There's something special about vehicles this old. Not only do they have fewer complex add-ons to boost fuel economy at the sacrifice of longevity, they also have been driven by people who put some effort into maintenance.

Finding a non beat up/abused H22 with 5 speed manual transmission is a good find specially one that turns on. Good collectors find! Congrats

My first new car was a 1986 Honda Prelude Si White with Automatic transmission, I put 250K miles on it , it was a great car! I sold it for 2k and bought an Acura CL 2.0 in 1997:)

My first car was a 4th gen Prelude. 1994 Prelude VTEC h22a1 "Gold Edition" Whatever that means... It had a 5 speed manual, gold badges on it, and a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. (Which CDs were still some what relevant in 2009) 128,000 miles on it, my dad and i paid $3,400 for it. I drove it all the way up to 211,000 miles with no issues other than having to replace the clutch. No issues until the harmonic balancer pulley bolt came loose on me. I parked it at a friends house for a few days not knowing what was wrong with it, Then my Dad decided to try and drive it home (instead of towing it)... Naturally the bolt and keyway that hold the timing gear on the crankshaft worked themselves completely out and the engine went out of time.😒 that was the end of my Prelude days, but I still have that H22a1 engine. It is now built and in a EK Civic hatch so it all kind of worked out I guess

As a prelude sh owner myself, you forgot to include that these cars have problems with electrical systems. I'm currently having that issue. Idling problems as usual with every honda and that h22a4 burns oil like a mofo. My euro R h22a also burns oil so it doesn't matter what h22 you have in there. Welcome to the club, but also enjoy the prelude curse. Thankfully you're a mechanic

My favorite car I purchased was a 1997 Honda Prelude 4th generation (the rounded look)... I wished I could found another one in the 5 speed.. ❤️ Damn kids (twins) came along and bye bye sports car 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

I remember being in love with the 93'-95' model. I loved the wider nose and the interior was tastefully done. It's hard to find that model still in good condition. The prelude was a gem

Having owned one before, I am looking forward to this one minus I had to get rid of mine since I needed to daily it and it had way too much structural rust to drive in winter

  • @bobbydelamar606

Here are some of the 5th gens. main issues. H22A engines burn A LOT of oil. If you know Preludes, you should know that's a very common issue. Also the main relays give issues with bad solder joints, EGR ports will get clogged causing a random cylinder misfire code, auto timing belt tensioners give out way before the belt AND the distributor has a sensor in it that causes no starts.

These generations of vehicles from Honda would have been awesome with a six speed manual. Owned a 91 Integra GS that felt forced after hitting fifth gear.

    • @averyalexander2303

Honda always had short 5th and 6th gears IMO. Even the 05 Civic with the VTEC engine is geared to run at nearly 4K RPM at 80, which annoyed me so much that I put the non VTEC trans in it. Now I can go 80 at 3200 RPM. A lot of Honda's 6 speeds have short 6th gears too. The S2000, RSX-S, TSX, and 06-15 Civic SI all rev way too high for my liking despite having a 6 speed.

@@averyalexander2303 You are correct. I put a Del Sol transmission that someone converted to a cable shifter in my 91 Integra GS and it turned it into a gas hog. 80mph was a little over 4k rpm.

This makes me miss all my old cars, I’m on car #13 right now from 18 years of driving; all cars were totaled by me or from people without insurance or stolen … I’ve had such crappy luck; I should have a 7 car stable, at least. Pisses me off; the luck I have. Wish I could just get a break.

wow very nice find. car guys born 2000 and on might never know the cool rush of a true 90s vtec engine. i play the lottery every weekend hoping to one day have the 60 or so K to drop on a good condition 90s NSX. lay people might look once and assume it's another old jdm car but the real ones will know after i go roaring by.

I picked a 05 Accord coupe V6 6speed manual for 2800$ after auction fees 118k miles. The only problems Ac needs work and 3rd gear syncro grind a bit.

Don't put anti-seize on spark plugs. It's easy to over torque the plugs and will strip the soft aluminum head.

To me Hondas are just oil burners ... good to about 200000ks, then best of luck ...

    • @elliswilliams1050
      @elliswilliams1050 2 роки тому

Welp, Honda is still the second best in the world in reliability. Piston rings aren't designed to last forever, all engines eventually become oil burners if they're not rebuilt after a few hundred thousand miles.
