I think it’s important to remember that back then, in the early years of solid body guitar and amplification to go with those guitars there wasn’t an established culture of separate guitar and amplifier brands to mix and match and the manufacturers would actually be making amps to partner with their own guitar models. When you think about it this way it’s entirely logical that the Gibson amp was brighter (to go with the naturally darker sounding guitars then made) and with more headroom (to suit the hotter pickups, eg. P90s, that Gibson tended to use compared to Fender).
The Falcon is night and day my winner here. The champ sounds like it has a pillow in front of it comparably. I found similar results in my modeler testing as well. Love the videos, keep up the good work!
I was so so so disappointed with the more modern built 57 champs from the custom shop. I found it lacking the great tone of champs I’d recorded with in studios my whole life, and quickly sold it. However, the vibro champs…. Different story. Beautiful things. The lesson here, an amp’s eq section can make every bit of difference.
There's another Gibson amp you should check out, if you can get your hands on one: Gibson GA-5 Goldtone Les Paul Jr. Amp Reissue, manufactured for a short period in the 2000s. American made, hand-wired, a true tone monster. And cheap.
Clean I can appreciate the darkness of the Champ although i prefer the brighter sound of the falcon. However the champ fell on its face for me in the cranked test and especially the tube screamer test. One thought i had though. Gibson guitars tend to have a dark sound and fenders a brighter sound so maybe a Gibson on the Gibson would actually be slightly closer to the sound of a strat on the Champ....
I had a Gibson amp in 1962 It was very good. My bass player would bring me a variety of different guitars that I played through it (I think it was called a penetrator.). I broke a lot of strings playing a Gibson SE one night. So he sold me a Guild Star-fire that I loved when I traded my amp for a Fender Twin Reverb. Now I have 16 guitars and 4 amps that I use for different purposes. I enjoy your UA-cam show.
Really nice video, the sound samples were great. I'm playing through a Helix right now, but it sort of makes me want to drop a couple of months of grocery money on an Ox and some kind of small head.
The new “Gibson” Mesa amps cost a fortune and are no better made than a fender blues junior.Watch a video on UA-cam by Brads guitar garage it will open your eyes.
I appreciate your perspective and efforts to compare these, but they are both 'bedroom' amps. Not gigable, unless you don't need stage volume, and only gig where they have a budget for sound reinforcement gear. And E-drums only.
That was a nice shootout between the two amps. I wonder how much the speaker size (8" vs 10"), cabinet dimensions, and wattage affect the differences between them. Does an extra two watts provide that much more headroom? The amps are about the same price. I'd have a tough time deciding which one to get.
If this was a blind A-B comparison, I bet people would have thought the Fender amp would have been the brighter clearer one. Turns out we should probably use our ears before we use our eyes. 😂

Dude, get yourself a Tweed Deluxe or clone thereof. It'll blow your mind.
It's ALL the speaker. Use the SAME speaker and then test them.. The big difference you are hearing is the 'SPEAKER'.
And cab. Speaker + cab
@@AgressiveElevatorMusic and room. Speaker, cab and room.
The Gibson sounds much more lively to me, the fender sounds like it’s been submerged underwater
With the tube screamer on the champ it just sounds like a vintage radio honestly because it just cant handle those lows as well as the falcon

It's still a highly mediocre amp at an absurd price for what you're getting. If you want that tone, get a Swart, not this.
Class A amps are amazing ❤
@@hutchfrombaYes, and eat tubes like candy! 😄
I play harmonica and the Champ is the best amp for harp and it’s not even close.

Carvin vintage 16
I have a Carvin Vintage 16 head shaking a 12 in Cannabis Rex. I love the sound and the "soak" knob adds a huge range of voicing to anything I plug in.
Very much overlooked and Carvin made some excellent amps.
The Gibson sounds great - clear, rich and full. The Fender doesn’t just sound dark, it sounds muffled - almost like it’s playing in a different room.
Wow, that 57 champ sounds unusually dark. Would not expect that, especially with that little 8” speaker.
I have to say, I dug the Gibson with the TS, but the clean tones sounded really nice with the Fender.
Hands down winner: the Falcon! 💪
The single Royer is a wild choice for this.

I like the Gibson more, but not the Gibson price.

This is your best vid yet!!!! EPIC, Thanks
Merci ! You are great
Have you tried pluging Falcon to Champ's speaker and vice versa? It might be that most of the difference in the speaker used.
I love your videos keep it up!
I still have a Valve Jr. It doesn't work right now, but I have the turret board partially populated to get it working again.
Really nice video, the sound samples were great. I'm playing through a Helix right now, but it sort of makes me want to drop a couple of months of grocery money on an Ox and some kind of small head.
Gibson much clearer ....much more to the sound.....love that falcon

The Fender sounds like someone threw a blanket over it. A Muffled mess.
I love your whole personality fr, your very knowledgeable. Looking forward to watching more of ya🤙
Ya, the Falcon sounds great. I think the Champ has its place, but it just doesn't quite stand up.
Gibson makes that fender sound like trashola
Alright great video. Then we put them in the mix and a hole different thing

What did you think about the always-on fan on the Gibson?
8 inches.., 10 inches; It ain't about the size bud.
damn overprice amplifier

What are all of your guitars and gear
What do you think about the Fender Acoustic 100?
Was this a re-upload or am I going insane?
I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that! Thank you!
Yes round too
Do a video on Flat Wound Guitar strings. They change the whole playing style.
If this was a blind A-B comparison, I bet people would have thought the Fender amp would have been the brighter clearer one.
Turns out we should probably use our ears before we use our eyes.
😂
you should check out the vox valve reactor
gibson for me , the fender sounds so dull in comparison, like a wooly sounding paf on a les paul.
Love ur videos man and ur openess to learning. Uve inspired me throughout my guitar playing journey and I truly thank u for that 😤😤😤
Is this a repost?
Waaaaaay too expensive…
I would rather get a vibrochamp or magnatone
You have to check out aio guitars are all in one guitars
