  • In this video I'll show you how you can test your engines cooling system after repairing a leak or replacing a faulty component like a water pump, radiator or coolant hoses. You need to do this test everytime you open the system for repairs to make sure your repair was successful and also there are no other problems in the system before you add coolant into the system.

After fixing the first leak, not only is it good to check for other leaks that might be present already , but fixing the first leak will cause the system to achieve a higher pressure, which can cause some other weak spot to leak anew.

It’s always so much fun to just f around and waste 100$ in coolant because you are a dodo brain and you didn’t do what you said. Check every single freaking clamp as well

Please continue on with this car. Very interesting to see. I pressurized my 1994 Grand Am 3.1V6 and it looked good. So I replaced the expansion tank cap (there is no radiator cap on this car) and all seemed good for a few months. Now I've noticed something has leaked on the front side of the engine. I had replaced the water pump last year. I guess I'm going to have to investigate further. Thanks for another informative video. Cheers

That’s wonderful congratulations. What a miserable place to get into. People complain when they have what seems like a simple job expand into something way more expensive and this is a great example of why that is always the case. The engineers that build these things should have to work on them, then they all be set up like the Nissan 1600 was. Back when it was Datsun. A real joy to work on if there is such a thing. Great video

This is one of the specialty tools I use the most, since cooling system problems are surprisingly common in engines. The only thing is, you never seem to have the right adapter. For example my Astro kit didn't have the right adapter for old model Chev trucks, so eventually I got another kit with more adapters. The backbone of the Astro kit is better quality but the chinese knockoff gives more diversity of cap options.

A pressure tester works wonders. On my pt cruiser and it was full of water yeah and i was messing with a lower hose i forgot why and i didn't put the clamp on good because i was irritated with it and wanted to be done right lol. Not even like 4 psi blew the hose right off along with muh coolant (didn't have distilled water at the time) so i never started the car to test it that way at all and could have saved my engine and a stranded tow possibly back home to see my shame of not putting the hose on right or with the clamp on tight. Pressure test your systems no only good for finding leaks also good that you didn't mess up on a installation like i did.

CAUTION TO ANYONE REPLACING GEAR DRIVEN WATER PUMP! It is very important to make sure your vehicle engine is or is not a non-tolerable or tolerable engine. You may have to use a tool to hold your timing gears in place. First set at top dead center and set timing gear holder in place. IF ONE WAS TO REMOVE THE TIMING BELT ON A ZERO TOLERANCE ENGINE. THE ENGINE VALVES WILL STRIKE THE PISTONS THEREFORE CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO BENDING OF VALVES AND DAMAGE TO PISTONS. "PLEASE DO YOUR NEW DEALINGS AND LOOK INTO HOW TO REPLACING YOUR WATER PUMP" IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE PLEASE TAKE VEHICLE TO A QUALIFIED REPAIR SHOP! REMEMBER REPLACING A WATER PUMP THAT IS DRIVEN BY TIMING BELT CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL.

Waste of money. I use a brake bleed kit.
Deflate nearestbtyre to around 17psi. Attach the hose to the tyre other end screw onto expansion bottle as a lid and it does exactly the same thing at a fraction of the cost. I think mine was £8 from Halfords many years ago. 🎉
