Great list! No Way Out is a deep cut that deserves to be here and would have been overlooked (or even unknown) by lesser listmakers.
Frailty had a good twist via the "God will protect me" line. I predicted the brother 'switch' fairly early on, but not the very end.
I love a movie smart enough to put in two twists: one that is fairly easy that you actually focus on, and then a second one that you never see coming because the first one was where you were putting your energy. It is my favorite.
Perhaps not a twist per se, but in A Beautiful Mind, when Charles is revealed to be a hallucination, and not John Nash's friend, was a complete surprise which I had not seen coming.
I was coming on to say the same. I mean I guess if you are familiar with the real person you may know he is schizophrenic but since the move was heavily dramatized I doubt it. Plus how many people these days know that much about historical mathematicians?
That scene freaked my friend out. He looked over at me, and said, “I can’t imagine finding out that you were just a hallucination, and that all this time I’ve just been driving to the park or something.” He mentions it from time to time even now.
A Beautiful Mind is pure Hollywood garbage. Read the book.
@@reverbscherzo7850 I came out of the cinema wondering if the world around was really real. Weird feeling.
That's exactly what I felt. I wondered if the world was real. Just shows how impactful the film was. Russell Crowe should have got an Oscar for that rather than for Gladiator (in which he was very good also)
No Way Out has probably the best scene of ultimate confidence ever filmed. Farrell (Costner) tells - TELLS - Susan (Sean Young) that she's very impressed with him. She says no, to which he replies, "Yeah, you are", at which point he just walks away. She of course follows, and the legend is born.
You talk about twist endings in criminally underseen movies. I got one for you: Salvage (2006). I won't spoil it here, but it's op there with Kyser Sozé in mind-blowing reveals.
Not sure it qualifies as "never saw it coming" but I really enjoyed the twist of Logan Lucky. Really well done.
That was pretty good as I recall. Needa watch that again soon
I think that the Murder on the Orient Express twist is the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen.
Except it was a well known book which had been referenced for decades. Even M*A*S*H* did their own sendup on the book. (SPOILER BELOW)
Radar is on the phone mentioning how someone ripped out the last pages of a book. (paraphrasing from memory)
"How did it end?...They all didi it?...Wow."
Given that we all know that despite claiming to the contrary, Lucas was making it up as he went along, I have often wondered the intent with the Darth Vader reveal at the end of The Empire Strikes back.
Was it that Darth Vader WAS Anakin Skywalker?
Or are we discovering that actually Anakin was not Lukes real dad but the separate character who is Darth Vader is- as throughout those first 2 films Darth is treated as a completely different individual.
Naturally we discover in the next film they were 1 and same but I've always been curious if that was always the intent.....
The parentage twist in Chinatown is probably as earthshattering as the twist in Empire.
Shade (2003) & Mindhunters (2004)
The Prestige
No. I asked my sister why Bale was playing two roles at the very beginning.
I'm going to have to rewatch No Way Out and The Sting. It's been so long I barely remember more than they were both very good movies. In the first I recall, having spent the whole time investigating and finally concluding there was no Yuri, the revelation that the man conducting the investigation was Yuri all along was jaw-dropping.
I had forgot about No Way Out, I remember the twist ending shocking me. That was a good one. Also, the great movie Primal Fear, both book and movie were great with the twist.
How about the first Mission Impossible movie. Did anyone go into that movie thinking Phelps was the bad guy? That really pissed off a LOT of the fans of the original television series.
I mean I saw the ryan Gosling from a mile away because he is literally me
Same. Also saw Keaton ( vulture) as Peter's girlfriends dad a thousand yards away
I thought it was funny that they showed the part that was a dead giveaway of who was actually Deckard and Rachael's child: when she teared up watching the memory, which was obviously hers, not K's... 😆
Alien, Ash is an android. At no point during the movie was it even suggested that androids exist in that universe, particularly ones that can pass for human. Anyone who says they saw it coming is either a liar, or they've seen so much sci fi that they have more false positives than hits.
Was Frailty on the previous list? If not, it certainly deserves to be on the list.
Diggstown (1992). The Sting meets Rocky. Louis Gossett Jr., Bruce Dern, Oliver Platt and Heather Graham. The ending/twist is a stand up out of your seat WTF!
No mention of Fight Club or The Sixth Sense ? Incredible.
I'll have to go find that interview with David Prowse cause I thought I heard when filming, Prowse (who was voicing Vader's lines) actually said Obi-wan was Luke's father and Hamill was told separately before James Earl Jones provided the real line in a later voice over. (Pretty sure this was also referenced by Hamill during a talk show when he did his perfect Harrison Ford impression of "You never told me that.")
I remember seeing now way out I. High school and could never remember what movie it was. It was a great twist
The Machinist (2004)
I think you may have missed the point of the Primal Fear reveal because his name is legally Aaron but since the abuse he has always been Roy.
9 more movie twists YOU genuinely never saw coming.
I love Deadman shoes. NIce to see it get some love
Primal Fear is one of my favorites
The twist in “beneath the planet of the ape” was also surprising (there are no apes in the movie, only bald human cultists)
Dead Man's Shoes is amazing!
Came to say this. I was so impressed by this movie. When he knocks on the drug den door, and then just stands there in his fatigues and that has mask, it was utterly chilling.
How is homecoming a plot twist? This is literally the plot of every reboot movie
Incident In A Ghostland had an awesome twist.
The original Planet Of The Apes end with the beached Statue Of Liberty head was iconic.
Damn how many Adams does this channel have!?
Lucky Number Slevin had a nice pay off
My favirte modern twist was the lego movie!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
More recently I loved the Homecoming reveal I like most ppl were like, WHHAAATTTT..Also, I remember when I was younger and rented the movie “Identity” that was a great reveal as well, not sure if you mentioned it in the previous video forgive me if you did I didn’t catch the upload.
I certainly never saw the twists of The Knowing and The Forgotten coming
David Prowse didn't actually know that Darth Vader was Luke's father. The scene hadn't been filmed yet and George Lucas had told no one. Even while filming Prowse and Mark Hamill were given fake lines and only James Earl Jones was given the correct line for his voice over. Hamill was later told when he filmed the scene in the Millennium Falcon where he answers, "Father?" to Vader's call. Prowse was speculating in that interview, but that was still a no-no and Lucas held a grudge until Prowse died. Prowse was even filmed in Ep.6 having the mask removed and for the Force ghost scene at the end, but Lucas later brought in Sebastian Shaw and reshot both scenes without Prowse's knowledge. I've read that there was a legal thing because of a clause in Prowse's contract where his face was never scene, but Lucas got around that saying that they filmed it but used other footage due to artistic license, and the judge bought it. His spitefulness is one reason I don't really like George Lucas. He became the King-shit of Star Wars and his ego caused him to make some seriously bad decisions.
Imagine finding out one of your enemies is the parent of your love interest and if Starwars the empire strikes back came out today quite a few people would be annoyed if the greatest plot twist in Starwars history was spoiled all over the internet
"Now that we know who you are, I know who I am."
Regarding Star Wars, the radio play of "Star Wars" had Leia's torture scene, wherein he is calling Darth Vader "father."
To be fair though, the radio drama came out in 81, so that part may have been added as a bit of a retcon.
that blade runner 2049 twist, they tried to do something similar with the last jedi, people just whined about it though and they retconned it in the rise of skywalker.
The fact that Liz appears to be African American certainly helps conceal this twist. Most people will naturally assume her parents are as well. So this is kind of cheating when you consider that most people don’t consider that children have mixed heritage parents.
It is strange, you mention "The six Sense" but do not include it in the list. Though it was one of most surprising twists in movie history.
Where is Hans being the villain in Frozen?!
A horror movie called the collector had some twists and in my opinion was greatly underrated and is worth a watch. They did a sequel but it sucked.
If even I saw it coming, Planet of the Apes had an obvious plot twist. Dude, the planet had apes, humans and horses. At what point were we supposed to assume that it wasn't Earth?
The only one of these I disagree with is the Spider-Man 1 I don't understand how no 1 saw that coming As soon as he started being introduced to a love Interest in the movie I immediately knew that the vulture was gonna be her dad.
I think this is the one time where being familiar with the source material left you knowing less. In the comics Adrian Tooms (the Vulture) has no connection to Liz at all. In fact Liz is step sister to another villain, the Molten Man.
@davidwiley4953 yeah that's fair I do know a decent amount about the comics but just know they like to try and change things for Adaptations and as far as the vulture character I never read to many stories with him
Trust me. Your not the only one who saw that a mile away
I agree. I don't usually spot twists, but certain things don't even seem like twists. When I saw season six of Dexter, I assumed immediately after seeing Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks that it was supposed to be a mirror image of Dexter and his father, with Colin being haunted by the dead professor. It never even dawned on me that that was intended to be a twist. Same exact thing for Spider-Man. I loved the movie, but I assumed the vulture was her dad. That's been done in hundreds of comedies and dramas - a character you have a relationship with turns out to be someone you then meet in a completely unexpected context later. I didn't realize that was supposed to be a twist; I thought it was a joke: "just wait until you find out who Liz's dad is, Spidey!". I loved the movie, but I didn't think that was a real twist.
@tommymarx391 glad to see other people not caught by surprise on this one sometimes I think people just don't pay attention and them call it a twist when it all comes together and they missed the lead up
TBH, I think everyone knew Liz and Adrian were related. There had to be a connection. It's actually very typical in movies where a teen is attracted to someone else who is related to their antagonist.
Why is house of the flying dagger not here?
Spiderman, not really a big twist had to feel like something like that was going to happen because the movie is SPIDER MAN not "teenage angst romcom" so the whole 'going to prom' bit had to lead to something.
And yeah Darth Vader was Luke's father big twist... unless you know German, then you're like "that sounds a lot like Darth Father"
Could someone please inform editor, Stephen Reynolds, about the difference between The Lego Movie and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part please?
🤦🤦🤦🤦
Amazing video Adam from what culture, fantastic job. That twist from the Lego movie that it’s a kid imagination for real world ruined the movie for me ever. Blade runner 2049 is the only I could not sit through all the way through because it’s keeping putting me to sleep. Because it’s so god danm boring ever.
a hallucination* not an
Fight Club
WhatCulture and their recycled lists. I feel like I’ve seen this list at least 3 times before. All those writers and this is what we get?
@4:00 or this is what a psychopath tells himself (perspective of the movie), your choice... a twist or unfortunate reality ;)
Psychopaths have a personality disorder which is characterized by antisocial behavior and a lack of remorse. They have a full grasp of reality. It is a completely separate thing from DID. In other words, if he says he was malingering, he was probably telling the truth, knowing that double jeopardy exists. I have been an RN for 26 yrs, and I am state certified to teach classes on mental illness and developmental disabilities, so I do know about the subject matter.
I hated the end of No way out. All this time the audience hopes that he eventually finds a way out. And when he does, and you are glad and relieved, he turns out to be a bad guy. I was angry about that. I felt cheated and laughed at.
You Never *Saw* Coming
the usual suspects has a good twist as well!
All of these except for Darth Vader.
Plot twist what culture drops a new vid for plot twist, uses same old list they already done 🙃
I hate seeing Primal Fear in these plot twist lists. It was freaking obvious.
Not for most people… but I am sure you are just super smart and special and stuff. 🥱🤷🏼♀️
@@baxtersmom279 THANK YOU! I've been telling people for years!
Stars Wars too..... are yall running out of content?
No more movie twist videos, please!
Please stop taking the Lord's name in vain.
