I honestly think this is one of the most well-rounded rides out there. Great layout, fun transitions, strong positives, whip, hangtime, and good pacing that keeps getting better the farther you get into the layout. I rode it a week after opening and it was blazing through its layout; the last turn before the ninth inversion was strong enough to induce graying-out. Throw in trains that easily compete with B&M hyper trains for comfort and you have an elite beast of a ride. At most parks this would be #1; only reason it’s not is because of Phantom

It's interesting how the North American inversion record was set in 1988 by Shockwave and would not get surpassed for over 30 years. I really liked the pacing on Steel Curtain, none of the elements felt repetitive to me. Between S&S and Vekoma, I am thrilled to see multi-loopers making a comeback.
As far as loading trains with employees for test cycles, when I worked at SFNE, we did just that on Bizarro on a cold day very early in the season the day after it valleyed on a morning test run.

I've been everywhere on the east coast, Steel Curtain and Phantoms Revenge are 2 of the smoothest coasters I've been on. They are great for people just getting into the bigger more intense rides. Riding Millennium Force 5 minutes after CP opens (an hour after you wake up) isn't the best idea, but it wakes you up lol. Also being form Pittsburgh might make me a bit bias lol

This was a good investment for Kennywood, they already have a Hyper in Phantoms but thus is so much more unique that they had to get it. And it gave the park more inversions which they needed. This ride is probably perfect for mixing positive Gs with airtime with inversions. Plus, ad in tons of near misses and very comfortable trains and you got a fantastic ride. I wish to see S&S make more of these.

I did ride this in 2019, and it’s in my top 20, and I did ride this in my Eagles jersey and chanted the Eagles fight song “Fly Eagles Fly” that they play at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philly, every time they score a touchdown, from the moment the train leaves the lift hill to the final brakes, and I’ve done that on quite a few amazing coasters, and also 41-33 😂.

I rode it a few weeks back and will be riding it again on Sunday. I think Phantom's is the better ride. Phantom's is in my Top 10 and this one is in my Top 50. I thought my afternoon ride on Steel Curtain was much better than the morning one which was on the first public train. It runs much slower in the morning even on hot days. I found Steel Curtain to have one really good air time moment, and 3 of the inversions I really enjoyed. I didn't realize the ending took a minute from the break run to the station. Unpopular opinion, but I like Steel Curtain better than Phantom's Revenge. This is for two main reasons.
One, the cars/seats. Though Phantom's Revenge has those legendary lapbars, which I do like, the thing that has soured the experience for me my last few rides has been the size of the seat, specifically the distance from the back of my seat to the back of the seat in front of me. If I don't push my lapbar down far enough, I'll slide forward and smash my knees on the back of the seat in front of me, which can be quite painful. I can somewhat remedy this by essentially stapling myself so that I don't slide forward, or by sitting in the front of a car, but its kind of stupid that I have to take these things into account on Phantom and can't just enjoy the ride. On Steel Curtain, you don't have to worry about that at all. The seats are much more open, and are separated further between each other, making knee banging a non-issue.
Two, the layout. While Phantom's Revenge definitely has Steel Curtain beat in terms of ejector airtime, there really isn't much else to the ride, with the exception of speed. Steel Curtain is a much more well-rounded coaster, and does several things Phantom's Revenge doesn't do. It has hang time, good positives, whip, several inversions, etc. It even has airtime moments, albeit less intense than Phantom's. Overall, its just the more complete package.

    • @thepuncakian2024
      @thepuncakian2024 3 роки тому

@@bmfanboy8838 I think the airtime moments are intense, but they aren't as sustained or intense as the ejector moments on El Toro or Skyrush. I think in order for Phantom's Revenge to be a truly elite ride, its airtime moments would need to need to be able to stand on their own, but they really don't in my opinion and it needs something else to complement them.

I enjoyed this review. I'd agree that Steel Curtain isn't as Phantom's Revenge, yet it's also better than some very old wooden coasters, one of which is decent. My only other issue is that whist it reaches a height of over 200' the drop doesn't. Nothing personal: for me Steel Curtain isn't a hyper coaster, but Phantom's Revenge is (and while I may talk out of my ass re personal experience:) Phantom's Revenge has a 220' drop whereas Steel Curtain doesn't even have a 200' drop.

If it is called Steel Curtain, does that mean the supports are called ‘Curtain Rods?’
Joking aside, a new coaster had been in the works for well over a decade, with the original concept being a terrain coaster that would’ve utilized the shed at the bottom of the ravine (the plans of which can still be found online). When Steel Curtain was unveiled, it went completely out-of-bounds to what I and other former employees had expected.
As for its reception, local opinion is mixed. Some still lament the Log Jammer’s removal while others embrace the coaster while-heartedly. While I tend to lean toward the latter camp, I wonder if the Log Jammer still would exist had the original design been utilized.

Actually, the most loops of any coaster in ALL of the Americas. I know, a difference without a distinction, but sounds more impressive. 😉

More parks should install rides themed to local sports franchises. I've often wondered how much SFOT could accomplish if they collaborated with the Cowboys and Jerry Jones' endless bags of money. Especially since the stadium is literally 4 blocks away.

Its So Weird To Think This Park Holds The Inversion Record For The USA And Not Another Park Like Magic Mountain Cedar Point Or Hershey park

Kennywood isn't afraid to go big. Phantom originally opened with the biggest drop. And I think Pitt Fall may have been the tallest drop tower at one point if I remember correctly.

I heard that this ride has a bit of downtime. I don't see how though. It's not like it has a lot of components compared to Top Thrill Dragster or Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. It's basically just another coaster with a chain lift hill and breaks at the end.

    🎢 I took the front 💺 seats
And My Good Lord !!!😲😬😩🫣THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST FORCEFUL AND FASTEST COASTERS I’VE BEEN ON- it was Super sunny and it was going soo fast I could not catch my breath- it was non stop speed and loop twisting and turning - Its not for the faint or anything to be played with- This Coaster is the truth and nothing but-so help me God - because your gonna need it 😇🎯❤️💪🏽

But it killed the Sky Coaster :( I cannot forgive it for that.
It's built too close for the sky coaster to be safely ridden, so they basically just shut it down. Hopefully it gets sold and not demolished but ughhh, it's so unfortunate. Sky coaster is my favorite thing in the park, hands down.

Weirdest support structure ever. I agree, it is kind of ugly. It almost fits a helmet facemask look. S&S does the... most random and "fuck it lets just brace it here and there and be done" look to their support structures. These inversions are really taller than Top Thrill Dragsters vertical heartline roll?

@@CanobieCoaster Oh yeah, right. That's stupid though. It's a non inverting inversion then, haha.

Honestly I would love to do a Browns take over where Browns fans just take up the entire train and we ride!

That lift hill would kill me… an agonizing minute to the top. Builds tons of tension. That’s on purpose. But no thanks.
Ride looks far more disorientating than most would probably anticipate. You’re not recovered before being assaulted with more punches to the equilibrium. I’d ride it, but only ride before I left.
