That’s so interesting, the way Ciminelli explained it with the car analogy makes so much sense. It’s easier to stop, ergo hook harder, with less weight. I would have thought heavier meant less speed, which would mean more time to hook. The more you know
Light balls don't hook more because the lower weight also means less friction with the lane surface. Your previous intuition is correct, hooking is quite sensitive to ball speed
@@brianlawson1438 My statement applies ceteris paribus, not if someone revs the lighter ball more. Some of those Kegel centers have EARL or another Throwbot that could try multiple weights at the same speed and rev rate. Try throwing a ball lighter than 9 pounds and it doesn't wheel the lane unless you slow it down

I threw 15lb for 17 years. I dropped to 14lb the past year because of my elbow. Also, I'm a two finger, no thumb bowler. I found out I have more control at 14, and it hits no difference than the 15s did. Jmo

i have got a question. i ordered a new ball online and they somehow mess up my finger inserts color. would it be okay to remove the thumb inserts and re-use it in on a different ball? i dont wanna throw it away since they are new and not abused
Lol. This video reminds me of the last time I bowled. I was with a group of pep band members and dancers from our school during a basketball tournament. I threw some really lightweight balls (less than 10 pounds) but for some reason, after the second or third round, our balls weren’t returned to us, making us go grab new ones. I ended up grabbing like a 15-20 pound ball because that was the next lightest one available on the racks. I ended up doing a lot better with a heavier ball than the lighter one. A few things to note: I don’t run up and throw, I walk up to the line, pause and then throw; I watched a few random videos on bowling and oils on the lane the previous two three days (they randomly appeared in my UA-cam recommended); I have never been able to bowl straight down the lane regardless of whether it’s real or a video game, the weight of the ball, etc, so I was standing off-center for my throws, throwing slowing and contesting on trying to keep the ball as straight as possible when throwing. Everyone in the group thought it was hilarious that the balls not returning and us having to get new ones benefited me significantly because my scores were a lot higher. To be fair, I’m pretty competitive in “solo” sports that require strategy and/or aim (golf, darts, frisbee, basketball throwing).
I threw 16 for a few years. I felt good until I had an elbow injury, and after I recovered it felt like I needed to help the ball too much, since the diffs tend to be a fair amount lower than the 15s. Having dropped down to 15, it definitely takes much less effort to create more shape.
5:50 speaking of heart rate, mine is usually around 68 when practicing, but it’s around 76-90 when I bowl with league I have to sit and work on my breathing during league nights to stay relaxed and calm 😅😅
In terms of raw power, definitely the 16lb. But listen to Ciminelli’s explanation at 2:53. A 14 and 16 lb ball will read the lanes a lot differently, so there’s no way to tell if one is objectively better than the other; that’s down to the bowler and the pattern.
my main strike balls are 15lbs but my spare ball is 12lb because i get way more control over where i place it and i dont have to throw it as hard to get it down the lane fast.
I had 2 balls that were 16. Loved how it made me really roll the ball and only problem is it hit too hard and i left a lot of 8 pins. I am of course left handed
16# may sound like too much of a burden over time until one realizes that sooner is better than later for maintaining the strength to handle 16#. Dropping in weight before you "have to" may have a net downside as one ages
Bowl 2 whole games and just decide winner on a 3 shot roll-off seems less than ideal. But I do love the feel of the PBA league when it's on TV. Much more energy than the normal broadcasts. I know you all are bowling for your livelihood, but the golf-like quietness is bad for the sport. Hitting a baseball is a million times harder than throwing a bowling ball and they have fans going crazy the whole time. Bowling needs noise, in my opinion, to seem less boring to casuals. And if you don't start attracting the casuals the sport will not last.
Packy you should always be the closer. You need to fight for that spot. You’ve earned it don’t ever say someone else on team should close match. It’s your team own that be the leader and kick butt!

I used to bowl with 14 and you do have to be a bit more accurate but it reacts the same as a 15 because of the core. It’ll feel lighter so you might feel like you can throw it faster but you gotta weigh the speed vs weight carry

I throw 16lbs. Great With Straighter Lane play. Once you get past 4th Arrow 16 doesn't bend the Corner Like 15lbs does from Deeper On The Lanes

Which is hitting the pocket harder? A 14 pounder at 17 mph or a 16 at 16.40 mph
the 16 lb. ball will have more power, drive- and this is big.....much less deflection- which is extremely important on light pocket hits.
