I myself also use shorts, but I take previews from my full length videos, and use those to draw in subscribers and it really does work, I simply just match the shorts with my content.

UA-cam shorts has been my go to to gain subs as a new channel, they get 10x the views my reg vids get

So glad you posted an updated video for this but I still can't adjust the volume for my added sounds. I followed along but I don't get the "volume option or the voice over option
Great outline, amazing work. One question I notice some of my shorts don't seem to go out to the public due to it being held back. Sometimes it shows a link icon other times it has a copyright claim to it even though it's self created content
Thanks for the great video Justin, very helpful. I have a question. I notice a lot of shorts have the entire text of the script showing/playing along as you watch the video. Did the person who made the short add this to their video or is there some way to to turn this captioning on when you upload your short, or how else is it done? Or should you even worry about it?
I was a bit dubious about Shorts but I am going to give the format another go in 2023. During my last experiment (2021) I found I got wildly differing views, even with videos of similar content. One video might get 20 views, the next would get 1500! My aim now is to achieve better integration with and drive traffic to my long form videos. Thank you for this informative video.

@@ericrathjens8847 No, and my return to Shorts has been just as confusing as my first attempt to use the format. In the last week I have had one short reach nearly 5000 views and another 1300 views while others have barely made it past double figures (and a few don't even reach 100 views). Given the content is 'similar', there is no obvious reason why some hit the mark and some don't. I've also learned that whatever you get in the first 24 hours is about as good as it gets; you don't get much in the way of additional views beyond 24 hours regardless of how many views were achieved in the first 24 hours.
Great video. I'm not seeing the Voice Over and Volume buttons on my phone, though. So, I can't adjust the volume of added music at all. Do you know how to fix that?
Posting shorts absolutely draws in subscribers! Most of mine have been from international audiences but I am experimenting with the times to see what works best for local audiences!

Hello! Do you know how I can find out if the views I’m having on my channel actually count towards the 10M views I need to monetise? I’m just afraid that because I’m uploading the videos with the sound already edited in (rather than choosing from the UA-cam library) that they won’t be eligible and will be copyrighted
It's my understanding that views on shorts aren't added to the total views.

They have to be in 9:16 or 1:1 size and don't hit the "instant premiere" button. None of your shorter videos are in the shorts feed.

It's not a "short" it's a "short regular video". Go to the video section of this channel and scroll down a bit and you'll see that his shorts have a red S in the corner. Look at the URL when posting i.e. this video from Justin Brown ua-cam.com/users/shortsmMmIdLun1OY Compare to your video URL ua-cam.com/video/Y2IXTemQvYg/v-deo.html Not being counted as a short so not in the feed being promoted at all as one. I use 1:1 format and had one short glitch out because I hit the "instant premiere button" so it turned into a "regular" video.

I actually have a question, Justin. A lot of UA-cam channels say you should time your video uploads to when your audience is typically online. But I've noticed shorts can sometimes sit there for days or longer, and then suddenly take off. Does it matter when you upload shorts? I've been trying to schedule mine but I wonder if I should just upload them whenever they're done, rather than trying to time things just right.
I have had the same experience but I noticed that it's all a matter of luck. Sometimes you have to re-upload the same video if it does not pick up views. But first you need to post different content before reposting. Also be careful not to post so much or the algorithm thinks you are spam. It's all balancing, experimenting and luck. Good Luck,
If you can time it, good, if not it’s honestly not a big deal long term for your videos
Timing is very important to me. If I post when my audience is awake. I can lots of likes. The same video posted another time. Nothing much.
I did an experiment to see if #shorts and long versions linked. There not. I first uploaded a 6 minute long version. After an hour got 9 views. Posted a #short of the long version with 'Unstoppable' 15 second music. After an hour the short got 10 views then exploded to over 1,700 views in the second hour and +5 subscribers. I put a link to the #short to the Long. In the period the #short exploded, the Long version got 1 view. Even after 12 hours Long only 3 views. Is UA-cam going to work on an algorithm to link #shorts to Long versions?
I noticed the same thing and I sense that it's intentional on UA-cam's part.
yeah youtube should have it where you can link your long video on a short by a swipe.
I enjoy it because it's so much faster and when it lands well with my audience it's GREAT! Another great video Justin - your program is amazing and the calls have been invaluable to my YT success.

I kind of wish there weren't multiple short shelf tiers as I call them. Sometimes I get put on a "top" shelf and got up to 9K views on one. Other times, a low or medium shelf and only get 100-400 views. And of course, the dreaded little to no view shelf. It all seems very random. Definitely not based on average view duration because they are all 100% or more AVD (as I make very short shorts). Sometimes I get picked up minutes after posting, sometimes 6 hours later. It has been good for obtaining subs quicker, but the downside is that they are shown to a wide range of people that aren't my target audience, so the dislikes come pouring in, which I assume helps kill the shelf time for the video. I've also had a couple shorts get picked up more than once to the shelf, but it's rare. Probably only 2 or 3 videos out of about 50 did that. Guess I'll be experimenting more...

Hi, Justin. Thanks for all the videos! You have taught me so much! I am a brand new channel and am having a problem with my shorts that I can not figure out. All seems to be well on desktop, but when I view my shorts on my iPhone, they are very small (black border on all sides) and are extremely blurry. It is only happening on mobile devices, and it is only MY shorts. I can see everyone else''s shorts in full screen. My shorts are filmed on iPhone 13, 9:16, 4K. Any help you can offer to resolve this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Not wishing to be critical but in my case, I wanted to create a short from a pre-existing video and no, it isn't easy. The easy bit is creating a short from your phone camera. So 1/10 as regards answering more difficult aspects of creating shorts. 10/10 for stating the obvious.

I have been happily experimenting with TikTok, Insta Reels, and UA-cam Shorts. At first, I was not too fond of Shorts because I got far better results on the other platforms. However, I have noticed a significant uptick in my UA-cam results. I am now exploring how to create better short-form videos on this platform - natively and using repurposed content from TikTok and Instagram. Let's see what happens next...😎

I think this is the best tutorial on Shorts I have seen on UA-cam. Well Done, great job!! I've just started my channel and look forward to more tutorials like this. One question I do have is how you add the subscribe button on shorts (the rectangular one that goes next to your channel name)

5.54 sound and adjust are not available in my app. is that due to the devise configuration or the version of the application. of is the feature available in the different tabs in the different versions of the application.

Great video! Question: When you upload a short through UA-cam Studio, is there a way to add the music or an audio that you saved from another creator?

Thank you Justin. In the section where you talk about uploading from desk top, you just saved it as a regular, private video. Is it from that uploaded regular format video that you create the format 'shorts?'
I had same Q. That's the exact same thing as uploading a normal vid. Where does it get labelled a short ? He does not explain that. I watched several times thinking I missed it. Does YT automatically run it in shorts if 1 min or shorter? Vid was no value not answering that all important Q for desktop.
@@willbrink I saved it as private, then on mobile, I went to that video, clicked on remix/create short underneath it, and then set to public, when I was done editing. Live and learn...
Is there a way to delete a small segment out of your short if it isn’t the last clip you filmed??? I see that you can trim the clips but I want to delete some without starting over completely.
I notice some shorts perform great in-app but when you view them on a web browser (on mobile), they diminish in quality and look far-away/smaller. Is there a way to prevent this?

Hi, interested in adding my own edited video. Following your instructions (13.28) you mentioned adding my clips after 'create' but the app tells me 'No videos yet. Record a video to get started'. How to I input videos into this section? It doesn't give me an option to upload videos from my phone.
