    These stories are rare but always appreciated. HUGE respect for any NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA player that walks away on their own accord to pursue a true passion & interest. I never knew any of this about Rashard and it's awesome to see him thriving off the field.

    Rashad was a stud at Illinois. Thought he was gonna be a great in the league, but he never recovered from that fumble in the Super Bowl.

      Jesse Garcia dude we aren’t even at week 10 yet and that o line the panthers have is shit. He’s more of a receiving back his dad was used to be the broncos best receiver back in the day so don’t be giving my boy shit when his stats look just fine at this point

    • @8MoneyIzmyMission8
      @8MoneyIzmyMission8 7 років тому +1

      Jesse Garcia I knew when he was drafted that high that the GM made another dumbass mistake. Nothing McCaffrey did screamed first rounder let alone top 10. What's even funnier is that they went a bit later in the draft and drafted the same type of player from Ohio State.
      If they wanted a receiver, there were a shit ton of them. If they wanted a RB, this draft was loaded with them as well as next year's. He averages less than 8 yards a catch and less than 2.5 yards per carry. Any black RB doing that bad, no matter what team he played for, and people would have been shtting on him. Remember all the shit people were giving Melvin Gordon? People actually take up for this ridiculously crappy production, and it's so obvious why.

    I go to a small D-3 school in the suburbs of Chicago. For extra credit, I had to go to the fourth floor into the small chapel, and listen to a monk speak about why he is a monk for our small d-3 school. I was taken off guard when the monk made a shout out to Mendenhall, who was in the audience and also wanted to hear what he had to say. It was a mix of cool and bizare to run into him at such a small small event. I was happy that I ended up saying hello and getting a picture with him.

    Mendenhall had it tough in Pittsburgh. He had to follow beloved stars Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker, and didnt start his career off well. His 9 / 11 comments did not help and to this day the super bowl losing fumble is what Steeler fans first think of when they here his name and Mendenhall to this day said it haunts him. However, looking back, he was a solid player and Im glad hes doing well with his lifes work

    Illinois players aren’t like a lot of football schools around the country. They make people show up and try at school. Unlike an LSU or an Alabama where football players don’t really have to do anything. So Illinois gets a lot of smart young men who have true passions off the field. I might be biases because the fighting Illini football team is my favorite team in all of sports. We have lived through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The Mendenhall days much like the Nathan Scheelhaase and Mikel Leshoure days have been some of my favorite moments in sports history

    You can’t really call Mendenhalls season with the cards good. He got those 687 yards on like 220 attempts thus giving him the nickname “3 yard rashard”

    the 911 comments got people mad, which is unfortunate cuz thats his view and he shouldnt be killed for it. I remember he killed my jets in 2010 in the AFC Champ game with like over 200 yrds. Damn him but great game. Talented dude.

    Another relevant thing you coulda picked on was when Rashard, a very active tweeter, made some real controversial statements on Twitter about Osama bin Laden and 9/11. I thought the controversy was unfair because Rasard, being a deep intelligent man was just expressing his heartfelt opinions and in a very thoughtful way, but fair or not, the Steelers fanbase, not known as liberal thinkers as a whole, and I'm a Steelers fan, just raked him over the coals and the org wasn't exactly keen on his comments. This, along with the SB fumble and his injuries of course, really accelerated his ticket out of town. I really respect the man though, but like any other workplace, the NFL doesn't exactly support free expression. And his success after football only goes to show what kind of special guy he is.

    Hey flemlo.. great video! I was always impressed how he beat out Pierre Thomas in college.. Thomas was a very good running back at the time.. this pretty much made him go under after in NFL... Rashad also wanted to play with his older brother at Illinois I believe...

      He overslept, missed practice and got benched after a 200 yard game. Instead of being a man and taking it he decided to disrespect the pats way of doing things then they cut him
