012 model? Please advise.
Just for fun i would have liked a comparison of
1.Speed test
2. Info in space used for OS
3. Ram in use by OS
4. Android Go app differences
5. Go apps vs reg apps speed test
6. Test how many apps each phone can hold open even though ram is different.
7 differences in setting or features in a droid 1 vs Go vs reg.
8. See if Android one or Go can play ultra graphical games and how well
Make another video
Xiomi mi a1 device software updates come from Xiaomi and not Google still it is Android one device 🤔. Can you elaborate?? Or is my information wrong??
How to find out in the phone what Platt form they using as Android..??
Gary, please say about the stock Android on the other smartphones rather than pixel... example Asus max pro m2
Hi professor! I have a question why oxygen os is so fast and snappy it beats up Pixel 2XL stock os or neck to neck in speed test is it just well optimized phone or something else?
Less animations, more ram and little bit higher cpu frequency (over cloked)
The animations are quick makes it seem not at smooth but faster. Also they overclock the cpu a little and have twice the ram for multi tasking.
Hmm this make sense.
More ram they have 6 to 8 gigs of ram in there phones vs 4. If the Pixel had 6 to 8 gigs of ram it would be just as fast.
It's the same of the Razer phone more ram.
It's sad That Informative videos like this gets very less views but shitty third class Indian tech channels gets very high views just in a couple of days
no hating indian people man, but we should consider that there a lot of them in terms of population so i think that is the answer.
U fool why r u generalizing whole India 😀,Sunderpichai where he's from ruling Technology
Gary u really the only reason to open android authority videos
What about Nokia 7+
Will it recieve security updates and patches from google upto android version Q..??
Random Topics yup two guaranteed os upgrades and 3 years of security patches
Random Topics Yup. It will. 2 major OS updates and 3 Yrs of Security Patches.
Updates directlly comes from google then why Xiaomi mi A1 is behind nokia 3 in security patch 🤔
But Gary, every SD 800+ chip enabled phone is daydream enabled right?
I love the way Gary explains!
Thanks always for your explains.
I have questions.
I understand that Nokia one can use the SD card as internal memory. Is this a feature of the android go? Can other android flavors or devices use this feature?
I own a LG G3 beat and it only has 8 GB of internal memory with a 32 GB SD card but with android lollipop and google apps I can only install a small number of apps and updates are always prompting me for more space.
anyone phone can
all u need to do is format and mount it as internal in setting>storage
Good evening Gary Simms I love your shows specially when you were talking about stock Android and in the differences between the three keep up the very good work
hi , i have Nokia 5 about 6 months for now , and i received Android Oreo 8.1 with April security patch and all the security patches for the last 6 months , but some times i have to restart my phone to receive the update .
Bro, what can I do with my stock android phone for "Power schedule on/off function" and "alarm service" when the phone is switched off.
Thank you for clearing this up. I was getting Android One and Android Go mixed up. Great video!
Can uninstalled pre installed apps on android one? And, can you root it in order to uninstalled pre installed apps?
Hi, I have a doubt if I buy the phone which should I go for stock Android or Android one ?
I have a question in my mind for long time , if I buy a Android one phone in 2019 which was released in 2018 how many is update I will get pls help me on these
How much manifactures pay to google for *android one* and *android go* project?
Hey, what about internal audio screen recording, does anyone knows a workaround, besides Mobizen headphones, Mobizen app for Samsung and LG devices...on Android 7+, of course.
So Android One is now what "Goole Play Edition" phones used to be?
My friend says if one device have 710 snap. Processor and 2nd have 665 snap. , Second will have more performance due to android one....Is it right??
There is still one thing I didn't get ,
What's the difference between Android one and stock Android I mean they are both from google (pushed)
So why not merge them
Nevermind after reading the article in the blog I understood it
thank you
Mohamad Abdallah i think Gary is just adding to the confusion a bit. Google is not afaik actually responsible for pushing updates to Android One devices. It's still up to the OEM. Infact Android One devices still have OEM software.
I agree with Tiago. The video was straight-up wrong and self-contradictory.
I vote for android one.... it's the best
Don't you think by shifting to Android go will incur addition coat company instead of Android one,I mean to say Android one is lot more better than go.because each and everything thing will come from Android.Plus the mass of Android one program is far more than Android go ,so per unit cost of device will be low in case of Android one program.?
No one can explain as good as Professor Gary .
Which flavour is good for Nexus 7 2012 tablet?
Will the Android one device get updates next to pixel devices?...
All of you are plebs, Android P beta on a pixel 2xl is the best version of Android. Minimal app crashing which is surprising, but I've also haven't experienced any force reboots yet which usually happens with beta software!... I know it happened quite a bit with Oreo beta program. Needed this explanation badly , luv it
Good morning Gary!
Android P introduces dual camera APIs.
Which of the three has better battery performance and why?
Love learning from Gary. 👍 it's like being taught by the best teachers.
hi.. did nokia 1 get an updates to android pie(Go Edition) ?
Thank you for making this video this was vary helpful for me to have a better understanding of whats going on with the android software before i buy my new phone.

I love the concept of Android One. It's kind of like a Nexus rebirth in a way. Thanks for breaking it down!
Fix the description, How do they compare, not How to they compare.
What phone should i buy under the range of 16000 rupees
So stock android and Android one are the same.

Very helpful video! Please keep it coming...
Thanks Gary, incredibly helpful. Keep these videos coming
Great video Mr. Sims. Explained very well.
The framerate at 2:19 gave me a little bit of cancer
how bout lineage? whats the diffrens?
