Here is what I typically say to those asking the same thing. Providing they have no physical limitations; put your elbow into your side and create a 90 degree angle at the elbow with palm facing up. Put a ball in your hand. If you can hold it for 5-10 seconds without the arm shaking or feeling like it is going to give out; then with the proper fit should be able to handle the weight. Be surprised how many people say they use a 10 or 12 pound house ball only to realize they could handle a 14 or 15. The thing you have to say to them is that to take into consideration they are trying to knock over almost 40 pounds worth of wood. So the heavier they can go the better their scores will tend to be.
I bowl with 14s. I tried 15s but it felt uncomfortable during my swing and trying to keep my hand where it needs to be. I damaged my wrist when I was younger and it's never been the same. So 14s definitely suit me nicely.
When I got into bowling 2 years ago, I bought several used balls in varying weights just to see what I would find comfortable. Didn’t take me long to realize 15# was the right weight and now I have a 4 ball arsenal of new equipment (first new ball was the Sneak Attack 😁)
Hey, heavier ball does not provide additional kinetic energy at the pins. Ron Hatfield and James Freeman proved that in their book, “Bowling beyond the basics.”
I threw 15 for many years and jumped up to 16 about 18 years ago on the recommendation of my PSO. Best move I made as it keeps my speed around 16-18mph and allows the ball to finish. My spare ball is still 15.

I roll 14 thru 16. It took a really long time to get used to 14, but now they all feel the same. I will typically warm up with a 14, bowl for score with the 16 or 15, depending on what the conditions are, and if it's a really long block, I will switch to 14 as fatigue sets in.
How is your consistency? My Rev rate drops a bit as the weight increases.
@@kevinquick4844 consistency was a challenge using 14 lbs at first. But after figuring it out, if I miss a mark, it certainly isn't the weight of the ball causing it.
Sometimes I get fast with a 16. Since USBC is approving things like string pins, can we get 17s next?
ball returns would struggle with those weight and the kick backs would take more maintenance because parts would wear out faster
16 all the way
My wife went from a 13lb ball to a 14 and she actually likes how it feels much better. She has converted to using her strike ball for spares because the extra weight allows her to stay on line more.....
This is so accurate…a bit sad because of all of the nostalgia (getting the correction slip at Nationals because of too much side or finger weight)…
And that 1H is the new Dodo Bird!!! Walking and talking to extinction!😢😢😢😢
When I was 14/15 years old, I used a 16. Fast forward 30 years later and not having bowled since then, I'm wanting to start back up. But the thought of going with a 16 again kinda spooks me.
When you use 16 in 28.5 km and 520 rpm its expload the pins
Ok, so how do I test diff weights? Use house balls?
yes
one other thing to remember is the weight block changes with 13lbs and under
Iuse 2 finger no thumb no 2 handed
Trial and error at 300 bucks a pop. Ya, OK.
Trump uses and 18 pound ball. but he has big balls.....😂
