  • Trying out some of my 150 grain Hornady Interlock loadings in my Remington 700 .308 rifle. Steel and paper out to 300 yards. I plan to keep my hunting within 225 yards. Scope is a US Optics ST-10 (10x fixed).

    I have found that this bullet , 3031, is not very uniform. Distance from the ojive to the tip varies considerably making it difficult to get consistent COAL. Anyone else notice this ?

      Yeah, I have found that to be the same conclusion I have come across after measuring several dozen bullets just to be sure. I figured it to be of that characteristic for particular hunting practices. There is the Barnes TSX and Sierra Game King and there is the Soft-Point-Will-Do Circle.

    Started developing the 150gn interlocks in my 308 gas gun today. I couldn’t believe the accuracy and SD values I was getting from this spire projectile. Had to search UA-cam to see if others were having the same results. We even have the exact same velocity node we’re working on. I’ve got 42.8gn of IMR4064 at 2550 .411” group and a staggering SD of 0.6. Haven’t taken it past 100 though. Thanks for the data.

    That bullet is one of the best really. For hunting it works great as a deer bullet in up to .30-06 class cartridges. Personally I think 165s are a better choice in .30-06.

      @andyprairiedog  Рік тому

      I agree with you on 165 grain in 30-06. My dad made some rounds with this 165 grain for his 30-06 and it did well in New Mexico for a hunt he got drawn for recently.

      @@andyprairiedog There are certain bullets that hit a balance point for weight and velocity in certain cartridges and calibers. .30-06 really does work well with various 165s over a wide range of hunting situations. . And with so many 165 grain .308 diameter bullets available, you have a lot of excellent options.

    Oh. One more thing. Just a thought. One day I was shooting my 25-06 at 300. Laying down just as you are. And I was having the same issue. One group would be left of point of aim. Walk back fire five more. That group was right of point of aim. Very similar to your target. My problem was I was canting my gun one way then the other. When I figured out what I was doing (shooting off a pack). I felt like a dummy. Because the wind was clearly going one constant direction as it was snowing. I was so proud of my 3/4 to 1/2 min reloads and rifle. But had zero explanation for the 10" drift of my groups right and left. I'm not sure that was what was going on with you. But mabie something to think about

    • @sancharino4672
      @sancharino4672 3 роки тому +1

      For clarity. My groups where nowhere near 1/2 min. Off a bench with bags. That rifle and load will consistently group like that at 100 yards. Laying on the ground freezing my arse off. Shooting of of a back pack. My groups where more like 5-6" at 300. So you don't assume I am a taticle keyboard warrior. Just trying to help

      You hit the nail right on the head. I learned my US Optics' internal bubble level is canted offset by a little. Enough to do exactly what you said. I bought an SME level from amazon, leveled it with my scope leveling bubbles on the flat elevation knob, on a flat area of the rifle...leveled all 3 and checked the internal level...was off enough to bug me. Kept the SME level on the tube and been shooting with ever since. Sucks I paid an extra $50 (2011) for that internal level.

      I think the 140-150 grains would be good choices for deer. I'm not an experienced hog hunter so I would not know much about bullet selection for hog. Check out "The Hooligan Outdoors" channel...he hunts both deer and hog and also reloads for those hunts. He is currently hunting hog right now at night. Federal's Terminal Assent...I have not tried those bullets yet but have heard good things about them. I'm planning to keep these Interlocks for more loadings and different powders. Great video. It will be much easier for you if you would zero your rifle for Max point blank range. A 150 at 2900 fps. Which is easily attainable. Should be dead on somewhere around 200 yards. Give or take. For hunting if you don't intend on shooting past say 300 yards. It is a much better way of setting up your rifle. And easier to make good shots on game. Just a little constructive criticism. I enjoyed. Thanks

    Also. If you want to take as much human out of the equation as possible. Ditch the stick powders. Get ahold of some power pro2000mr or CFE223. You will more than likely see similar accuracy. And significantly higher velocity's. Not that there's anything wrong with what your doing. Buy for hunting. I am an advocate of "the easier to hit, the better for the animal and hunter". Just some insight. I have changed my tune in the last year or so after seeing what those two powders would do. Forget the temp sensitive issues. At the ranges you are planning on hunting. A spread of 30 or 40 fps is going to matter naught. But the 300 (about)
    yard point blank range will help you significantly.

      @@andyprairiedog I have a lot of confidence in those Interlocks as hunting bullets. But as the cartridge capacity goes up, the weight needs to as well.
