I think Amen is a point forward. He should take Dillon Brook's spot on the starting lineup eventually. VanVleet, Green, Amen, Jabari, Sengun with Reed eventually taking VanVleet's spot on the starting five eventually. With solid players still on the bench, the Rockets should be able to be fairly scary in the near future.
Man, I wanted him next to Shaedon Sharpe so damn bad......he's like Ben Simmons meet Giannis, closer to Simmons offensively but that athleticism and defense is top tier
He does almost every possession get contact and moves very fast hopefully he slows his pace this can lead to injuries he is a extremely high level player and if he slows his game slightly I think he’ll be a top player one day
Amen is going shoot well. 33% from 3 this year. 35% in the future. That's a lot for a guy currently at 11% from 3. I don't think his shooting form is as bad as all that. AND I really believe in the Rocket's shooting coaches and player development in general.
The fact that he can block a shot and is always still looking for the ball to either get the steal or if it's going out of bounds to tip it off the opponent to complete the turnover. Such smart play from a rookie!
Dude has a great motor. I feel like he's very one dimensional right now and playing at one speed only, but if he matures his game he's got potential to be a star. I see shades of Giannis? I guess because he's always going downhill. But maybe he can be a Shawn Marion type too?
him and his brother are both in the top 1 % of athletes in the NBA! they already both are ELITE defenders! if they develop offensively or get put on an elite offensive team where they can be themselves in a winning situation it's going to get spooky for just about every guard they matchup against!
It’s trendy for a lot of younger NBA UA-camrs and enthusiasts to overhype the Rockets’ core. I’m a lifelong Rockets fan, and if you truly watched any of the games, it was abundantly clear how abysmally unrefined Amen’s game is. He was touted and drafted to be the Point Guard of the future for the Rockets and in his first game against the Magic, he could only bring the ball up the court a handful of times without turning it over or looking timid with on ball pressure from smaller, quicker defenders. That’s the main reason why he won’t rack up gaudy assist numbers because he cannot be a primary ball handler for a team that wants to contend. Udoka relegated him to coming off the bench and hanging out in the dunkers spot, where he was the most effective. So when you factor in those deficiencies along with his atrocious jump shooting, it’s quite a stretch to say he’ll be a star. Defensively, this analysis was spot on. We are seeing another Ben Simmons type of prospect, but at least he is aggressive around the rim.
His ball handling and ball security will improve. Keep in mind it was Orlando not Detroit. They are one of the best ball pressure teams in the entire NBA. But he really doesn't need to be a traditional PG anyway because of Sengun and Reed. He likely will be used more like Zion than a PG.
@@michaelahurt Amen Thompson will be utilized like Zion? Have you watched a Pelicans game? Zion can go downhill against anyone in a half court set and create offense on his own. That will absolutely NEVER happen with Thompson, he cannot handle the ball, he’s not a power forward or a point guard. It’s ok to have a little objectivity when evaluating a player’s potential growth.
@@DavidChinh Amen can also go downhill against anyone in a half court set. The only guy in the NBA who can stay in front of him is Ausar. Again Amen will tighten his handle as he ages. He's not going to be bottom 3% in ball handling turnovers again _next season_ let alone for the next 15 years. You're acting like he literally can't dribble at all. Like he's Boban. Anyway Zion is a low touch, low dribble and low time of possession guy relative to other 20+ PPG scorers. He works primarily off quick attacks, straight line drives and setting himself up off ball vs holding the ball and dribbling the air out of it.
@@michaelahurt You really just said Amen can attack the Rim like Zion. The glazing is nuts. We’ll definitely revisit this when the seasons underway. Looking forward to more of your delusions.

@SGAKillinEm1 fair comp at the moment, but his jumper already looks better than westbricks ever has. Not saying much, but I'm betting the shot approach is going to improve significantly for amen as he matures and takes some advice from his shooting coaches.
@@grodergroder Huh? Amen shot 21% outside 10 feet and 68% at the line. Russ was 34% and 80% in his age 20 and 21 seasons. (And Amen took twice as many catch and shoot jumpers.) At this rate if Amen peaks at low 40s from mid-range and low 30s from three like Russ that would be a miracle. The biggest concern with quick twitch athletes is they just don't have the fine motor skills to ever be great shooters regardless of how much they work at it. But Amen is bigger, gets to the rim easier, is a better finisher and has better vision than Westbrook. He will likely be a cross between Russ and Ben Simmons with Zion's usage profile.
Yeah their big three might ultimately be Amen, Whitmore and Smith. Those three with a polished Sheperd. You could trade Green VanFlett an all a them for a Center.
Sengun may have a troubling future. But he does have a future. His skill with the ball could be Jokic like but otherwise he is not dominant enough to be any teams focal point.
During pre season hes shown that he def has wired on his shot during the offseason, i believe he’ll have a reliable shot either near the end of season or beginning of next season
The biggest trouble for Houston this season will be sharing minutes. Amen, Cam, Reed, Tari, too much talent on the bench and they need minutes to develop.
I don’t think their development will suffer. Also coming off the bench necessarily doesn’t mean they won’t get minutes. Like brooks, Jalen, and Jabari can start but if they aren’t helping the team udoka will let those guys on the bench finish out the game. And there was times where Dillon started but someone off the bench ended with more minutes. Dillon starts cause of the contract we gave him mainly
Rockets have too much young talent. I wonder how many of them we will be able to keep. AS, Reed, Amen, not sure who else. I'm picking these 3 for sure.
Kind of. Amen is a better functional athlete on offense. He's noticeably more explosive with the ball in his hands. You could argue that's because he's further ahead in terms of ball handling and and is more aggressive attacking the rim but the end result is the end result. But it is weird to talk abut Amen's defense and not mention Ausar, since, as you said, he's just as athletic, is a better rebounder, better shot blocker, better instincts and overall better defender.
I disagree. I think as a wing you have to be able to shoot to be considered a “star”. I don’t care how good u are at anything else. Spacing/ being a jump shooting threat on ball would open up his game to where I could see him becoming a star, but without, I see a high high level role player. But with this rockets team, players like Jalen green and sengun are also not good enough shooters for Thompson to be afforded his shooting percentage. I do think Thompson has the highest ceiling on Houston, and I think Houston needs to dump one or both of green and sengun and start thinking about building a championship roster and not just a good one.
