@@pulpomurphy5894 We started the middle of June. We had some rain the day before Mount Brandon. The day was nice on the day of Mount Brandon until we got to the top. It started to clear up after we headed down. I read that Mount Brandon can be iffy. We thought we were good until we got up there. It was crazy but it was short lived. We had rain gear and an umbrella that we used temporarily. Thanks for watching. I loved the Dingle Way. It was nice to take an extra day in Dingle. Hope you get to experience it.
Susie. I just found your videos. My husband and I did this hike in 2014 and it was so fun to watch all of your hike. My hubby passed away last year and it brought back so many memories!! We also stayed at Fahamore at the Castle View, but back then it was a dump! I can believe they updated it because it looked beautiful. Thank you for doing such a great job. I’m a believer too and I just loved all your comments. ❤. This summer I’m taking my daughter to do the Kerry Way. I just love Ireland so much!
Loved your comment. So sorry to read about your husband. It’s been my favorite place so far. I hope you and your daughter have an incredible time. ❤. God bless you.
Thank you so much. That was the intention. It helps to know ahead of time. It was such a great experience. The people were lovely. The food was good as well. The only day that was long was the day into Dingle. Our bnb was at the far end of town. Have the best time. ❤️
Sooo... unfortunately several parts of the Ireland-leg of my trip fell through and I've had to put off the Dingle Way for the time being... I did get over to Scotland and get some decent treks and walkabouts there, and it's a similar terrain/weather, so hoping this might be at all helpful... I used a 30L pack... this was perfect for me because I mostly stayed in hostels, though if you plan to stay at campgrounds you'll probably want a bigger pack. I only brought two pairs of shoes... for boots, the Columbia Newton Ridge boots--I *love* these so much, they were excellent and completely waterproof when laced up tight. At times I was literally just trudging through water and I got not a drop of water on my socks. And for non-hiking or just short walkabouts I just brought some trusty old Tevas. To save space in my pack I pretty much always wore the boots for travel days, even on trains, planes, etc., so that I could flat-pack my Tevas. Apart from that, you'll need a good rain shell that goes past your bum, and some rain pants--I ordered some nice ones via Amazon but then found when I got to Scotland that you can get cheapo ones from Mountain Warehouse for like £20 that do just as well (I think Ireland also has Mountain Warehouses). I also splurged on some convertible pants from North Face that were like the best purchase I've ever made. They're water resistant for light rain and they're quick drying, so I just washed them out with a bar of Dr. Bonner's soap every other night and they'd be dry by the morning (even with Scotland's wet air). I think they're the Bridgeway Zip-Off pants. Definitely would recommend :) ...That being said I'm sure there are different/more needs for the full Dingle Way. So maybe this isn't as helpful, but I'm just always excited to talk about hiking gear and Scotland whenever I get the chance lol... I do hope I can get over to Dingle someday, though. Maybe early next summer. @@caseycoughlin9101
Words can’t express how glad I am to have discovered your videos! My ancestors come from the Dingle Peninsula and my dream is to visit and walk that trail. Could you tell me what month you visited, and if you went by yourselves or with a group? And, did you ever feel unsafe on the trail? Thanks.
Thank you so much. My goal was to make these a tool for anyone wanting to walk the Dingle Way. We arrived on June 14 and left on July 2. We incorporated 3 days off into our walk to give us time to rest and/or enjoy the areas we were staying in. I made all of our reservations and we did not go with a group. We never felt unsafe. If you are interested you can DM on Instagram @thuthiehiker and I can give you more specific details. The places we booked were reasonable. The food was great everywhere. The people were friendly. This may be my favorite walk I did and we thoroughly enjoyed Ireland. We got very little rain. I hope you can make it. Trip of a lifetime.
tra as in trawler, tra is a beach and lee is the river that runs through the town, the town is part of the lee valley, it directly translates as beach lee, but it would more appropriately transfer into lee strand, does that make sense?
What transportation did you use to get from the Dublin airport to Tralee, and does it require prior reservations. Three Canadian ladies doing this hike this summer.
Oh my gosh. I hope you have the best time. It's been one of my favorite trips ever. The trail is pretty easy to follow. We used Alltrails. So excited for you. We took the train from Dublin. We took the local train to the train station and then bought our tickets there. Super easy. Everyone was so helpful. So don't be afraid to ask for help. It was a beautiful train ride. There were taxis in Tralee to take you to your hotel or B and B. You might be able to get your tickets online before you get there.
Hello planning on taking this adventure in June may I ask if you made your own accommodations? Or used a booking company? Would you share your itinerary and overnight bookings? Thank you in advance Lily
You’re going to love it. Susie had way better weather than we did and I was so happy for her first section. Just remember to stop when you’re tired and enjoy every moment. And we ate at pubs most nights and loved it, but we ate Fish Pie (the best) and scallops and lamb. And don’t forget STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING, and ice cream at Murphys in Dingle.
I didn’t see but a few tents here and there. I would do some more research. I found this online. Can you wild camp in Dingle? Wild Camping in Ireland: An Ultimate Guide - Mako56 With its rolling hills, pristine beaches, and stunning scenery, the Dingle Peninsula is the perfect destination for wild camping. Hope this helps.
I’m glad you enjoyed them. That was the main purpose. Dingle Way luggage. info@dinglewayluggage.ie price was reasonable. Our luggage was usually there before we were.
We walked about 2 miles an hour. Some days we took an hour for lunch and a 10 to 15 minute break depending on terrain. Here is my breakdown. We left each morning around 8:30 or 9. We took 3 days off. One in Dingle, one in Dunquin and one in Fahamore. It’s still my favorite trip. Tralee to Camp 13.03 Camp to Anascaul 11.2 Anascual to Dingle 16.9 Dingle to Ventry 5.0 Ventry to Dunquin 10.6 BallyFerriter to Feohanagh 5.6 Mount Brandon to Cloghane 11.8 Cloghane to Fahamore 10.8 Castlegregory to Camp 6.4 Total Miles Completed 91.3
