Hi, This video was extremely helpful to me. It enhanced my ability to throw a pitcher with an awareness of moving the clay and lenghtening the height at a pace which is faster than I had been using. I was able to get a much better piece. Many thanks Meg
All of your work is beautiful. I've used some of your ideas from your videos, and shared them with all of my classmates. They love them!! You are one hell of a artist, my friend. I hope you continue your success for the many years to come! Cheers
If you can centre it then that's the hardest part to master as a beginner. If you're pot is collapsing then you might be trying to make it too thin. Don't try big pots to start off with, just try small simple ones to start with to get some confidence and once you get the hang of it go a bit bigger. Don't get disheartened,It's not something you can learn overnight,so really it's just practice and eventually you WILL master it. Cheers,Dan.
Dan, thank you for sharing so much of your work. I'm especially a fan as I am also a fan of colored slips while on the wheel, and see the identical process in attaching handles to my work. Seems I never feel like I'll have time later, so mine go on when the pot is too wet, and the handle too limp, and yet we pull it off. I dig seeing this in this video! Thanks again.
Bravo! A huge pot in under 10 minutes I wouldnt even have that much clay centered by then. I liked how you did your handle, I was taught to let is get leather hard in the curved shape but applying it when you did made it look easier.
Great way to pull a handle, I have never thought of using a table to hold the handle while I pulled it. Much easier I think. Perhaps tonight I will give it a go.
Thank you! Wonderful vessel. One wish.............I would love to see the tools you use as you move thru the process. You are using them at 6 o'clock and the viewer is at 12:00 o'clock. You handle the tools so quickly and efficiently, Thanks again for sharing. I particularly needed to see the application of your handle and found that very helpful. Diane
I have several questions about your style. One--what type and generally how much do you throw at once? Two-- how do you get the batt to stick to the wheel with out the pins? Three-- do you trim the bottom of your pots or just undercut and fire? Four-- how do you get the clay so soft before you work on it? Five-- How often and how much time do you generally give to a single project? Thank you so much for your time and for making the videos. I watch them to try and get better in my ceramics.3rd yr
vishmaster.... what do you contribute to the world? Little but negativity I reckon, Dan has skill, talent and an ability to create. He is a Craftsman and an artist. He teaches and makes people happy with his clips, and his pots. can you say the same?
Like father, like son! I asked Dan's dad the same thing a while back! When the handle and jug have the same moisture, apparently scoring not critical! I'm scared to try it. Have never lost a handle. :-)
Dan, that is really gorgeous, your work is beautiful. I really enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing them. I have had trouble w/spouts that don't pour great (drips). Any advice?
I love your work and I think that every piece you do is pheonomanal (sp?)... Do you have any tips for beginners?? I can get it centered, but when I try to open and raise the walls it falls off center and collapses... Thanks, Nick
Beautiful work and technique. How wet is your clay?. I am having a constant problem with clay consistency: either too hard or too soft. How do you determine this?
Beautiful jug....I especially love the handle placement. Thank you for all the videos you share with us. You are such an inspiration.

LOL I love reception work! And look, we'll always know when it's about to ring. Right in the middle of a project!
Great way to pull a handle, I have never thought of using a table to hold the handle while I pulled it. Much easier I think. Perhaps tonight I will give it a go.
I'd kill to have your talent. You make this look easy!
I make all my own tools.
They are all pretty simple, but if you use decent quality stainless steel they'll last for ever.
Cheers,Dan

@PsychicDavidJames I think it was 1 stick out of the pug mill so I guess about 6-7 lbs.
Cheers,Dan

Hi I enjoy all of your posts. I wanted to know how much clay did you use to make the jug?

how long do you let the handles dry out before you attach them? mine always seem to be too wet or too hard...thanks!
How many pounds of clay did you use for this piece???

How much clay are you throwing with?
@Hunter Strait start with some basic tutorials and such and you will figure it out and trust me it takes about 4-5 try's to get it decent
when you were slipping after you formed the spot i couldnt stop laughing and how come you always slip but never score?
@diana di the room temp doesn't really matter unless its freezing but yeah star
what kinda clay is that? its like butter?
@nbsiamese just take time to wedge, I used to have that problem too. I think I prefer soft clay because it is more responsive...preference however.
I'd like to know how much clay you started with
Boy do I love extruders!
@MegaAnnoyingMouse I know, maybe he's impatient and he uses so much water to thin out the rim faster so he can collar it.
emlmm88 Dan using a lot of water means he likes working with wet hands and clay. It all depends on the potter if they like working wet or dry.
Your so good
QUÉ INCREÍBLE

I can't center!!! :(
