When Glenn at TheBlueMimic reached out to me asking if I would do a video showing me painting up the Demogorgon dice, I was like - "Duh. That's awesome!" And so here we are! I have seen him and a few others paint the d20 on Instagram before, and so I was intimidated and didn't think that I'd be able to make mine look nearly as good. In the end though, I feel like I created something super unique, and that I can easily say that I am proud of!
The spittle technique really turned these dice up to 11 in my opinion. I need to figure out how to make it so you can SEE that stuff in the resin :)

nice love the dice
I’d love to see dice with little feathers in them! Like Aarakocra dice?
Ooof Too soon man... too soon.
Brutal
Ouch.
Can we please talk about the reflected/UPSIDE DOWN 6 and 20, thats just clever.
Right? TheBlueMimic is crazy good :)
HUGE thank you to TheBlueMimic for his amazing Demogorgon Dice designs. You rock my friend :)
Also it has totally come to my attention that 'Building Character' already exists as a name. Great minds think alike I guess! Might reconsider this going forward, or I might try and get him on the show, idk :)
So that's how you balanced them I was wondering how you were gonna do that
@@joshvalera3996 Yeah I was a dumbo lol. TheBlueMimic already had me covered, I was just a dingus and didn't put 2 and 2 together
Question, to get those spit strings to show, could you coat them in a slightly tinted gloss and then cast in super clear resin?
suggestion: next time you'd make encased dice like this, especially for monster parts like this set, you should go for an off-clear resin to get that "Fluid Preserved" look! it'd make it look like the monster was being "saved" by an alchemist or what have you!
this would also be a solution to being unable to see the spittle. A little colour in either the resin or the glue would let you still see them
Oh now there's an idea! Maybe a slight green/yellow color :)
@@qvatch I'm glad I looked in the comments, cause I was gonna suggest the same thing lol.
Wow. The gloss and glue really do what they're intended to, it's really disgusting, congrats haha 😅
My aim is to please/disgust :) haha
Those puns were great and I don’t even watch stranger things. Great Job Rybonator
Phew, hard to make universal puns without sounding too STRANGE ;D
it's not the best show and even if it's pretty teenager oriented it's still a great show you should check it out!
Going all out with the puns as usual lol. How much time do you spend coming up with dad jokes before a video? Those dice look absolutely amazing by the way!
A solid 20 minutes this time lol. Trying to fit 11 puns in 16 seconds is rough :P
Glad you like them! :)
You beat me to saying this! :)
I'm gonna be honest, I never watched stranger things but this looks cool
Oh dang, you gotta give it a shot :)
@@Rybonator defo
go watch it. it's good
I need to watch season two and three.
I just got some dice molds and I'm gonna start making my own dice thanks to you
That's awesome Corbin! Best of luck on your dice making journey :)
Yup, I’m working on 3D modeling/supporting/printing a dice set for a friend who wants to get into molding dice based off of your videos
If those are Blue Mimic squish molds I might actually finally be willing to part with some monies. I've been on the fence for a while but I'd back that KS.
Can't talk about it, but more info coming soon! :)
Applying "Primer" on an Amazon "Prime" box. You got to a whole new level of pun there Rybonator.
On other things...
1- Twintig pretending to ba a demogorgon... Man I love this little fella.
2- I am subscribing right now to level up'S Twitch, I rewally enjoyed your critical convergence stream so I will watch that when I can
3- Man those would be freaking nice in the next season of Stranger Things hope you can get them in there !
You know, always gotta top myself :)
How can we get Finn Wolfhard to get the set and put it on the show? hmmm :P
@@Rybonator if I can, I will spam mail him until he blocks my e-mail haha
These are amazing! Seriously great work, I would totally buy an "only-for-show" demogorgon dice with the spit! Very very cool!
Right? I just want it to intimidate my other dice at the table haha
bruh these are amazing I would buy these in a heartbeat
Thanks Breh! I am not sure, but TheBlueMimic may sell the prints at some point :)
Ngl. When I saw the thumbnail I thought the dice were a combo of wood and resin. This is cooler than I thought it was.
Now a wooden set sounds pretty dope honestly haha :)
How about dying the glue with a bit of yellow or blue to keep the effect in the resin?
Great idea! Might have to do that in the future :)
@@Rybonator DO IT WITH GREEN!! gelatinous cube dice!!!!
Or even dry brushing the glue strands with a bit of clear matte or touch of thinned out white.
@@JJJacey ah, you guys all beat me to it! XD
Something something algorithm, blah blah ad revenue, ladee-dah comment and like because the UA-cam overlords demand it.
We got your back, buddy ;)
Much appreciated Raven :) You da best
"God I'm good at transitions..."
This is why I love you rybonator. So real.
REAL good at transitions, let me talk to you about skillshare! ;p
These look amazing! I saw an idea from another commenter that reccomended using a clear gloss to paint over the spittle, so when you cast the resin it is easier to see! I thought it seemed like a pretty good idea!
That is a solid idea! Round 2 here I come :)
The matte black primed dice looked really nice honestly, but I love the final product.
I honestly thought about going with the matte black and a red. Would have been pretty neat anyway :)
@@Rybonator *Oh my god I've been acknowledged by Dice Dad* Oh yeah, I'm a sucker for both of those colours, but you really killed it on the detail work, especially the tiny little teeth.
they look kinda like mimics in a way! its nice to see the indepth of painting them also and that you tested cheaper paint on it too, amazing end result!
And made by TheBlueMIMIC! Makes sense :) haha
You could retry making it and adding a light pigment to the glue so the spit stands out more. Because I think it's because they were the same kind of clear that made it disappear when cast in resin.
Yeah good point, might have to try and fix it for round 2 :)
I love these holy crap. I think i like the ones not encased better. You kinda lose the shine you put on there too. But they are so freaking rad. I also love that the 20 is backwards!!!
Or, UPSIDE DOWN ;D
Yeah I like it without, but it's darn cool either way :) Glad you like them!
If you try your hand at these dice again you could always try to dye the the spit into a translucent white or maybe even add some glow powder to it.
Good point! That might just be what's needed :)
This is SOOOO COOOOOOOL
Thanks Elexsis :) Glad you like them!
I think blood for the blood god technical paint would be good for the but it looks amazing either way
If Covid wasn't happening I would have looked through my local store, but alas, this red would have to do. You are probably right though :)
If creativity was highly illegal, I swear you'd be the first to go
YOU CAN'T KEEP ME LOCKED UP! ALL I DID WAS TURN MOON ROCK INTO DICE!
This is objectively not true
the intro is another level and plane of reality
Almost like the Upside Down? Say hi to Will! :)
My man these are sick
Thanks Random Guy :) Super happy with them
Would the spit work if you dyed it first? Mix the glue with some inks or perhaps use a resin like blackmagiccraft sometimes does to get droplet effects. That way when you encase the dice in clear resin it'll still show
That's absolutely worth a shot! :)
Just throwing this out there, if anyone wants to imitate the “die stuck in a peg” thing he does for painting , something similar can be done with hot glue and a pill bottle (hot glue gets broken-down/weakened by rubbing alcohol, so that’s how you get it off). Something I wish I knew when I started painting minis and other small scale things.
Great tip Waltrz! :)
You primed the dice while on the Amazon prime box, amazing
I am a prime pun master!
These looks absolutely fantastic! I wonder how they would look with Citadel's Blood for the Blood God technical paint, as it is basically a "blood" paint that is a bit sticky and leaves a glossy blood-like effect when it dries!
I should have gone for that, but I didn't wanna brave covid to get some paint haha. Next time!
Wow, these are excellent! I feel like you could get away with some (hella gentle) drybrushing of white/gray onto those saliva strands and the resulting effect would still stand out in the encasing!
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
Everyone who started watching Rybonator before he quit his job is an OG.
Y'all OG's sticking around got me here :)
@@Rybonator original goblin
I am og
I think the bubble on he d6 actually kinda adds juuust a bit more character with this set. Sort of like the last little bubble of the demigorgon submerging back into the upside down, or something to that effect haha!
THEN IT WAS TOTALLY PLANNED ;D
you could add a tiny bit of white paint to the glue bits to make it so you can see it, even after encasing them.
Great looking dice, but more importantly : Great Skill Share transition!
It’s amazing that you’re so good at the transitions, but still humble about them too. 🤣
Isn't it? I'm just the most humble person in the world.
Monster dice? Sounds like a new magic item I can give my players 👀
A cursed item, nothing happens if they roll it. But if they roll a 1, it attacks them as if created by the animate objects spell! :)
These dice look awesome! Gets me thinking what other types of dice you might be able to make. Maybe some gelatinous cube style ones?
Oh now there's a thought :)
I love how these turned out! The spit looks so good! Would it maybe work to color the spit before encasing the dice in the final coat of resin? It wouldn’t look as realistic, but maybe it would help it show up better?
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
For the strands of spit, I might have an idea. There is this 2 part epoxy that comes in syringes that you have to mix to activate it. It takes paint well, so maybe you could mix some white in, then use a toothpick to drag it across the teeth. It dries fast and rock hard. Then you could encase them in resin. The color might help make the strands more apparent.
That might be worth giving a shot! I think I have some of that in supply.
Dice goblin eating the D20 during the outro is an absolute vibe. Amazing work as always!
He's always willing to eat any spare math rocks haha. Thanks Conor!
I used to watch you and for whatever reason I stopped, but ever since I’ve been eating d&d vids since my friends wont play with me, I have started to watch your videos again. You are so so so talented.
Thank you Silver :) That means a lot. I hope you have as good a night as this comment made me feel!
I'm sure the "spittle" would show up after encasing in resin if you mixed the glue with a white/silver ink/pigment first then applied it, that way it's not clear like the resin and will show up.
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
first of all, congrats on getting a sponsor & even branching out into streams, been following your channel from quite early on and so proud to see you grow as a quality creator.
Secondly, I find acrylic (typically works well virgin but adding a splash of liquid latex gets almost citadel paint quality) or proper citadel paint always grips well to 3d print resin (typically use nova 3d or elegoo so mileage may vary). Gesso is also pretty good if you want a more rough finish - works great on PLA too!
Good to know! I hadn't even thought of that, might have to give it a shot with the liquid latex :)
Also thank you! Hope to be constantly improving!
Oh my god these are INSANE I love them!
Glad you like them Aira :)
LOVE the blood smear/slime one. The finished ones in resin lack depth since it made everything uniform gloss.
Such a cool idea and design, can't wait to hear more about his kickstarter :O.
Agreed - Wish I would have just done both that way :)
@@Rybonator Well now you can use these if you run the Stranger Things module, so that's worth it.
These dice look realy epic
Thank you I.Z :)
You can add ink to the e6000 to make the strands of spittle show up once they have been encased in resin. I do this with UHU glue all the time for minis and it works a treat.
Hey, we can try! Experimentation is magic :)
If you wanted to create the saliva in the filled method you could dye the glue. A very thinned white (or a gray) would make some frothy pattern swirls in the glue. I did this on a mini to give it the dripping blood from from a mouth of an orc that frenzied look.
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
I just subbed, and this is the first video you’ve uploaded since, love the content, keep it up
Nice! Great start to earning that sub from you I hope!
Those are straight up the coolest dice I’ve ever seen! I give em 11 eggos out of 11
mix that glue with a drop of white for the spittle and then encase it in clear resin for v2?
That's a great idea! :)
DEMO-DICE DEMO-DICE
DEMO DICE DEMO DICE
these are insane!
I'm SUPER proud of how they turned out :)
10:15 ah yes, the all powerful Frodoshop
The one Frodoshop to rule them all
just a quick thought, you could paint over the spit lines with a very light yellow tone(or just make them ever so slightly yellow) before encasing it. that way you could still see them. it wouldn't be quite the same as the 3d effect tho
Still absolutely worth a shot! I'll try that in round 2 :)
dude, these are so awesome!
No u :)
Also thank you haha
Idea for the spittle, you could probably paint over it lightly with a bit of white paint before encasing it, that way you could still sort of see it
Round 2 can only be better :)
Please do a video on repairing dice that come out with bubbles or voids! I know this might not be as much of an issue for you since you're an expert with a pressure pot, but it would be a really helpful how to for us beginners that keep coming up with failed experiments!
these look amazing! The blood smudges on the numbers was a good idea
A happy little accident to be sure :)
They do look like mimics in dice form and honestly I love that
Now those are some dangerous click clacks
So how different is encasing dice in resin to making a fresh set?
Not too bad, just like putting anything else in dice. Just put some resin in, put the other dice in, and then pour more resin on top :)
@Michael Verbroekken Since it's all made of resin, I'd think that wouldn't matter much, at least from a balance perspective. Visually I'd think it would only really be noticeable if the mold you're encasing within is significantly larger. These ones seemed to be nearly the same size, so as long as some resin wound up on each face, it wouldn't be a huge problem.
I do think he could've avoided the bubbles on the d6 if he'd painted resin into the nooks before putting it into the mold... but maybe not, as resin shrinks and if some spots can't pull other resin from anywhere (like inside the 6), you still might get a recess.
also, a nice way to save some failed "bubbled" dice proyects... great proyect!
True! Lord knows I have plenty of them haha
I definitely would suggest looking for Blood for the Bloodgod from the Citidale line for a better blood color. It's one of my favorite colors and really looks like blood as is without any kind of extra glossing.
I'll have to get me some of that! :)
@@Rybonator Def worth it! USed it one some of my minis and it just soooo good.
You could try and use a tint in the glue on the spittle to give it a slightly different colour?
Then you can encase them and still see the spittle too. Can paint them a little silvery maybe?
Absolutely worth giving a shot to :) Round 2 here I come!
@@Rybonator Hope it works out! Love your content. It involves my three favourite things. Dice, Dice and..... Dice.
maybe if you encased them in like an off-white/really diluted yellow, so the more clear spit shows up?
Great idea! Might have to try that next time :)
I suggest next time for the spittle to show up when being encased in resin is to paint a little bit of white onto the spittle. That way you can see the white lines suspended through the clear resin.
For future reference, Apple barrel is also one of the cheapest acrylic paints so the nutmeg not sticking was probably in part because of that
THESE ARE SO FREAKING COOL!!!!
Thank you! I'm super happy with how they came out :)
These are wicked! I would totally have them just for show though because they looked really cool with the spit and shiny blood aspects.
I just gotta combine them to make the best of both worlds :)
If you stir in just a TINY amount of pearlescent white or pink even into the glue for your spit strands they will stand out a little better and will show even when encased
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
Rybonator another thought i had was maybe use some very thin translucent fabric (like moisture guard for plants? The stuff thats kinda like pressed spiderwebbing? But the really thin version) and color it to be a sort of bloodied flesh tone that you can string along where they might have external tendons and stuff pulling the mouths shut, just a fun thought. Would likely work better with the more ashy-African hardwood-dark leather color palette some of them seem to have rather than the super light chestnut-doe leather. But might still work.
Could potentially use the clear glue strands to suspend small “food particulate” in the clear resin too, make it look like chunks o flesh and dice and neighborhood dogs are falling from the teeth. If you do do it again blackened or even like gunmetal silvered teeth or rotten colored might look more monstrous than white. If they could be pointier even more so but thats more on the mold’s end.
now you have that slightly larger blank mold, it would be interesting to see what other crazy things you could do with the concept of an irregular dice inside a clear shell
Citadel also has a technical paint called Blood for the Blood God. Its probably the best paint i've found for painting blood! You should check that out! Love your content.
I'm absolutely gonna have to get some of that :)
Next video: making a resin shrine for your spittle dice and other absolute gems you bless us with
Oh that would actually be a fun idea haha :)
If you mix a tiny bit of titanium dioxide with the glue you can make sliiiiiightly milky white strands that are visible after you encase with resin :)
Maybe, if you were to make another set, you could mix a tiny touch of white into the glue before encasing in resin?
That way they'd be balenced AND you can still see the spittle details
That'll be what I'll try in round 2 :)
The spit strands get lost because the glue has a refractive index too similar to the resin. Most epoxies and epoxy resins are around 1.5 so maybe something like the clear mold silicone or hot glue would be different enough to still be visible. Still very cool to look at either way!
I have a suggestion for how you could make the spittle appear when encased in resin, but does need to know how fast the glue cures. how about you either mix in some glitter or even coat it with glitter before doing the encasing
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
you could probably mix in a little yellow or blue coloring into the glue to make it show up in the resin.
Might have to give that a shot in round 2! :)
the D20 with the spit lines looks absolutely amazing!
Very cool
Love the stranger things and those dice are BA
Thanks Rivers :) I'm happy with how they turned out
your projects are insane, but more importantly hos do you keep making such wonderful puns?
We used the glue technic (with a hot glue gun) a lot in theater to get certain stage effects, and now I use it yearly for spiderweb recreation while decorating for halloween. HOWEVER, it works best using white hot glue sticks instead of clear. Many have commented about dying the glue to let it show up inside the resin, so this is my twist on it. White glue instead of clear.
Good point! I was afraid of the hot glue melting the paint job, so I went with this. Hot glue would be a great solution! :) Thanks Claire!
When it comes to making dice I am such a Newby... I make a mess and keep dropping my broom... it never ends well
Holy shite those are some cool looking dice! 😲
Oh! And hello from Denmark (4.25pm) 😄🇩🇰👍
Hej min ven! Glad you like the dice Stina :) The first person from Denmark who I know watches my vids, that's awesome!
These dice look absolutely awesome (and really scary, but that's the point)! If you want to make one you can play with and keep the spitt, maybe you could mix a bit of white (or glitter because everyone loves glitter) into the glue? I have no idea if that works, but it might be worth a shot?
It looks like the flying meatballs from that steven king movie
I love these dice. Especial the one with the stringy spit. These are awesome
holy crap i love these ones so much
GLad you like them! :)
These make my nose bleed. These look amazing. I'm wondering if it's possible to substitute the "glue spit" with something like stretched (clear) sprue to have it come out in the encasement. It's a technique used for making ship rigging and such on models. Also, ITC Benguiat font on the dice faces for the win as well!
That might be a great idea! My solution was going to be mixing the glue with some white alcohol ink. I'll have to try both!
I really hope the primer on the Amazon Prime labeled box was intentional
All I do is puns. All day. Never stopping.
You should try to mix some fluorescent powder with the glue for glowing spittle!
Or even blood, as if it just ate something :)
Someone else may have mentioned this, but the Citadel technical paint Blood for the Blood God is incredible stuff for blood effects.
Those are so awesome looking dice!
REALLY pleased with the final results :)
Painting the spittle before encasing it so the spit is a different shade from the clear resin would allow it to show through
you could try adding a little bit of white pigment to the glue so that it's not completely clear, and maybe wont disappear into the resin
These are the coolest dice I've ever seen
Thank you! I'm really proud of these :)
@@Rybonator hands down man. You are the reason I picked up dice making, and your constant improvement gives me faith in my craft, thank you :)
These are CRAZY. They look so good!
Glad you like them bunny :) Thank you!
Have you thought about losing in a little mica powder or using a thin layer of silver mica powder brush in the drool? To keep the look in the resin double cast.
