Do you have a comparison to Fi 3 in terms of specs, features, pricing, design, etc.? I owned Fi 2 and now a Fi 3. Fi doesn’t let you draw a fence like some competitors, but their circular fences can be made as small as 60 feet, and it’s SPOT ON. I get notified the moment my boy gets back into the boundary around my house and vice versa. They also can track within ten feet thanks to LTE-M and GPS. I’ve had a great experience with Fi’s ability to track accurately to within that ten feet.
It’s also great that they now have a support phone number to speak with a person. Problem is that their software and hardware are lacking in many areas. Above all, I want to know I can track accurately if my boy would get lost or stolen He’s an ADA task trained service dog. SD’s are targets between their value and the person being disabled and not being able to chase someone - thieves and animal “activists” are known to pickup up the dogs and run or slash a leash and spook them so they bolt. I wish Fi 3 would have more health sensors, better audio and light indicators, two way audio communication, an onboard video feed to record a walk if I had to hire a walker or see video of potential thieves my boy is if he got stolen, support for Apple Watch to see the walk and metrics instead of just being fence notifications, etc. But right now, I don’t think any collar is more accurate with their tracking because no other brand uses both GPS and LTE-M.
I don’t understand why Halo is notoriously larger and larger when the tech and batteries available gets better and smaller. What exactly makes it so massive? It’s probably the largest collar I’ve seen on the market.
The best collar I’ve ever owned was the Waggit from two women who launched on IGG and then they sadly lost the business to Covid. They had major investors when they launched, but sadly, so many much larger companies lost a ton during Covid, so small startups went belly up regardless of how incredible their product was. CTracking was decent enough, and the medical sensors were medical grade and providing useful metrics (and would have only gotten better with time). I’ve owned many of these smart collars dating back to the first consumer GPS cellular collar launched in 2015 called Nuzzle that was well designed and promised no cell fees for life, but I knew that company would go belly up if they didn’t ask customers to pay for service - and it took just a 3-4 years before that happened. The Nuzzle tracked nicely for 2015 tech, but the battery life was about two days at best instead of the weeks they advertised. At least batteries could be swapped easily and it was still waterproof. But yeah, I’ve tried lots of these collars, and once I found the best one ever, Waggit went under - I wish a company would hire those two women for their design team because they really made some novel advances in this space from 2018-2020 that most big brands still haven’t achieved in 2023.
Anyway, let me know if you’re going to any a comprehensive comparison with Fi 3 vs Halo 3. I genuinely was interested in Halo but I really never tried one. I knew they had been working on a new model and had reached out to offer my 26 years of voluntary hardware/software beta testing experience during Covid, but despite saying that they’d add me to a list and reach out, nobody ever did. I would have loved to help them out. I’m glad it’s finally on the market, but I was hoping it would be much smaller than the prior design. It looks even larger. Yikes.

I’d like to add one other thing to compare now that I watched your general review of Halo 3. The price difference and warranty/replacement policies between Fi 3 and Halo is drastic. I am trying to understand the differences in cost.
You get SO much less for SO much more from Halo 3. For instance, it will cost big bucks to replace a broken Halo 3 whereas Fi 3 can be replaced at zero cost beyond the standard warranty period (they may ask for shipping costs in some cases. Everyone gets an extended warranty so long as the person is actively paying for the GPS service - which costs less with Fi whether you pay monthly or to month or annually. It could cost HUNDREDS to replace the Halo 3 depending on which service plan a person is paying for. Even the top tier service plan doesn’t qualify for free replacements.
Read the terms of the warranty and compare the service and features. Just ouch. Not sure it’s worth getting a Halo 3 when it seems to have less than 20 hours of battery life where you can get up to 3 months with Fi 3 depending on usage and your location. I get around 3-4 weeks here in NYC before I have to charge, and I’d likely get more, but I don’t let the battery go below 30%. The tracking accuracy gets to about ten feet and the fence lets you make a 60 foot or larger area that’s very accurate, and the overall location tracking seem to be the same or better on Fi 3 thanks to their use of LTE-M and GPS. It’s great to have worldwide coverage for free from Halo 3, but most of us don’t travel frequently. I could see where people like me with service dogs might enjoy that feature, but it might be cheaper to temporarily rent or even buy an inexpensive GPS collar that works for the region where you’re going if that’s the case - or better yet, get one that’s designed for hunting and has a range of 10-20 miles and requires no service plan. You can get some options that work well worldwide (make sure it has the right radio frequencies for the region where you’re traveling!) for a few hundred dollars new at the most - and you can find used ones for $50-$100 on eBay. While they are a bit cumbersome and often have antennas sticking out, that’s a good solution for travel situations.
Yeah, this is very important stuff. Maybe you should also make a video talking about warranties and plan costs comparing several brands of collars.

@thepamperedup I apologize if I missed it, but I'm trying to figure out if this would work well to line up with an existing fence. I would like it to go off as the dogs get too close to the fence itself. We have deer fencing that was working well until they started jumping over it, so we raised it to six feet and now they have chewed through to get out... I am looking for something that will line up accurately with the fence line.

Good question. It’s probably not the best solution unless you have a fairly large fenced-in area (like closer to 0.5 acre or more) due to GPS drift. An in-ground system would hold the fence line more reliably, but they don’t offer much in terms of warning features.

@@ThePamperedPup thank you for this... we do have at least .5 an acre fenced off, so maybe we could make it work. But I would hate to have it land outside the fence...

@@shellatorghow did it go with setting up inside existing fence? I am trying to do this right now….. so far with GREAT difficulty! I have a large yard but its not working so well yet. Thought it was just me but so far the gps drift they dont like to talk about is pretty significant. Any words of experience to share?

You said you set things up as far as the warnings to make sounds and things. But never said how you did that.

By default they are set to beep, vibrate, and static correction. You can edit those in the collar settings.
