- Remember when MTV used to dabble in animation? From my VHS recordings, this was a commercial break that aired during a marathon of "The Maxx" (aka "MTV's Oddities") that aired in Mid-December, 1995.
Included here:
1. "The Maxx"/"MTV's Oddities" bumper
2. The Maxx "brought to you by" bumper (in this case, it's 'brought to you by' Super Nintendo and "Designer Imposters" hairspray)
3. "Killer Instinct" commercial (for the Super Nintendo) - remember this knock-off of Mortal Kombat?!?
4. "U" cologne spray (by Designer Imposters)
5. "A Little Sexy" perfume spray (by Designer Imposters). "Why don't we just stay in?"
6. NBA merchandise commercial
7. "Blockbuster Music" commercial (Santa goes rogue! Featuring "Silverchair" and "Hootie and the Blowfish")
8. "Tom and Huck" commercial (Disney movie)
9. Beavis and Butthead merchandise: "Virtual Stupidity" (a CD-Rom game!) and "This Sucks! Change It!" (an activity book and remote control).
Commentary (if you care to read it):
Welcome to the middle of the 90's! "Batman the Animated Series" was seemingly over by this point, and Toonami had yet to premiere on Cartoon Network. If you wanted anime, you bought it on VHS tapes or caught the occasional special broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel. (I didn't know about "Gargoyles" on ABC yet, but I would discover that show in 1996).
So at this point, where did we go for love of action/adult animation? You went to MTV. "The Maxx", "Aeon Flux", "Liquid Television", and yes, "Beavis and Butthead" - these shows consumed my attention for a portion of 1995/1996. This was the time period inbetween "The 'Old' Saturday morning cartoons" and "The Rise of Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon/Kids WB".
I was about to graduate high school lol! Oh man, nice trip down memory lane!

I've never seen that Killer Instinct commercial before.
Wow I was like 7 around this time sneaking my way down stairs to watch this while everyone was asleep. Beavis and butt head too 😅😂😂😂
