படிக்கிறவர்கள் ஆங்கில நாவல்களை விரும்புகிறார்கள் என்ற கருத்தை நான் ஏற்க மாட்டேன். எனக்கு தெரிந்த வரையில் ஆங்கில இலக்கியம் படிப்பவர்கள் கடைசியில் தமிழிடம் தான் வந்து சரணடைகிறார்கள். தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் இருக்கும் செழுமை வேறு எந்த மொழியிலும் கிடைப்பதில்லை என்பது நான் அனுபவித்த கண்கூடான உண்மை. உதாரணத்துக்கு இந்திரா சௌந்தரராஜனின் நாவல்களை தான் ப்ரவுன் மிஞ்சி விடமுடியாது. கணக்கிட முடியாத அளவுக்கு பரிசோதனை எழுத்துக்களும் தமிழில் உள்ளன. தாங்கள் உலக எழுத்தாளர்களால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு எழுத ஆரம்பித்ததாக எழுத்தாளர்கள் கூறினால் கூட அந்த எழுத்துக்கள் ஒப்பிடமுடியாத அளவுக்கு தனித்தன்மையுடன் இருக்கின்றன என்பதே உண்மை.
