*Hello mister Derek, thank you for the wonderful video. My question to you is - if there is a way to determine if - 1943 Bulova A-11 Watch is genuine or not ... ( There is someone in my country, who is selling this watch, and I have no clue if it is genuine or not .. The person who is selling it, didn't post a photo of the movement... They are from a different town , and possibly coming in my town in Saturday... The back plate of the watch looks too shiny... And dial looks new - like it was restored or .. who knows what is going on with that watch .. ). Thank you in advance !)*
Hi. I know they do make some repros now and it looks a bit too new, then maybe it is not what you're looking for. Sounds a little fishy to me. I don't think you'll be happy with it as you'll always wonder about it. Ask for the movement pic and history of it. Especially since they have gone up in value so much.
I was under the belief that the Type A-11 was only issued to aircrew. Ground crew was issued something called the Ordnance watch which usually had 13 jewels instead of the 15 or 16 in the A-11. The Sterling silver case is really nice, as most A-11s had nickel plated brass, which tended to pit and corrode over time. I have an Elgin and a Waltham, which is the name you were looking for when listing manufacturers. I know it's not easy reciting information off the top of your head.
Hi, I didn't know that, but that makes a lot of sense. And. yes those are the two names I forgot. My son has the Elgin model. And yes, there is a lot going on up there so remembering everything is tough sometimes. lol
Hi Derek… I’ve been looking for one of these watches for a few years. My grandfather and I were very close when I was growing up. He was a GI in Europe during WW2. I’d love to have one of these to add to my watch collection as a way to honor him, and the countless other brave men and women who have served, but I can’t seem to find one from that time period that’s in good condition and still works. Your watch fits the bill for what I’m looking for. I also love that you have the original strap. I know this video is about a year old, but if you still have this watch, would you be interested in selling it? If not, where did you buy this one? I can’t seem to find any 1940’s era A-11 models anywhere. The ones online (if you can find one) are in really poor condition. I’m looking for the Bulova model because I think that’s the model my grandfather had, but if I can’t find one I might just widen my search criteria to include the other manufacturers like Elgin and Hamilton. Thanks!! Great video!!!
HI, thanks for watching! This watch isn't for sale but I do see these every once in a while for sale, but the prices on these have gone up crazy since I found mine. I actually got mine at an estate sale for $5! But it had been sitting for 70 years. The radium had ruined the dial and crystal so I had it completely gone over. I think I put a pic of the yellow crystal. I got my son an white elgin model so they are out there. Only the Bulova had a silver case model though and I think it's the best looking of them all. I think these go for $800-$1000 now!
@@derekdoeschannel Thanks for the reply. I’ve been looking for your exact model and time frame for years and can’t seem to find it anywhere. If you ever consider selling it, please keep me in mind. Yours is exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!!
Great video Derek! I've been collecting A-11's for several years, and have a silver Bulova like yours. Unfortunately, the crown on my watch is clearly incorrect, and I have been desperately searching for the right one. If possible, could you please advise on the watchmaker who repaired your A-11? Just hoping they can help me out so I can get this amazing timepiece back in service! Much appreciated.
You are right. I asked Scott about this last week, but even he doesn't have the correct crown. Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to provide his info. Many thanks and look forward to seeing your next video!
@@jeffreyvajda7023 I also have this same Bulova A-11 in sterling silver. It is in excellent condition and works perfectly, I love it. But I also don't have the right crown... we are both looking for a hen's tooth :-).
Just got this one at an antique mall. It's so cool!
Fantastic. I hope you got a great deal on it!

I just found one
Ground troops mostly got A-11s pilots and others received A-17s from what I've heard .
@@frankporfidio9813 A-17's were Korea.
