  • Rudiments can be a real challenge to wrap your head around in the early days of drumming, especially if we don't really understand what they're for!
What's exactly is the point of endlessly tapping different patterns on a practice pad when ultimately they all sound the same?
Well your endeavours are not fruitless! In this lesson, Nick takes us through how we can actually apply rudiments to the kit to make some exciting sounding patterns and fills.

I'm 56 and started drumming a few months ago. I've found loads of really useful and interesting stuff on your channel. This was really helpful and I'm looking forward to trying my paradiddles on the kit (very slowly).
My kick drum sounds so much better after watching your tuning video.
    Love the channel, thanks.

Just wanted to say thanks for making this clip. As a self taught drummer, I definitely learned a lot from a rudimentary point of view and how they can be applied correctly and successfully, can't wait to try out some of the strategies you stated 💯

Super lesson‼️thank you. Doubles on the snare - you just unlocked a stumbling block right there ✌️🌻

Protip: treat your hihat as a practice pad in a groove 😎

WHY?! do you say that double hits are left to the snare drum alone? o.O

Great question: The snare naturally has a lot of rebound and definition. You can of course play doubles on the toms, but it's harder due to reduced rebound and the notes are easily lost.
As always though, no hard and fast rules though, just rough guidelines 🙂
