These stories are rare but always appreciated. HUGE respect for any NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA player that walks away on their own accord to pursue a true passion & interest. I never knew any of this about Rashard and it's awesome to see him thriving off the field.
I live in Pittsburgh. We hated that dude so bad. We had some wild names for him. But, like Flem said we put people in a box and I'm glad he's doing well

Jesse Garcia He was “trash” just like a lot of the other guys in this series when he made it to the NFL, but also like a lot of other guys in this series he was raw in college. And like every other interesting story that Flem has done i wanna know what the story was behind it
Jesse Garcia he was a beast when AP went down when he played for AP as a backup he would go off... but once he got his opportunity to be a starter on the Jags he fell off
Jesse Garcia dude we aren’t even at week 10 yet and that o line the panthers have is shit. He’s more of a receiving back his dad was used to be the broncos best receiver back in the day so don’t be giving my boy shit when his stats look just fine at this point
Jesse Garcia I knew when he was drafted that high that the GM made another dumbass mistake. Nothing McCaffrey did screamed first rounder let alone top 10. What's even funnier is that they went a bit later in the draft and drafted the same type of player from Ohio State. If they wanted a receiver, there were a shit ton of them. If they wanted a RB, this draft was loaded with them as well as next year's. He averages less than 8 yards a catch and less than 2.5 yards per carry. Any black RB doing that bad, no matter what team he played for, and people would have been shtting on him. Remember all the shit people were giving Melvin Gordon? People actually take up for this ridiculously crappy production, and it's so obvious why.
As a lifelong Buckeye fan I sure as hell remember Rashad. What a great video and a great story of an exceptional young man. You make the best videos and I hope u don’t quit to pursue anything else anytime soon ! Thank you.
There was a RB that kept Mendenhall on the bench his first two yrs of college. His name: Pierre Thomas, Super Bowl winning RB of the New Orleans Saints. And one of the best RBs on screen passes.
He did exactly what any man who respects himself, and loves himself would. Truly respect how you had to stop and explain how he had dreams..great video. Thanks.
Growing up about 2 and a half hours from champaign Illinois I remembered him playing for Illinois he was a beast. I was so pumped that he was drafted in the 1st round even though growing up a Vikings fan and being best friends with a Steelers fan this video I'm so glad this video came out. I have been asking myself for awhile what happened to him. Glad I saw this in my recommended

I go to a small D-3 school in the suburbs of Chicago. For extra credit, I had to go to the fourth floor into the small chapel, and listen to a monk speak about why he is a monk for our small d-3 school. I was taken off guard when the monk made a shout out to Mendenhall, who was in the audience and also wanted to hear what he had to say. It was a mix of cool and bizare to run into him at such a small small event. I was happy that I ended up saying hello and getting a picture with him.
I don't watch Illinois football to much cause I am a die hard bama fan but Illinois was really pretty good back then with Rashad and Juice Williams at QB.. Another great vid flem. I enjoy them.
ONE THING THE NARRATOR DIDN'T say with the Steelers, the brother was asked about 911, I believe he stated that we all know 911 was a inside job. It was down hill from there. Minister Farrakhan went on to prove the brothers case. Salaam
Man I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I've been binge watching your videos ever since. I really really enjoy your storytelling skills. You officially have a dedicated subscriber and fan now, my friend! Keep up the great work!
Man has anyone ever told you just how good of a story teller you are? I mean I'm sure you've heard it like everyday but damn, you know how to hold people's attention by just pure communication skills alone Keep these videos going!
Would you consider doing a video on Robert Smith from the Vikings. He has a beast back in the mid 90's & then just retired. It surprised everyone. However, he was incredibly intelligent and I believe he pursued a medical degree afterward.
FlemLo is a natural born, gifted story teller. With his insightful, entertaining, and well-researched videos, he adds more dimension our understanding of often forgetten athletes. This intelligent and talented young man will go far and do great things...
A very powerful piece of work Rashad mendenhall is a perfect example of how a person should take control of his life as be able to stand on it even in the face of ridicule I applaud that brother
All I can say is GOOD FOR HIM. It is good to see a guy use the NFL as a means to an end instead of the other way around. I wish more guys would learn from this man.
This situation reminds me of the quote at the end of the movie The Last Samurai. "He may have at last, found some small measure of piece, that we all seek and few of us ever find." Such powerful words that I can relate to, but that is a story for another time. Keep up the great work Lo!!
Frederick Burns orrrr we can do what ever happened to Frederick Burns.... oh wait nevermind we all know your still dealing with your "burn". Cream will help that by the way kid
Mendenhall had it tough in Pittsburgh. He had to follow beloved stars Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker, and didnt start his career off well. His 9 / 11 comments did not help and to this day the super bowl losing fumble is what Steeler fans first think of when they here his name and Mendenhall to this day said it haunts him. However, looking back, he was a solid player and Im glad hes doing well with his lifes work
Good for Rashad. Showed he could excel at a high level in the world of athletics and the world of creative arts. Still only 33 years ago. A great life ahead of this young man.

Illinois players aren’t like a lot of football schools around the country. They make people show up and try at school. Unlike an LSU or an Alabama where football players don’t really have to do anything. So Illinois gets a lot of smart young men who have true passions off the field. I might be biases because the fighting Illini football team is my favorite team in all of sports. We have lived through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The Mendenhall days much like the Nathan Scheelhaase and Mikel Leshoure days have been some of my favorite moments in sports history
You can’t really call Mendenhalls season with the cards good. He got those 687 yards on like 220 attempts thus giving him the nickname “3 yard rashard”
The Remember the Titans reference got me thinking that we need to have some flemlo videos on guys like Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell, coaches Boone and Yoast, etc.
