Your review of this light Is the best one available, so thank you for that. I never thought about the magnetic base causing a short when your put it on something metal or it gets something in your pocket. I'm glad to hear that they put a safeguard in place for that.
Yes they fixed it over previous ones, thanks for the comment
After watching all the reviews your one is by far the best and most understandable, thank you .
I appreciate that! I try to show as much as I can in simple form
I have been using this flashlight for a week now and you are spot on with the issues of the clip and battery charging. These are easily liveable gripes for me and only realised the pocket clip size could be better after you make it clear in the video. I love this light and by far it is my best EDC light and for anybody else reading this the light is so much brighter than the video shows. This is the most all in one accurate video about this light. Great video
Peace!
I am working on a new camera purchase but it will take time. If anything it's easier to show the beam on still shots, on video the frame rate can drop and makes it very jerky which isn't nice. I think the clip is a weaker point to me, not a show stopper but a longer one would work better, same applies to the custom battery I'm not a fan of that and feel Olight should move away from it
Man i see what you mean about the battery as i purchased two extra that just arrived with an Olight UC battery charger to find out i can't charge them outside the flashlight. This is not good. Does anyone know if i can use the 3.7V 3500mah keeppower battery for this light as it has better reviews than Olight batteries? Standard battery is 3.6V, would it make a difference? If your reading this Baz which battery do you recommend for this light that i can recharge outside the body?
@@musmustafa7900 Makes no difference 3.6 of 3.7 both charge to 4.2V. The custom cell can't be charged with the UC from Olight, it can on some chargers make sure it's got flat contacts ie like Xtar. Keepower are good re-wrapped Panasonic cells
As always your videos are most informative. I like the fact that you evaluate the torches the same way making for good comparisons. Like you, I’m hesitant in purchasing a torch with proprietary charging system. Thank you for the work you do, it saves me a lot of money.
Believe it or not but the idea of the review site is you "don't waste" money by buying stuff that isn't going to do what you want. So with that in mind I wanted to provide some criticism as well as praise - so people can decide for themselves if it's suitable. I like to be honest about things, and I felt most channels marketed items rather than reviewed them. I don't think it helps the channel at all, because I'm fairly sure some makers will just not send items in, and I probably get a lot less off the affiliate links talking about weak points.
But wouldn't it be a massive waste of everyone's time if you only said "wow it's awesome", for the buyer and maker. If you don't know what's not so good then they can't make it better ;-) Appreciate the comment and support!
Another excellent review! The pocket clip on the flashlight appears to have a fixed position, it facilitates the orientation of the connector when it is dark. Otherwise, I think it's very good that you have a score assessment at the end of the review. It's a detail that elevates your tests one step above most others.
I don't mind you can't turn the clip around, but yes it's fixed v the other designs and I'm still on the fence with the double clip (it's not as strong as a single clip but maybe could be improved there). I think for many videos the summary works well and is useful (open to debate of course), but some products less to say so I don't always use it.
Great review - objective, balanced and the right amount of detail
Much appreciated!
Great review, keep it up. I love your reviews! M9R next! (I know, someone has to send it to you first)
On the X9R I couldn't even get a loaner unit for testing, let alone a free sample. I did ask Olight and BanTac and no go. Perhaps if I had a few more 00's on the sub count maybe. You're more chance of meeting the muppets in a supermarket than a video on the X9R turning up ;-) Not from lack of trying though.
Reality is most makers don't offer items for review including Lumintop, Acebeam, Fenix, Imalent, Armytek etc none have contacted me bar Lumintop who sent one torch ages ago (then heard nothing ever again from them), Acebeam asked where I got the torch for review (it was a supplier not the company) didn't seem interested in sending review samples.
There isn't a lot I can do about it, I get some samples from Bantac (Olight/Klarus/Rofis), some from Nitecore and Thrunite are sending a head torch maybe by next week. There won't be that many coming in unfortunately so I must be doing something wrong somewhere :-(
Got one today thanks to your review, thank you,i like it alot.
This was a great review. Thank you. I love mine.
If you want an ultra compact light, it is quite a nice option
You put a lot of work into your review videos. I notice the notes on screen along with the light ratings during beam shots. I wish every reviewer put that much info on the screen. Thanks
I think it's a time thing shooting editing etc, so might explain why most don't. I understand why some just "roll" the camera. That's not for me though I'd rather look at less and put more in, but I might try a few slightly shorter reviews just to see if I can cover it in say 7 minutes or so
@@MrBazReviews Well Sir your efforts are greatly appreciated.
@@TopDog8762 I appreciate the support, though I only get a few torches in I have a Thrunite coming in soon head torch, but looking around a bit I see big monster lights high end ones being sent to channels smaller than this, so I must be doing something wrong somewhere? It is a source of frustration to a point for me - because the time and work put in is quite a bit and over a long period of time. I took the decision a while back to not just do torches and broaden the appeal a bit (ie photo videos etc). There isn't a lot I can do about it many of the makers just don't contact me.
I will still be doing torch videos, but I have limited items coming in - hopefully folks can understand
@@MrBazReviews I can understand that. Although I do not do reviews I can't help but to think it might have something to do with an overall presence on social media. Facebook, Twitter etc. The companies might see that if a reviewer is reaching more people than just UA-cam they are bringing in more potential customers. Just a thought.
@@TopDog8762 Could be I did ponder a facebook page but I'm not sure it's something people want if it is then I'd do it. to some YT itself is social media ie presence but I know the no. of subscribers matters to some makers
Another reviewer said you could use other aftermarket batteries in this torch but they would NOT charge in the device. So this opens the door for a cheaper non proprietary battery and charger. Which is better than going back to Olight and paying an outrageous price for ONE battery. Thanks for the video.
Olight don't send items they don't like criticism
Great vid! I have a question, if i put this in my pocket, is there a chance the magnet at the bottom might wipe my credit cards?
Magnets are not good for cards so I'd not put them in the same pocket. No way to remove it easily on this (some torches you can take the magnet out)
Thank you man...today I get one for my EDC use.. love this olight
They are not bad
Excellent review. Thanks
Glad it was useful thanks for the comment
That's a well-fed cat
Yup she likes to eat ;-)
How is the heat management for this light? I'm curious if it can vent the heat safely so as not to damage the battery. Obviously moonlight and up to the 120 is going to be ok for long use, but is it safe to run the 400 lumen mode for say an hour straight?
On the Baton II the drop down is 400lm (from Turbo), so it's quite comfortable holding that power level for extended use even a hour or longer it only get's slightly warm at that power output.
@@MrBazReviews awesome, thanks for replying. This light will be the first lithium light I've ever bought. I own lights from maglite, streamlight, nitecore and even other olights, but they were all alkaline lights. They put out some lumens, but I never worried too much about them overheating. This light on the other hand, I was worried could overheat if used too long at high settings, cause we're all familiar with what can happen to lithium batteries when stressed. So thanks for replying, I feel more comfortable about using it. I just hope I didn't open the rabbit hole and have 20 more lithium lights by this time next year lol
Can the pocket clip be reversible so I can have it torch down?
It's a double clip but you can't reverse it just won't stay on
not sure if i missed you saying but how long do you get on each setting on a full battery?
It's shown on the packaging in the video and the user guide. Based on real world use of Olights - their run times are fairly accurate v what you actually get
Another great review I agree with the battery it's a step back compared to the M2R Worrior as they magneticly charge std 18650 batteries and the clip may as well be a single way clip. Thanks again for a great review.
I think the double clip isn't as useful on this v a smaller torch (needs to be longer IMO). I am a bit disappointed Olight have continued to use the custom battery despite the Warrior being able to use any 18650 to charge in torch. I'm not sure why they do that so I keep moaning about it until it eventually goes away ;-)
@@MrBazReviews Same here but it never does go away I would buy it if it could charge the standard 18650 I have the original S2 great light. keep up the good work thank you
Is the magnetic charger the same as the smaller olight s1r 2
Same one only the newer ones are different (faster charging)
@@MrBazReviews thanks I bought it in the copper style just now
